First visit to Emmetts the Studio on 2/14/17, left having absolutely ZERO complaints! Naieem Abdool, was my stylist & was absolutely amazing every step of the way. Even with the terribly, not very well decribed description of what I wanted & expected. Well... He definitely got my hair the way I wanted!! Exactly how I wanted it to look esp my bangs. IMO, I got results & a experience! I was talked thru every step of the way BEFORE he started anything, not after it was too late. Overall, everything about the time spent there went above & beyond expectations. Employees that worked shifts during my appt seemed genuinly happy to be there even on a holiday. I was impressed by the fact that both salon owners were there as well and involved with clients, watching/training employees, etc. Emmett's the Salon definitely screams dedication! While being a very comfortable environment, I was treated like a long time customer, not like the 1st appointment that it really was. Last, they even had chocolate covered strawberries for VDay & they shared!! I put in a great deal of research to find Emmett and Naieem. I wasn't looking for a good stylist. I was looking for one of the BEST. I found Naieem. My hair was embarrassing. The color was horrid; the hair itself was severely damaged. I was convinced my only option was to cut most of it. "No, not true," Naieem said. The gentleman bolstered me in a matter of minutes. He had a plan. I knew my in-depth research had been successful. I'm unable to recall the plan specifics. Naieem is more of a Picasso, not paint by numbers. After the color turned out marvelously it was time for the harsh haircut. No. My hair was healthier. My ends were not hay, they were silky smooth. I only needed a little cut from my hair. Naieem's talent overflows. I doubt my hair has ever looked or felt better. I cannot imagine going anywhere else in the future. I want to share a couple of things I feel are significant. DOUGLAS SAVED MY HAIR! I came from another salon, from which I received (in my opinion) a very bad balayage/ombré. I'd been seeing the same stylist for over a year, not really knowing who else I'd be able to trust with my hair. She had always done an "ok" job cutting or coloring my hair. It was never quite exactly what I was asking for. Up until this point, I hadn't really had anyone I regularly went to see since I have moved so many times in the past 6 years. But with the last balayage/ombré visit, there's absolutely no way I would return to my old stylist. My hair was unevenly dyed, and ultimately fried. Douglas transformed me back to normal. I truly felt like I would walk out of Emmetts feeling like myself again. And that's exactly the result I got. The atmosphere of the entire salon is #1, fabulous. #2, I've never had a stylist make me feel like every single hair on my head mattered. Douglas gave me a cut that really suits my personality. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted when I showed up, but after showing him a few pictures he was able to quickly understand what styles I Iiked and envisioned something that turned out great. The stylist messaged me regarding my review... 7 months later. Here is the summary, with quoted statements: 1. "I'm sorry I ran late Unfortunately things happen that are out of my control we did try to call you but your voicemail was not working." (Not true, I've had the same phone for the last year and my VM is never full.) 2. "you were running late as yourself as well" (I was 5 minutes late, as opposed to your 50+ minutes late. Really, buddy??!) 3. "I don't think you were waiting the time that you did" (Are we really going to go there...? How would he even know that? I was there, he was NOT. I absolutely most certainly did wait the 50 minutes. I needed a haircut BAD, so I was definitely willing to wait, but after THAT long, I needed to do my other errands on my day off.) 4. "please edit the review or please remove it from the site" (Okay, I will happily edit it for you. I'll even do it a timely manner despite you offering me no reparative action and seeming to blame me and my voicemail for your lack of customer service.) This place really needs some work in customer service and professionalism. So I've been trying to find a new place to get my hair cut somewhat nearby but i had been unsuccessful at finding one that i felt great with...until NOW. Not only did i find a great salon but its 2 blocks away! how cool. i guess that also shows how much attention i pay since they have been there for years and i never noticed. They are nestled into the last spot in the building that holds The Jazz Kitchen & Yats. They are on the north side of the building and furthest east, facing the fresh market. The interior of the shop is beautiful. Very bright and simple (a minimalistic feel) with flowers and plants. No big obnoxious chairs with a million of tools and products out at each station. Very simple modern chars with bare counter tops. I think i recall 5 stations and 3 shampoo spots. The staff was very friendly and