We scheduled a two day move. The movers were 45 minutes late picking up our household. The next day they were 3 1/2 hours late delivering to our new home. As soon as they dropped off our items we were asked to sign off and pay which we did. A few days later when we got our TV hooked up to Direct TV we found out it was fried. There was actually a small warp in the face and the picture what nothing but vertical lines. I found the receipt for the 65" LG Smart TV and sent Emerald Moving a copy. They said I could get the same TV for $199 at Walmart. That is totally a lie, they even said they confirmed this at Video Only where we bought the TV. I also called Video Only and they told me that same TV if they had it would cost at least $1200 today. They sent me a check for $100. Completely unacceptable!!! Total rip off and the movers assured me my TV would be fine in their truck. I was going to have them load it in my car but they said the truck is no problem. I will never deal with this company again or refer anyone to these rip off artists. read more

We were getting a new carpet installed and the installer said they did not touch pianos, so we found Emerald on line and had them move and store our grand in their climate controlled store room for about a month then bring it back. The lady we communicated with on the phone was very friendly and accommodating, the two different three man crews were also very friendly, very careful, and very competent. The piano came back with no damage of any kind, and played as well as ever. These folks are professionals. Price was not cut-rate but was worth it. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

Another move to a larger home (this time) by Emerald. They provided us with a personal estimate coming in right on target for a (28000 sf.) 4 bedroom 3 bath home. This was a hard move, involving a piano, kiln and other backbreaking items. They showed up on time with adequate manpower and got the job done on time/on budget, taking care and not damaging a single thing. Emerald managed to squeeze me into their schedule mid-August after another local moving company "lost" record of my move. They partially packed and moved me. Everything was done quickly and with extreme care. Royce, the lead in both the packing and moving, was one of the most careful movers I've ever dealt with, in addition to being an incredibly polite and professional person. We've used several moving companies in Eugene for various cross-town moves, and Emerald was by far the best. After a brief (and very pleasant) phone conversation about the details of the move, I was given an estimate and information about how the cost was figured, what extra time would cost me, etc. The estimate was totally accurate. What I wasn't expecting was how careful the guys would be to wrap our furniture--that has not been my experience with other local companies--and we had zero damage. Even though it was a really hot day and we had appliances and a heavy tool chest to move, the guys were fast and super efficient. And also very friendly and professional. Let's start by saying I work for a company who relocates employees all the time. This is not our first rodeo in this arena. Emerald Moving is hard to describe as they gave my employee a really low quote. This quote is a not binding or "not to exceed" means they can jack up the price at the time of delivery. I have called Emerald Moving 5 times now to speak with Jon Giffin about this but only get an answering machine. I have left 3 messages for them to please call me back 5 days later no contact. Our experience with Emerald Moving consisted of one mishap after another. Taken individually, they could be seen as part of the expected turmoil related to moving, but when viewed as a collection, they indicated a pattern of poor management and dubious business practices. We feel most duped by the owner who stood in our kitchen and basically said: 'we're going to make this easy for you.' Since he never returned any of my numerous written and verbal requests to discuss the our complaints, what follows is an open letter to him and a strong warning to anyone considering using Emerald Moving. Under NO circumstances would we recommend using them, there are other options in town we wish we would have taken advantage of. Dear Owner, I would have gladly given the following criticism had you decided to return my calls, but since you didn't, I've decided to take you up on your request to "leave a review on Yelp after your move." Thanks for the good idea! We find it terribly dishonest that you promised extra guys to help unpack at our destination. I had personally explained to you that unpacking day had to occur on a tight timeline. I had to return to Eugene that afternoon to work and was wiling to pay for extra movers. When I arrived at our destination, only 2 unpackers were standing there. When I asked them where the others were...they laughed at me. They said there was never a plan for "extra" help. Did they ever tell you that I personally spent SEVEN hours helping them unload? They actually thanked ME for helping THEM. Just so you know, I didn't help to be friendly, I did it because you left me in a bind. Thanks. We also think it was poor form on your part to conveniently NOT MENTION the 3% surcharge for using a credit card when sitting in our kitchen personally going over the details of the move. I didn't learn about it until standing on the curb at my destination when presented with the bill. How do you leave out that information out in an age when people pay for everything with a credit card, especially very expensive moving costs? Frankly, your foreman didn't seem too comfortable with the task--I imagine I'm not the first one to have been ruffled by that little "surprise." By the way, did your staff ever forward you the picture I sent of a box containing home theater equipment just thrown in there? Did they mention we think that same mover also almost let our two indoor-only cats run out the front door? This was despite a huge sign asking them to stay out of the cat room. The sign was so big and so clear that your foreman later commented (his words, not mine), "I learned today that one of my guys doesn't really read English that well." Our damaged goods claim. You could have handled it better. For example, if your staff tells us they'll respond by the end of the day, they might want to do it. Or at least by the next day. Or the day after that. Instead, we continually had to call/email only to be told OVER AND OVER AGAIN "we'll get right back to you." This went on for almost a month. Honestly, the value of the items wasn't that much and we submitted the claim mainly because we paid ~$500 for 'extra' insurance. Our thought proces: we paid for insurance, a few things were damaged during the move, might as well submit a claim. Had you or your office actually communicated more effectively, we would have accepted your decision (whatever it was) and moved on. The fact that our requests for a decision or information about the process were continually ignored (or put off) is what fueled our persistence. Ironically the ONLY time your office actually contacted us on their own was the day we filed a dispute of charges with our credit card company. This was based on your failure to address the damage caused by your team during the move. Ultimately, you won that battle on a technicality. Good for you...but was it at the expense of your integrity? In conclusion, I know much of what I report here is a version of "he said, she said". But at the end of the day, had you actually cared enough to provide good, honest customer service, much of this could have been avoided. The fact that you personally came to our home to book the move, yet could never find the time to help manage our complaints---over the period of a month---indicates to us that you simply didn't care once you had our money. So in good faith, we CANNOT recommend your moving company; our experience with you only added to the stress and chaos of one of life's major events. Thank you for your attention. read more

