Fantastic Pre-Season Soccer in Palm Desert - - - - - - - - February, 2026 Visit We visited Palm Desert to see our St. Louis CITY Soccer Club (SC) play Austin in pre-season MLS soccer at the Coachella Valley Invitational Tournament, and we had a GREAT TIME!! The Coachella Valley Invitational Tournament is pre-season soccer for men (MLS) and women (NWSL), played at the Empire Polo Club in February each year. We have visited Palm Desert for many years, and have visited before and after the tournament the past couple years, but have missed attending; thankfully schedules aligned this year. After watching previous games on YouTube, this year we got to be there in person! The tournament's site offers some challenges on finding General Admission tickets; after some time we found that the Los Angeles Galaxy (LAG) were managing the tickets; a quick call with Miguel, who was very helpful, and we soon had our tickets in the app ready to be there for the soccer. Thanks, Miguel!! Parking for soccer was easy to find based on the online map and following the signs. For food, under the semi-permanent tent they have food trucks and an open bar. Here is little shade on the fields; some palm trees in the corners offer a place to cool off; otherwise if the skies are clear, the Palm Desert sun will provide copious doses of Vitamin D to lift your spirits. DJ Alf Alpha provided dance tubes all day and there were various soccer skills for fans to participate in. Even when the weather is not as nice as it was for us, this is still a great facility, with low humidity. Fun fact... the Salton Sea is the second lowest point in the US, after Badwater Basin / Death Valley; if I calculated correctly, the Empire Polo Club elevation is 5-20 feet. The Polo Club is a big and varied place. They do actually have polo fields there. AND, they also have other areas. Today I was there for the soccer invitationals. I've been for others things. The dog show, for instance. It's a nice outdoor space. There are areas that are very rich in foliage and give plenty of shade. The staff has always been nice and helpful, from the parking people to the security and cashiers, I've never have anyone be ambivalent. Food is, well, epic expensive. If you plan to spend $30 on food and $10 on drinks, you can get by. Beer was not outrageous though, which was a surprise. I definitely recommend going. Parking has always been easy. Some events it's free parking, others it costs, so plan ahead. read more

Last night we visited the Magic Lights venue here. Pricing is by the vehicle load...so heck....make it a "limo ride". On the grounds for the Polo matches, Coachella and Stagecoach...this venue is seasonal and nicely done! Come celebrate a light show extravaganza set to music ( fill your car with loved ones and friends, tune in on your radio, roll down your windows, and have your holiday spirit and camera ready...set ...GO!±¹ ] We had fun making the loop. At the end there are food trucks, snacks and most importantly a photo op with Santa and your guests! *It IS a. it pricy so checking that before you head up but "less expensive" if you FILL your vehicle. read more

Came here for Coachella, had artist passes so really got to explore the club grounds and loved it. My favorite area was the lake area. Very nice and comfy lots of benches and ducks . Today was a beautiful day to experience the Beyond Van Gogh exhibit. I chose to come on a Thursday because I didn't want to catch the weekend crowds which ended up to be perfect. Parking was easy, I parked front row. It opened at 10am and I got there early but I was literally fourth in line. It was nice because they had a beer & wine stand and lots of tables if you just wanted to hang out outside. It was too hot unfortunately so I just went right in. The first room you go thru is one with lots of information about the life of Vincent Van Gogh. It was interesting and I loved the empty frames hanging through each row you walk thru. That was cool and artsy. The next room is one with stars, dark & small. It lead to another bigger room which was one huge canvas with videos of his art. I felt a sense of peace in that room. His art pieces were impressive. They also had a gift shop. I wish they had a room with actual frames & replicas of his art at least because I felt like I wanted to see more but it was a cool experience. I spent about an hour and a half there but you can finish this in way less time. I just didn't wanna leave! read more

