After about a year of thinking "I should try this" I finally ordered some pizza. The Margherita is one of the best I've ever had. Full Stop. The Chrizo crunch is surprisingly tasty and I'm thrilled I tried it despite my inner voice that questioned. It is a true GEM! I can't wait to return, and plan to be trying the Banana pudding dessert and the seasoned fries. It will be hard though. I'm a true pizza fan, and with pizza this good - it's hard to not order a couple and look forward to take home leftovers. The Food: A Major Letdown I grabbed a pint and sat down, and while the QR code made ordering easy, the meal itself was a bummer. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich with a side of Waffle Fries. Including tip, it cost around $26--definitely "Meh Value" for what I actually got. The Sandwich: The chicken was pounded thin before frying, reminiscent of a schnitzel, but it was completely flavorless. There wasn't much sauce, and there was a very off-putting taste in either the breading or the sauce--something cinnamony or like nutmeg that just didn't belong. I had to force it down just to recover from my run and not waste the money. Also, the menu said their sandwiches and burgers were made on pretzel buns. This one was served on a regular bun. The Fries: The waffle fries were actually the highlight. They were seasoned well and came with ketchup, though I wish they offered other dipping sauces. Vibe & Service The service was Good at least it was quick and efficient thanks to the QR system. The space is nice and clean of course it's likely Santa Monica Brew Works' space, but I'll allow it--oh and being able to pair the food with a brew from next door is a great concept. I saw some people eating the pizza nearby and it looked decent, but the sandwich experience left such a literal gnarly taste in my mouth that I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

Came to grab some drinks at Santa Monica Brew Works, and Emma Squared Pizza is connected with them. Easy to order food and have it brought out to your table. We were with a large group so ordered a bunch of different pizzas and appetizers to share. First off, deep dish pizza is always delicious. Very hard to go wrong, and they did the pizza so right. They have such a wide selection, and I wish I remembered the name of what we ordered. But there was a hot honey one that was delicious as well as an incredible mushroom one and, of course, the classic pepperoni. Plus they vegan pizzas, which are also great for people who can't have dairy. Their fries and chopped Italian salad were also the big winners. The big downside is the price - definitely more expensive at about 25-30/pizza. So just something to be aware of if you order. Overall, though, delicious pizza that goes perfectly with a fresh beer at the neighboring brewery. read more

I recently met up with a friend at Santa Monica Brew Works and we decided to try Emmy's Squares Pizza. Each of us tried a different type, I had the MVP (which was not bad). The service was fast and they bring it out to your table if you use the QR code to order, the ambiance isn't bad, but it's chilly if you sit outside these days! The pizza had a nice flavor to it, I always love a good mixture of marinara and vodka sauce, especially with a pesto drizzle - so it's not surprising. However, at about $25 per personal pizza (only way they sell it) it's really not worth it at all. I don't think this is a bad choice if you're craving pizza and already at Santa Monica Brew Works, otherwise I would try one of the other amazing pizza spots on the Westside or elsewhere in LA. I first enjoyed this place when I was in NYC. Loved the burger. The pizza looked great so I told myself it was worth a return when next in New York. Turns out I didn't need to wait when I realized there is an LA location. I love the setup so I can enjoy a good pie and brew at once. Ordering at the brewery was easy. The pizzas were pretty good, and I especially liked the Colony pizza as the spicy from the jalapeño paired with the sweetness from the honey was a good combination. Because the pizza is square shaped, there's not a whole lot of crust, but I thought the dough was soft and chewy, and the toppings were fresh. The pizza here is undoubtedly fantastic. I didn't realize they were deep dish, which I am not usually a fan of (go thin crust!), but this was truly stellar. All the ingredients were on point, even the sauces (coriander ranch, anyone?) were pretty tasty. My only gripe is that there is an 18% service charge automatically added to your order. The way I feel about this business model is the same way I feel about hidden hotel "amenity fees" or cell phone "service fees", it sucks. As a customer, I'd prefer that the restaurant simply increased the prices so I know how much I'm paying. Nonetheless, the food was good. It is hard to find good Detroit style/Sicilian pizza in LA. Emmy Squared does a good job for LA standards. While a bit small and a little overpriced for what you get. Pizza is a little smaller than a standard sheet of paper. Crust was nice and crunchy but the center of the pizza was a little too moist, which I think it is due to the crushed tomatoes on top. The middle should have been more fluffy. If you have had Golden Boy in San Francisco then you know what I mean. Definitely will try some of their other pizzas. read more

The pizzas start at $18 and come with 6 slices. They can easily feed 2 people each since the slices are pretty thick and filling. It's super tasty and great quality pizza for anyone who likes a thicker pan crust. An 18% service fee is included but that's basically just the tip. We ordered pick up late on a Sunday afternoon. It was about 4:30 when we came to get it and the place was busy. We ordered The Colony pizza, cheese garlic sticks and the Brussels sprouts salad. The Colony pizza is their signature pizza with red sauce, honey, jalapeños, and pepperoni. It's always one of our favorites but admittedly does feel like a fast food pizza. The cheesy garlic sticks and the Brussels sprouts salad were both good. The garlic sticks came with a carton of pesto sauce. These sticks were tasty but not something you could eat a lot of.