I would NOT recommend this company!! We had a small office moved with 3 desks, boxes, and a bookshelf. They broke two out of the three desks. These were sturdy desk! They also made scratch/ dents in my hardwood floors. When dealing with management we were stood up on our appointment to look at the damaged desk and they refuse to make any compensation. My brief experience with Emerald has stopped me from using them right at the beginning. My appointment was scheduled for 10:00 am. At 9:40 I get a call from the driver that he is running late and will be there at 10:30. When he still hadn't arrived at 10:40 I called the office. They said they will call the driver and get back with me. After ten minutes still no word. So, I called again. The receptionist said she hasn't been able to reach the driver yet. She did not apologize or offer any other solution. I decided that I would not use this company based on my experience with them. If they don't show for a quote on time, would they be on time for the move???? Very questionable!!! And customer service leaves much to wish for! read more

I wish we could give negative stars on this one. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND USING EMERALD MOVING. I have not owned a yelp account until now, but my experience over the past month forced me to open one so I can share my story. We recently moved from Eugene, Oregon to Austin, Texas. A long move. These guys came recommended by some friends, and we generally like to support local businesses so we went with Emerald. Everything was mostly good for the pick-up. However, once they had our stuff things went downhill fast. Before pickup, we were "guaranteed" that our furniture and boxes would be delivered between 8-18 days. Apparently a "guarantee" that the lady we were talking to in Emerald's office was not supposed to make. As it was, after they picked everything up and we started driving to Texas, the movers informed us our stuff would be delivered on the 18th day (but even this was not communicated to us until the 14th day). We called the office regularly for updates but kept getting "we'll call you back" or the "driver will call you" and nobody would ever call us back. My wife and I are both working professionals and cleared our schedules for day 18 (Tuesday). I'm taking off time from my new job, waiting at our empty house, for our belongings to arrive, and it wasn't until 1:00 PM when I got a call from the driver saying he would be delivering our belongings on Thursday. WTF?! Horrible communication (with the clients and apparently within the company). Don't get me wrong, coming 20 days out and coming on Thursday instead of Tuesday is not the end of the world; however, it was the complete utter lack of communication that was so frustrating. Things didn't get better once our belongings arrived. Several pieces were broken (including a glass top to an old antique dresser, which we paid extra for them to wrap). Other items are just missing. Two of our rugs just "disappeared." Somehow all of our rugs didn't even make it on on the "outgoing inventory" but we were not informed of this until the two went missing. These were expensive rugs, as well as expensive non-VOC rug pads. They have no explanation for their whereabouts. They also did not check off the items upon drop-off. They were rushed and trying to get out of town, so their ability to properly inventory people's belongings is not a priority. I realize that moving is stressful and a difficult task for any company. Some companies can do it well and others can't. (We have a good reference to point too, as less than a year ago we moved to Eugene from across the country...all of our stuff was in-tact and they told us the day they would deliver weeks in advance). Ideally, the movers can communicate well and not break/lose your belongings. This was NOT our experience with Emerald. read more