I've been coming to this beautiful establishment for 6 years now for the Sandstorm lacrosse tournament. The facilities are always so well maintained. The grass on the main polo field is perfect, I don't know how they keep it in such great shape with the horse hoofs and the mallet divots, you can't even tell they use it for pollo. 95% of the time, the weather has been perfect but of course, it's Indio/Coachella. They seem to have the parking and crowed control figured out, other than a few more porta pots strategically placed would be beneficial. read more

Note: This review is only based upon the Beyond Van Gogh exhibit hosted at Empire Polo Club. First off, tickets are on the pricey side. I have done Beyond Renoir/Monet/Chagall overseas and it was literally half the price. What I saw before, was hosted in a completely blacked out indoors area which immerses you completely into the art. Sadly, the Beyond Van Gogh exhibit here is hosted in a circus tent, which has screens up on the sides for the projections, but has an open ceiling. To make matters worse, there are still lights on behind the projection screens and on the ceiling, so the colors of the projections are gravely diminished, and you can't help but focus on the metal framing that keeps the tent standing. The projection show itself is amazing and we stayed for two full circulations to really appreciate it. All of the staff members were very friendly during our time there too. But sadly, you just can't help but feel that you don't get what you pay for because there is too much surrounding light that undermines the effect the show is supposed to have. PS: The bar they had outside of the tent has exorbitant prices, but the bartender Alex is an absolute gem, so he made it worth it. read more

I went to Coachella at the Empire Polo Club. The Empire Polo Grounds is a large area of dirt and desert. Coachella made the dessert area more entertaining with many areas for relaxing, food, and entertainment. There were many art pieces scattered throughout the festival. These sculptures are giant ranging from a giant rainbow building to two dogs made of flowers and greens. The entire festival is very photo worthy. There is a giant Ferris wheel as well. There are many American Express opportunities around the festival. There are multiple merchandise opportunities as well. The festival includes music and well with many stages and a line up of artists at each stage. If you want to see a particular artist be sure to stake a spot. The productions are so well done at each stage. There are also EDM music options. I will definitely be going for both StageCoach and Coachella. read more

I've only been here for one event, Power Trip in October of 2023. This venue is HUGE and as a result has the venue issues that come with that much territory. Pros: The venue can easily host any concert event like those it regularly does such as Coachella and Stagecoach and both Desert and Power Trip shows. Huge open spaces with a huge main stage. There are a lot of places to get a drink or a bite to eat although as described further below, can be limited or not great. Endless possibilities with what spaces they want to use and for what such as art installations which enhance the overall experience. Low mowed grass that is comfortable to walk and sit on is everywhere (think polo club grass...). Plenty of lemonade, spiked or not. Multiples free hydration stations to fill hydro flasks or wet towels, etc. (tasted like unfiltered tap water but it's better than nothing). The venue is rather secure by nature. Cons: Necessary locations such as ride share point, parking, shuttles on the outer area spread out so far you walk your tail off while there and almost need to hire a rickshaw to save your feet. Ride share is roughly 2.5 mile walk from the "yellow path" gates, none of the employees were able to use the map to show me or draw directions to save me time. I had to ask the rickshaw drivers where to go and eventually hired one to get us to the ride share point. DO THAT IF NECESSARY! Parking isn't exactly close or easy to get in or out of. Shuttles are your best option, read that again. There are still plenty of steps for this portion as well but some of this is due to the scale of the venue. The portable bathroom situation is unacceptably disgusting and left several people nearby gagging. You name it, it was there. There is one permanent bathroom structure which was better than the portables everywhere else. The stage is cool, pit area is best for viewing the bands and not necessarily the screens. It's HOT down there due to body heat and the lighting so be prepared. The sound is far better in the pit than anywhere else with some echoing of the main stage (at least at PT). There does seem to be plenty of space for multiple stages as the annual events both have. They food options didn't appear very appealing and the drink options were very limited unless you went to a pop up bar. Non alcoholic drinks were basically coffee and lemonade. There are a very limited number of merch booths regardless of the event leading to ridiculous lines. The locker thing is a joke and I recommend getting there as soon as the venue opens for lockers and merch. Very little shade but they have a mister area to help cool you down. Despite the low grass throughout the venue, the dust can be a bit much and leaves you blowing black boogies later on if you're in the pit where the grass is rather worn and thin. Employees were rude, uninterested and unhelpful. There were few people collecting trash the first night during the show. There were no lights in the common areas between bands and it was really, really dark. Security is either: a) not paying attention or b) overreacting including putting their hands on people. We ate fries and various flavored lemonades only as folks were reportedly getting sick while we were there. We were tempted to try the some of the food stands but the reports on the Facebook group kept us away and eating locally before and after the event, but the illnesses might've been something that happened only at that particular event. Most of the food didn't really appear all that appetizing, though. Bottom line for me, get info beforehand and ask as many people for their firsthand experiences with the venue and whatever show you're going to see. We had maps and still needed help and we're not old or unable to read maps so some friends who can help you make sense of the scale etc. would make a huge difference in your walking distances and sense of direction. It was a little rough the first night but the venue did what they could to address things like the lighting and sound as the event went along. read more