all seemed to be very happy to be there. They were all very organized and seemed to mesh well with each other. Emmett was there, had a constant smile on his face and offered some sweets to me. He also made sure to thank me for coming in which was nice to hear. Tom cut my hair and he is a very nice guy who did a great job. He didn't treat me as most stylists do with men "cut and go". He took just as much time washing my hair, went over and over scrutinizing his cuts and spent a good time styling my hair and explaining how and what to do. i joked with him and asked if he was getting me ready for prom! he did a really great job! it was cold as crap outside that day but there was no way i was going to put something over my head and mess up that style he did! I know a guys haircut isn't complicated but he did a wonderful job. I cant vouch for a women's cut or coloring and styling and what not but if you look at all these reviews and research Emmett and Naieem(CEO) they are impressive! They also have a haircare line that i haven't tried yet but am going to look into (all natural and organic) Emmetts Haircare I will definitely be coming back here in the future and recommend it to everyone. read more

Like many people, I let my hair go during the pandemic. For about 14 months. During that time, I moved away from my previous salon, so I hunted for a new one closer to home. The reviews didn't lie. Not only did Emmett do a great job, but it was a really fun experience. Lots of personality and a great environment. Price is a little steep for me for a men's cut, so I probably won't be able to go here every time, but I'm pretty sure this is the best cut I've ever had. And my hair is difficult because it's pretty thin on top. Emmett studied the growth patterns and cut it in a way that the thinning isn't as obvious. It looks really good. It will definitely be my pick for times when I need to look my best, or just want to treat myself. If he can make my thinning hair look this good, I can only imagine what he can do with a full head of hair to work with. Highly recommended. Emmett's studio is posh and I always love going. I usually have my hair styled by Naeem and he does a great job. The other stylists also have beautiful, happy clients when I'm watching from the next chair. The price is always way more than I want to spend (like, a lot more) so I don't go as often as I should, but the result is spot on every time. I had very high hopes for Emmetts based on previous Yelp reviews. Plus, I live in the neighborhood, so I REALLY wanted it to work out, wanted to love it. It pains me to say I really did not have a good experience and got a bad, bad haircut to boot. I will say the atmosphere of the studio and attitude of everyone who works there are amazing! But when it comes down to it, a low quality haircut from a high quality establishment is very upsetting. It all started with me using a Groupon. I called to schedule my appointment. They said the lady who was taking the Groupons was no longer there but that they would honor it, and we made an appointment. A week later they called me to say they had to change the appointment because now I had to see a different person (Thom) but unfortunately, he was out of town, and now I had to delay my haircut by yet another week to a day that I had very little time to squeeze one in. Ok, fine, and I really needed a haircut:-( I arrived 5 minutes early and ended up waiting almost a half hour! I was in such a rush by the end I didn't have time to size up the haircut. Now it is 2 weeks later, and I HATE my hair. It's close to the worst haircut I have gotten, on par with the quick trim you get a Great Clips when they just wet your hair. Specifically, my hair feels coarse, stringy, and tangly at the ends and has no shape. It doesn't fall nicely or have that just-cut smoothness. Sorry guys, I really wanted it to go better. Now I have to get another haircut because my hair is driving me nuts and I can't wear it down. UPDATE 6/10/2015. I just wanted to note, I have tried a million different things, and this was 100% the worst haircut I ever had. I have never had a haircut make my hair TANGLIER and actually looking worse than before I got it. The atmosphere is friendly & you are made to feel at home no matter who you are or how you look, or how much you own. I've 'never' had a bad cut or felt rushed. The to the minute prompt in & out might not fit. This is not a sports cut barber. If you're flexible, a little loose, or retired, etc., definitely acceptable. --Sometimes you might be asked to change your appointment, and sometimes you might have to wait a 1/2 hr or more for the stylist to finish with others, and sometimes you might arrive for your appointment after lunch finding the salon closed until the lunch hour is over. Hands down, probably the best experience I've ever had at a hairdressers. The minute I walked in the door I felt comfortable and at ease. I chose Thom based on the reviews I had read and he was great ! I noticed the other hairdressers