Obvious in this photo and throughout, I have more photos but app won't let me upload at the moment so I will add more.

I don't recommend using Emerald Landscaping. Andy and his crew were hired for a job for my backyard to install 3 pergolas and approximately 750 sqf of pavers. Everything went well until the end where they applied a sealer to the pavers. After they used rollers to apply the sealer (spraying the sealer is the way its supposed to be applied per multiple contracters I've spoken to since as well as RCP the stone dealer that the materials were purchased at)the end result was very hazy and patchy so we let him know a few days after the job was done. He said that it would fade away from the sun. This was in the end of December 2022/ January 2023. It then proceeded to rain significantly in San diego for 3 months off and on so we waited for it to be more sunny to see if it faded. It never faded so we reached backout to Andy to fix it, he sent a worker out on 2 occasions to try to fix but it didn't work. He and his wife even came out to take a look and his wife definitely noticed what I was talking about and I expressed to them I just wanted it fixed to be how it was supposed to be. So he tried to apply some chemicals to certain test areas to fix but that didn't work. He refuses to fix the botched sealer job without charging us"spilting the cost with him". He said that if a new sealer was applied that it shouldn't be that noticeable, this was mentioned a couple of times after the botched job was brought up. I do not and will never pay to fix someone else's mistake. After a phone call with Andy he played dumb and said he really didn't notice anything that bad and even went as far as making excuses that the finish may not have been from his work. We spent our hard earned money (over 30k) for this job and it would have been fine if they never applied the sealer incorrectly (Applying sealer wasn't even on the contract and Andy made it seem like he did something free as a benefit to us) now I'm looking for someone to fix the botched sealer job that Emerald did on the pavers and I'm not even sure if it will turn out ok and I possibly may have to replace 750sqf of pavers. Mistakes happen and that's something that happens but how you decide to fix those mistakes shows what kind of person/company you are. Me and my wife initially left a good review right when the work was done and left it up until we realized that the sun wasn't going to fade the work and Andy wouldn't fix it. Again I don't recommend using Emerald Landscaping because the owner Andy wants to charge me the customer to fix HIS mistake. I attached photos which are from from December though June. I use my middle name on yelp but first name is Owen, also I couldn't upload all the photos or videos but will when I can. I posted same review via Google with additional photos.

Andy came to look at my back hill, made some measurements and took pictures. His team created a digital image of what it could look like. His team was excellent and moved a LOT of boulders and rocks onto the hill to create a long dry riverbed, waterfall, several boulder retaining walls and a set of steps up the side of the hill. Andy's team did an excellent job and I highly recommend them.

    Before and after

Had them redo my back yard they did an amazing job. Great price and very friendly to work with.

Our backyard was in rough shape. There was crabgrass, mounds of dirt, rock, old 1980s patio block.... it was depressing. I met with Andy and got an estimate. He was a recommendation from my boss at work. After seeing the price, it was definitely fair compared to others. The fact that he took the time to come out and give me an estimate and come back again to refine that estimate after some changes speaks volumes. Too many companies wanted to just do things over the phone. The work that Andy and his crew was great. I have to say that I hawk eyed the project and it was the exciting part of my day to come home to the new changes. Andy was very receptive to answering questions and explaining things. I recommend that anyone who is putting a good amount of money into their property should keep up with the progress. If you don't like what you see, you got to let the man know. I found things that I didn't approve of and Andy was there to make it right. Thank you Emerald Landscaping for being patient with my changes, and for your great work. Here are some before and after. I'll update the photos again once I can get some things cleaned up from another project. Thank you Andy. Michael and Family

    Before

Contacted 6 companies, and only got back 3 quotes. Andy was by far the best priced. His quote was concise, well written, and listed line by line, so there were no surprises and everything was upfront. He did a complete remodel of our backyard. Installed a retaining wall, removed old concrete, poured new concrete. His team is very professional and very easy to work with. He's a small business owner and takes pride in a quality job. Any problems I had (you will on any job), were discussed and rectified on the spot. I highly recommend him. To the recently posted poor review, I wonder if the customer has the right company, and if so, was involved in the process. Her review is not indicative of our family's experience.