Getting there: I've only ever been here for Coachella, and every time I've transported here I've taken a shuttle. I know there is plenty of parking in different areas of the field. Experience: My first few years of attending Coachella in 2015 & 2016, the whole field wasn't being used which made the festival pretty cramed. I believe in 2017 they opened up the back space because they added another indoor folk stage and the Antarctic exhibit. I love this venue. Very spacious and there are enough room for the stages that the sounds don't clash. read more

Whenever possible, my wife and I have been coming here every Sunday over the past four years for polo and tailgating. Unfortunately, that tradition came crashing to an end on the Sunday before last, when Empire instituted a new rule that states "no grilling or cooking." This new rule is terribly disappointing, and, in my opinion, short-sighted. We didn't say much a couple of years ago when they doubled the price of admission from $10/car to $20/car -- but this new rule is too much, and will keep us away. "Grilling or cooking" is a fairly integral part of tailgating, and so, without that, it's really just picnicking. I'm going to miss the times we shared with old friends, as well as making new friends, but we can't bring ourselves to pay $20 for access to a picnic spot. I guess we'll have to start a new tradition on Sunday of inviting friends over to our backyard for some grilling and croquet. So long, Empire Polo Club. read more

If have been to many a "drive thru" light events at Christmas time but this one was something else!!! We were looking forward to another awesome polo season at Empire Polo Club. We planned on playing in the 8 goal for the 2022 season and to our surprise, the club leased out the facilities and will no longer be a polo venue. This is a sad day for all of us in the sport. Empire has beautifully manicured grounds and really knows how to take care of spectators and players alike. This was a legendary polo venue on the West Coast and it has now come to a bitter end. The Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, hosts the yearly Coachella music and arts festival. I'd never been here until Weekend 1 of Coachella 2018 last week. Wow, what a great space for such a massive event. It's quite spacious and the ground is relatively flat, which is perfect for a festival of this caliber. The weather was sunny during the day, and became quite cold at night. Pack a cardigan! Most of the land featured green grass. By the end of the weekend, though, there seemed to be more sand than grass. There was also more and more wind as the weekend went on, and I read in the news that the wind persisted throughout the week and is still affecting Coachella during its current Weekend 2 run. Not ideal for the attendees, but not something that Coachella or the Empire Polo Club can control. This place is meant to serve as a heavenly little oasis within a dry desert. Unfortunately, I know the winds were so bad that a lot of people became congested and/or had their camping tents stripped away from them. Wear a bandana or a medical mask at all times when you're here. Constantly having to blow out black snot is not good. My nose bled several times in the four days I was here. Would I come again? Hmm, I might. I think my Coachella experience will be a once-in-a-lifetime memory, so I'm not sure what else would attract me to this place. read more

