This is where the flooring meets the door. The dark wood is the flooring in the lighter. What is our deck?

We had our flooring installed back in 2021 and it was a parent that they hired local installers as the laborers. Fast forward to 2023, and we have to have our patio door replaced. The installer from Lowe's found a bunch of water damage behind the door frame where I have been installed improperly. The big problem was the flooring next to the patio door. It had rotted and was molding and we didn't know it. The installer said it takes years for that to get to this level of disrepair. And in his opinion, the flooring installers had seen this problem, and had chose to ignore it, and finished installing over this mess. According to the door installer, there is no way that level of degradation had occurred in just two years. So, if you're going to hire, Empire insist that they don't hire local labor or make sure you were there every step of the way standing over them or you would not be faced with the same problems we are. And when I called Empire about this I was told oh that is so sad but it's out of warranty so we're not gonna be able to help you out.

Not a great first impression, I was stood up on my initial consultation and estimate. I made my appointment a week ago and no one showed up!

The installation team was also very informative as the installation was being done and they had me check their progress, etc.

After all, our primary bedroom, two offices, a guest room and favorite TV nook had alot if twists, turns, and closets. While shopping at Bell's I learned their installers were able to shift furniture to allow them to do a great instalation with minimum inconvenience. The results are great! The job looks like seamless wall to wall carpet, even with our crazy floor plan. The installers were very professional, in very way and we have enjoyed the new carpet a pleasure from day one.

The pre-sales consult was good, installers were competent and careful, and the was flooring product was high-quality. The reason the company didn't score top marks was their botched internal communication and execution. We spoke at length with several company representatives and clearly explained our desire to have the squeaks fixed before the carpet was installed. Bell's assured us this would be done, and even said they had a staff specialist who would fix the problems with screws prior to carpet installation. The specialist never arrived. The installers came on the day of our appointment. When we complained to them and asked about the specialist, they spent an hour or so randomly putting down screws before laying the new flooring. Later when we called Bell's they sent an outside consultant. He pulled up the carpet to put in more screws, but couldn't fix the worst of the squeaks, which are now ours to live with.

Since then, we've run into multiple problems, and honestly, it's been incredibly frustrating. Problem 1: Promised One Thing, Got Another We chose a more expensive floor than we originally planned because we were told it had a flush stair cap trim piece. That was important to us because we wanted a seamless, flush transition at the top of the stairs -- no overlap. The flush pieces were on our order and we paid for them. But when the installers showed up, they used an L-shaped piece that created a noticeable lip. When we asked about it, they told us a flush piece didn't actually exist for that floor. So basically, we paid more based on bad information, and there's nothing they could (or would) do to fix it once the floor was already being installed. Problem 2: Boards With Permanent Marker Some of the boards that were installed have purple marker lines under the clear coating. We were told it happened during manufacturing and couldn't be cleaned. The installers admitted they should have caught it and not used those planks. They offered us a few hundred dollars off or said they could replace them, but doing so would require ripping up a large section of flooring, which could cause more damage. They planned to reuse the removed boards, even if they were damaged in the process. Since there wasn't enough extra material to replace them all we'd have to pay for additional boards ourselves if we didn't want them to reuse what they ripped out. We decided not to risk it, covered those boards with furniture and rugs, and took the discount. Problem 3: Gaps in the Hallway In the hallway, 4 boards were cut too short. So now, when the humidity changes, they shift, leaving a 1/2" gap between the floor and the shoe molding, exposing the subfloor. That's about two feet of wall with subfloor showing for half the year. They tried to fix it by gluing and nailing the boards down, but that only worked temporarily. Again, the solution offered was to tear up a big section of the floor, but with the usual warning that it might cause more damage. So once again, we left it alone. Looking back, we probably should have taken the risk of further damage and let them replace those 4 boards. It looks awful. Problem 4: Boards Separating in the Bonus Room In our large bonus room, about 20'x24', some of the boards have started separating, leaving visible gaps. At this point, I haven't even contacted them about this issue, based on how the other problems were handled, I'm not optimistic that anything helpful will come from it. So this one is on me. This year, when we replaced the floor on the main level, we went with a completely different company. When we showed them photos of the upstairs install, they were shocked and told us we should have filed formal complaints and probably could have taken it even further. Honestly, the whole process took so much time, stress, and energy that we just didn't have it in us to keep pushing. If you're considering working with them, be careful, make sure you can actually get what they promise, and keep a close eye on the installation. After reading other reviews, I'm really hoping this was just a bad install crew and that they're no longer around.