customers and they were turning out some really beautiful work as well. For the first time somebody actually listened to what I was saying about what I wanted, agreed it was a good choice for my hair type ( instead of trying to sell me a Balayage something else that didn't really suit me) and executed it brilliantly. Not only was the color job wonderful, Thom is the first hairdresser to actually style my hair the way I would. My hair is very fine and can't hold a curl but Thom taught me a trick to give my hair more bounce and volume. I called to schedule an appointment for a quick trim and Emmett's was able to get me in that same day. The receptionist was extremely accommodating and very friendly. I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment and waited approximately 30 minutes. Although I had to wait longer than expected, there were plenty of magazines and jewelry (for sale!) to keep me busy. The stylist, Thom, was absolutely amazing! He was SO friendly and did an amazing job cutting my hair. I've had quite a few haircuts that haven't turned out so great because "curly" hair isn't easy to cut, but Thom did an amazing job working with the texture of my hair. He cut my hair dry which surprised me because I've never had a dry cut before, but it turned out wonderfully. He was well trained and I could tell he'd had a lot of experience working with my type of hair. The wash was amazing as well; he gave me a head message that was to die for and the shampoo smell great! I ended up paying around $55 for the cut/wash and walked out a happy camper. As someone who has had a difficult time finding a permanent stylist since moving to Indy almost 5 years ago, I think I finally found a salon yesterday afternoon that I will be returning to. I called over to the salon at about 11:15AM, and I was told that they had availability at noon. I jumped at the appointment. When I arrived, I was kindly greated by all of the stylists even though they were all finishing up appointments. I went into the salon with hair down to my lower back. It had become unmanageably long. After talking to Thom about the look I wanted, he described what he would do to achieve the look. I have fine, soft hair, but a lot of it, so he told me he would cut off quite a bit of the length and add soft layers. And he did just that. He then styled my hair so that I had the most beautiful beachy waves. I walked out of the salon feeling like a million dollars. I love the new look. It is still long, but it feels so fresh and light. Especially considering the quality of this studio, the prices are reasonable and competitive. Moreover, from the minute I walked into the salon, I felt extremely welcomed by the staff. Thom was especially wonderful. I enjoyed getting to chat with him. Needless to say, I will be coming back to this salon to see Thom in the future. read more

Ok I'm just going to let you know--Naieem and Emmett and Douglas and Thom are geniuses but also artists. This is the only place I have ever gone for hair that has made me feel not only like part of a family but utterly impressed and delighted with my complete look by the end of the appointment. I have gone anywhere from mousy brown to very dark to platinum blonde and Naieem has taken painstaking care of me and my hair throughout the process. I mean it when I say that he is seriously probably the most talented colorist in the Midwest and can intuit the tiny nuance of a color you fantasize about with just a glance at a photo or a vague description. He knows what will look phenomenal on you and directs you to make the best choice for who you are. I love this team so much and especially Naieem because he's so damn hilarious and charming. I encountered several stylists that only cared about the money and less about the quality of my hair. I received a perm after a dye job in my teenage years which FRIED my hair for years. I was absolutely heart broken because I was young and did not understand what you can/cannot do to hair. I depend upon the stylists' advice. I felt taken advantage of and had to live with terrible hair until my 20s. Once my normal growth was almost back, my mom scheduled an apt at this salon for my birthday. I was really worried at first because I did not have anything professionally done to my hair since the perm. However, I agreed to go after looking up Emmett's online. Once I walked in the doors, I was greeted by the staff and felt at home. They were phenomenal and treated me like they have known me for years. Naieem was my stylist and did a color/cut. I have a very dry/curly texture that typically stuns other stylists, but he cut it flawlessly. He also thinned my hair with a razor, which helped my curls to stay untangled. I also received Emmett's shampoo and repair conditioner which brought my hair back to life. Seriously, my hair has never felt/looked this good. I appreciate Naieem and the staff for informing me about their products, what dye they were using, and how how to manage my hair. I will only have my hair done by them.