The guys who came out and did the actual work were courteous and helpful. The problems lie with management and poor customer service. They were late, very late. Every time I called I was told they were "on their way!" It takes two hours to drive across Eugene? Nope. Also frustrated that they did not tell me about 3% credit card fee up front. I have used Emerald twice --they are terrific. I have a grand piano, and when I made a local move four years ago, my piano technician recommended them because of their expertise with pianos. They did a beautiful job. This summer, I hired them move me to a condo on the top floor of a high rise building across the country. I was as happy this time as the first, and they handled the particular challenges of this much more complicated move with professionalism, skill and good humor. All of my possessions, including my piano, arrived in perfect condition. Jon and Brad, who packed and loaded me, were there to unload me, and went the extra mile to make sure I was happy with where they placed the piano and other heavy items. They even connected my AV components. I especially appreciated their upbeat energy. Moving is stressful, and it makes a world of difference to work with a team you trust to treat your possessions, and you, with care and respect. read more

Ive had the same experience as others who have used this company for storage. Management is inaccessible and terrible at record keeping, billing, communication and competency in storing goods. I recently picked up my contents that have been in two storage pods for about 7 years. It took months to get them to allow me access - finally just threatened and said I was coming. They had done the packing of the pods. My two expensive leather sofas were ruined. The sofa had been stored in the bottom of the pod with much piled on top. No moving blankets were used on it or the loveseat piled on top - seat to seat with no storage barrier. Both were covered with some kind of mildew. They tried to clean the leather with water and refused to accept responsibility for their inadequate packing. I was given storage rate for the issue (60 cents per pound, their assessment, $90). Tow ruined sofas after paying faithfully for over 7 years. Stay away!! read more

I had the worst experience with this company. I should have backed out of using this company but I had run out of time to start over looking for another company to move me. I called them for an estimate and they stated they would call me back. When they didn't call me back I called them back. They then got my address and phone number wrong. They didn't show up to do the estimate and I had to call them back. Due to the lateness in the day....they had to come yet another day for the estimate. They finally came a couple days later on a Friday and I told them I would call on Monday to confirm. I called on Monday and they stated that someone would call me back. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday -- Finally I get in touch with someone who knows very little more. My move was scheduled for Saturday. So on Thursday I get the confirmation. They arrive on Saturday. I asked them if they could lock up and drop the key at the office and they stated "Oh yes, no problem, yes I can do that." I left to get to my destination. They totally destroyed a shelving unit, and left my vacuum and some other things behind. They did not drop the key. I was charged $150 for that by the apartment management,. Emerald did pay to replace the shelving unit, my new vacuum and the other small things left behind. The movers that brought my things nearly a week later..(I only moved 5 hours away)..One young boy was very courteous but the other gentleman was grumpy and when I called Emerald to complain about the missing things this gentleman got verbally and visibly upset about it. Emerald knew about the shelving unit for over a week but didn't call me or tell the two gentlemen moving the stuff in about it. They weren't aware of the other things left behind and they had to call the apartment management to confirm. The grumpy mover then asked if he could us my bathroom and I could hear him in there complaining to himself out loud about how it wasn't his fault what the packing guys did and how it wasn't his problem and he'd better not get in trouble for it etc...As I unpack things I am finding things broken. I had opted to not buy the insurance they provide at an extra charge. MY BAD. I have moved myself with a u-haul on numerous occasions and have never broken anything. I hired professionals this time because I'm alone and unable to move furniture by myself. This stressful move was made even more stressful by this moving company. I found them to be very unprofessional. I'm hoping that as I continue to unpack things that nothing more is broken. read more

Absolute WORST case scenario from beginning to end! Portrayed themselves as experienced safe movers, yet had absolutely NO clue WHATSOVER what they were doing. Went to wrong location TWICE before arriving, therefore VERY late - a big deal since we had to be out of our mall location before mall opening. They used the WRONG equipment, therefore it took twice as long, and greatly endangered the safety of their men! Our high security safe was unbelievably abused during the entire process! Bystanders at the mall were mortified upon watching the fiasco. Finally, they tried to bill me at twice the quoted rate ($1,275) to move the safe one block. That's the same rate we paid 6 months ago for having it "professionally" moved from out of state. Sorry to say, they are very convincing on the phone, but apparently not to be trusted. My formal complaint with full photo & video documentation will be heading to the DOT in the hopes that Emerald Movers will be stopped from endangering their employee's safety in the future.