Emerald Landscape did a fantastic job on our back yard; waterfall, drainage, flagstone, hot tub concrete, etc. We had obtained 3 bids and they provided the most reasonable and detailed proposal. We had a few change orders for things that we increased but I would say they were very fair. They also made some small modifications and adjustments without charging. I would definitely hire them again. Also, when in the beginning they were the most responsive landscaper when I was calling for bids. Thank you!

We love our backyard upgrade. Andy and his crew were responsive to all questions and concerns and transformed our backyard for a very reasonable price. You can't ask for much more than the reality of your finished project matching the dream you had in your head -- and that's what we got.

Andrew H. came to my property on August 13, 2025, to give me a quote for installing pavers throughout my backyard. I explained very clearly that my number one requirement was correcting the slope so that rainwater would no longer flow toward my home. This was confirmed as a priority after multiple inspections from roof gutter companies and landscapers. I was scheduled to be out of town for five weeks, and I initially planned to wait until I got back. But Andrew assured me multiple times that they regularly work while homeowners are away, that everything would be monitored, and that I would return to a finished project done correctly in less than a week. Based on that reassurance, I agreed to let the project begin while I was gone. That decision turned into a nightmare. Project Problems From Day 1: Before work even began, I asked them to cover certain areas to prevent damage during concrete removal. 9/9/25: - Their vendor dropped pallets of pavers directly in front of my garage, completely blocking access. - The crew then said their wheelbarrows couldn't fit through the side gate because of how the AC unit was positioned. Andrew attempted to charge me $1,000 to move the AC the next day or $500 to do it on Saturday. - Andrew then insisted they could access the yard through my garage instead. I told him that was impossible due to the size of the wheelbarrows and the narrow door. He argued it would work and scheduled the job for September 13. Because of all this, I had to end my trip early, driving back from Northern California with my dogs on short notice. 9/12/25: When I checked my cameras, I saw the workers using the same wheelbarrows they said wouldn't fit and they did use the side gate anyway. When I got home, I saw: - My side gate pulled apart - My AC unit pushed up against the wall and held by a large rock None of this was discussed or approved. Andrew, who had been very present during the quote process, was nowhere to be found during the actual work. I ended up dealing with Jose (his manager?) instead. Even the lead worker, Eric, confirmed that the wheelbarrows never would have fit through the garage exactly what I had said from the beginning. And to make things worse, because their pallets blocked my garage, I couldn't have moved my car for 2 weeks. 9/17-18/25: - Rain water flows inside the garage because pavers were installed higher than door step. Their resolution was to put a a small circular drain in front of the door. 9/25/25: They "finished" the job, but the list of issues was long: - The side gate wouldn't open because they installed the pavers too high (they trimmed down the gate to resolve). - Polymeric sand was not installed correctly: it was patchy, missing in several areas. - My sliding door track was damaged from concrete debris and sand, even though I repeatedly asked them to cover it. - Worst of all: the paver grade was installed HIGHER than the threshold of my garage side door, exactly what I told them NOT to do. This means water gets trapped and pushed inside my garage; this was the entire problem I hired them to fix. The small drain did not do anything. It rained again from 11/15 - 11/21/25, and the water issues persist to this day. The most important part of the project and the reason I did it at all was not resolved. Andrew keeps mentioning that I need to have rain gutters installed, but I had them before and I know that it was not the issue. I had multiple vendors come out again for sanity check to tell me that gutters won't solve the drainage issue. From the misleading reassurances, to the damage to my property, to the poor workmanship, to the complete lack of accountability, this has been one of the worst contractor experiences I've ever had. I cannot recommend Rock N Block. I trusted them with an important project, and instead I'm left with new problems, unresolved issues, and property damage.