I went yesterday to see the Van Gogh exhibit here and my experience was disappointing the way the set up the show. This Art exhibit production needs a indoor building to able to bring the perfect dramatic show for the public. I was very disappointed to see this exhibit in circus tarp and not Indoor building, diminished effect feeling inside the paintings and the vividly colors . Having open ceiling were you see the structure doesn't help for this great piece of Art show. I f you go to see this show I highly recommend to see it indoor building to enjoy the beautiful show. read more

I went to the event at the day and time I purchased tickets for October 15, 2022, at 4:30. It was raining/ flash flooding on the freeway and when we arrived the event, it was closed. They said they had to turn off the electricity due to water damage at 2:00 pm. First, it would have been nice if they had sent an email notification to save the trouble of getting out in the bad weather. More upsetting, they would not refund only allowing you reschedule. I could not make another date. If any concert or venture cancels a performance, they would issue a refund. That is the right thing to do. I would give a minus -10 for customer service. This is unfair and unjust. Horrible! Do not do business with these people. I am a senior and do not have money to throw away. read more

I went here for the Desert Oasis Music Festival. I had heard a lot about the grounds since it hosts the well-known Coachella Music Festival, Stagecoach Country Music Festival and others. Very impressed by the beauty of the grounds with abundant green grass and plenty of places to sit back, relax and kick your heels up. There is a large pond with lily pads, fish and beautiful sculptures. There's even a tiki bar fully decked out in full tiki room style, attached to and overlooking the beautiful pond. There are animal sculptures and lion statues which all add to the soothing experience of being in a tropical Paradise Oasis set in the desert. read more

Outstanding Venue & Space For Music Festivals SITREP I have been to a couple of different music events here at the Empire Polo Club, the one that is most notable is the Coachella Music Festival. The other was a Blue Grass event. In both instances of these respective categories of events, the Empire Polo Club has proved to be a excellent venue. DISPARITY Those comparing my Coachella Music Festival Review with this review will note that I give the venue a higher rating (4-Stars for Coachella Music Festival vs. 5-Stars for Empire Polo Club). That is because this venue works diligently with the local community in providing the necessary logistic support to manage the traffic in and out of the venue as well as ameliorate the parking situations. What goes on INSIDE the venue during the event, is entirely up to the promoters of that event. Hence, when I feel the promoters of the event our gouging the concert goers on necessities such as water, that has nothing to do with the venue. THE LOWDOWN Empire Polo Club runs a smart and excellent operation that hosts some pretty amazing music events and festivals. read more

This place is beautiful. I was out here with my daughter for the 2014 USA Field Hockey Festival and was really impressed with the beautiful views...I've never seen a Polo match, but I bet watching one here would be amazing. I was very happy with the way most of the did were prepared for field hockey, but it WAS too long on a number of fields...still very well maintained, just a little too long. Parking wasn't great for an event as large as this, but I've been to worse venues...and I did always find a spot. Food hete was just ok, and too expensive...as expected. It wasn't a perfect venue for this event, especially since it's 3000 miles from the east coast, where the majority of field hockey is played. However, the location was large enough for this event and the breathtaking views made the shortcomings seem unimportant. read more

