I had never in any lifetime heard of this bar but I guess it must be relatively newish on the les side. We were invited to a birthday party over the holidays. Honestly, I don't mind the place. They have an air hockey game in the back room, interesting posters on the wall. Emma Peel is apparently a character from the 1960's British Avengers series (not the comic book). It has a homey dive vibe to it. Ended up on non-happy hour hours and the drinks were around $9ish for a beer which I guess is typical these days. But they did have both Left hand milk stout (which is a superior stout in my opinion) and Abita Purple Haze (which is another superior beer that has lite notes of raspberries). Their regular happy hour doesn't sound too shabby with it being until 7pm (with the exception of Saturday) and only $6 wells, $6 Narragansett, and $6 house wine. Yes, I noticed the triple 6s.

Inside. Just a bar, no frivolous decorations.

Great dive bar on the lower east side. It has all the vibes of a decent cheap pub. Mitchell, the bartender was very friendly and helpful.

Refreshing!

Great place. Came for the Emma Peel theme and had a few drinks. We really love the original Avengers TV show and Diana Rigg in general. What a classy lady she was and a great namesake for this bar. We took a look out back where there is outdoor covered seating with a cool Emma Peel motif. There is also seating out front where we ended up enjoying our drinks. The staff was friendly and this place has a cool vibe in a very busy neighborhood. Great place to try when in the area!

Really cute bar on the LES. The servers are nice and drinks are great. They also have a shuffleboard inside which always makes it fun.

Best bar in nyc! Happiness is a warm gun! And Matthew is the bullet. If you're here you know, if you aren't you don't.

I'd rate Grove Street Social three and a half stars…read more Cozy bar in the West Village. Few beers on draft. Handful of wines. Pretty decent whiskey selection, but they were pricey. One of the prices that came to mind was Redbreast 12 for $20 for a pour. I settled on Bitburger which was $10. Service was quick. You're certainly paying for the location as the bar situated amongst many clubs and events spaces.

It ended up being a nice spot for a casual catch-up, though with a few mixed impressions. The space itself is cute and very much feels like a neighborhood bar. One of the things we liked most was that they have games available--we ended up playing Scrabble while waiting for our friend to arrive, which made the time go by quickly and added to the relaxed vibe. Happy hour prices are solid, and the fried pickles we shared were decent. I also had a watermelon cocktail that was refreshing and perfectly fine, if not particularly memorable. Service was a bit inconsistent. The bartender wasn't very warm or welcoming to us initially, though that changed once our friend--who is a regular--arrived. Overall, it's a comfortable spot to meet friends and hang out for a few hours, especially on a weekday like Thursday. That said, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, but I can see why it works well as a local neighborhood hang.

The ambiance is immaculate. We were able to snag the last Hokkaido soft serve for the day, definitely worth the hype! It is not sweet, but very refreshing, creamy and smooth.

The only table they had was available for only 45 minutes, so we accepted the challenge. It helped that we already reviewed the menu ahead of time. We got a super small round table in Guzzle. Chairs were low and short, so it was hard to position my legs comfortably. I got the Yuzu Mugurita which was a delicious shochu cocktail. My friend got the Spicy Paloma as a mocktail - it had a very strong kick! For food, we got the Bikini, supposedly the world's thinnest sandwich. It was probably one of the best bites we had on this trip. Highly recommend! For the BW Chicken, we each got a black glove to use in our non-dominant hand to hold the chicken, while the other hand cut it with scissors. The scissors were big but flimsy. The chicken was great on its own as well as dipped in the white sauce. We also tried the Hokkaido Soft Serve - the milk is imported from Japan, and the level of creaminess is truly unmatched. There was an option to add caviar, but we did not. Both our meal and the vibes were 10/10. Our server also checked with the hostess to see if the next reservation had checked in yet so they could give us extra time. We only needed it because my friend went to the bathroom downstairs, and there was a long wait for the single bathroom. All in all, I would definitely go back!

Daily they have a pianist rotation along with bar staff who have voices of angels. Service at Duplex is always superb, table or at the bar. I assure you though, once you enter the doors of Duplex - you will want a table. You're immersed into the musical beauty of the city, you're reminded of Broadway dreams and Empire State miracles. Duplex gets better the more you open yourself to the social happenings around you. Share a drink, take some shots, sing a song in front of strangers. Keep in mind your tab will get pricey, but that is what you'll have to be willing to pay. Though you need not be inebriated to enjoy Duplex, I've done it multiple times and have had a great experience either way. At Duplex you see first hand what the city has to offer, all you have to do is embrace it.

Since we had such a great time, we stopped in on the next night, and it was a massive disappointment. Shitty attitude from the bartender. (Not sure if there were 2 bartenders with the attitude, or just one terrible bartender and a friend hanging out with him doing nothing but distracting him.) Either way, the bar was not crowded yet and he straight up ignored us. For a while. We left. Drinks are made with the cheapest of booze and served in plastic cups. Based on the quality, the prices are high, even for the neighborhood. Despite the drinks and despite the crappy service on the second visit, we will likely come back the next time we're in town in hopes of finding a bartender who understands the job. It's near other stuff we like, and the music and vibes were that good on the first night. And if it sucks again, there's like a thousand other places in walking distance.