Went there for the BIG 4 concert and was pleasantly surprised by the facility. I'm from Hawaii, and there's NOTHING like it here. The concert venue area was surrounded by hedges and tall palm trees with lush, green grass in the HUGE stage area that consisted of concessions, tented dining areas, and even a cool ferris wheel (though I don't know if it was permanent or what else was by it) We had VIP tickets and it was worth every penny...er, dollar. The VIP "tent" (food/drink/lounge/restroom) area was very nice and clean with a modern canopy, fountain, and lots of seating areas around planters. The lounge area was especially cool with couches, large "ottomans", and coffee tables. Good food offerings (stone oven flatbread pizza was ono -Hawaiian for yummy!), but DISAPPOINTING beer choices (Coors light or Blue Moon) AND price -$9 for a 12 oz??? YIKES!! Restrooms (port-a-potties) were a little far from the stage -over 100 yards, but quite ample and reasonably clean. The stage area was lower than the VIP area, so you could stand in the VIP area and still have a pretty good view of the stage, and was park-like allowing comfortable standing, sitting, or prostrating. The VIP "pit" was a good size and offered an excellent view of the stage, although, probably due to wear and tear, was mostly dirt. My gripes about the VIP "pit" are: A) There was no direct, exclusive access to and from the VIP "tent" therefore making it a b*tch to go to the restroom or get a drink. And B) It was quite a distance from the VIP "tent" making it a b*tch to go to the restroom or get a drink. The (dirt) VIP parking lot was quite a distance from the entrance (at least a quarter mile,) and probably could've been closer, as we had to cross a grass field that was between the lot and the venue. Overall, it was visually beautiful and well appointed, thus offering a nice ambiance and, ultimately, an awesome concert experience. Note: I gave the venue a 4/5 because of the parking and the access from the VIP tent to the pit although I don't know if it was the fault of the venue or not. read more

I had tickets to the Van Gogh exhibit. Due to the weather it was closed. I didn't find out until after driving 45 minutes to get there. I can't reschedule because it was the only day I could go. Customer service was difficult to reach. When I finally spoke to someone they said I had to send an email to request a refund. We came here for a lacrosse tournament that bought out the entire venue. The place is massive(!) and absolutely beautiful maintained. All of the staff--both the lacrosse and grounds staff--were so nice and helpful. My favorite place is the Tack Room Tavern on the grounds. They were incredibly swamped and yet way out of their way to make sure we were well cared for. A hint: somehow get a bike. The grounds are around two square miles, and it's a looong walk anywhere. read more

Been riding horses for years, and finally went to my first polo match! Had a lovely time, everyone was accommodating and helpful. Posting for GA was $20, but we hadn't packed our own food, so went for VIP, $25 cover charge per person. The grounds were gorgeous, we wondered and took pictures for 30 minutes! We sat to watch the game, ordered drinks and lunch. Food came out in plastic carry-out containers which was a little "eh" but must just be the way they do it?! Nestled in the Coachella Valley and completely surrounded by mountains, the Empire Polo Club is literally a glorious oasis in a vast and intimidating desert. It's the home of the legendary Coachella Music Festival, and hosted Phish's 4-day Festival 8 extravaganza last October, which is when I got a chance to visit here. The enormous main-stage area was flanked by dozens of concession tents vending everything from spinach knishes to craft beers from all over the USA. Prices weren't dead cheap, but neither were they offensively gouging. The grounds themselves are expansive -- I didn't explore the camping area, but the main-stag site easily accommodated the 40,000+ fans who came to see their favorite band. The grass was also lovely -- no dusty, muddy field here. Bathrooms, as I recall, were in only one centralized location, at the extreme rear of the venue behind the main bar tent. They were a host of port-a-potties set up in a rectangle, and there was never a wait and the things were shockingly clean by festival standards. Overall, this was the swankiest, ritziest, cleanest and most comfortable festival venue I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. The tickets to the multi-day show were expensive, and I understood why the first minute I set foot in the venue. read more

I think it's a great place to go in Indio, California and that's where some festivals can be held which include Coachella and Stagecoach. My mom and I haven't been there before. And I know what kind of clothes we wanna wear to both Coachella and Stagecoach. And it can be a fun place to go. read more

I lived in a van on the grounds as part of the Desert Trip festival (weekend two). And this is by far the best music/festival venue I have ever experienced. From the incredible staff to the efficient organization and of course the sound system, but most of all, to the breathtaking views. Surrounded by various mountain ranges, encompassing amazing sunsets, growing the tallest palms and beneath the bluest skies, it's magical. The dust certainly takes some adjusting/prep work, but you're in the desert, so what do you expect? The venue played perfect host for everything I could have needed to survive and thrive for four days. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to see this place.
