Have things changed over the last quarter century? Absolutely. *Healthcare* has changed dramatically - not for the better in many regards - but OSM has weathered those changes far, far better than any other health care provider I have encountered or heard of. The occasional frustrations I encounter are symptomatic of the healthcare landscape, not of OSM or their professionals or staff. Does it take longer to get a reply than in the "good old days"? Sometimes. Longer wait for an appointment? Maybe...Have I ever encountered staff that seem like they're having a hard day? Sure... and I can totally relate. In my job it takes longer to get answers for people than it did "in the good old days", solutions aren't always ideal and sometimes I am having a day and am not 100%... More than ever, I have to be proactive in my care, and an active participant in my health and wellbeing; everyone at OSM consistently meets me more than halfway and continue to be excellent partners in helping me be well. Healthcare is a grind and frankly I don't know how Oak Street Medical serves so many community members as well as they do, but I am extremely grateful to have them in my corner.

However, there was a misunderstanding. I had severe headaches & dizziness, & both doctors suggested I get an MRI. I asked how to do this, bc I was new to Lane County, & both told me to go to ER to do so. And, I did. I thought I did the correct thing, but obviously, I made a big error. Hospital found a meningioma behind the right occipital lobe in my brain, with very slight brain bleed. It scared me. When I returned in a few days after the diagnosis, both Allergist & Primary Care fired me as a patient. I'd gone to see my Allergist, Kraig, & he was having issues w/home health w/his wife who was suffering from MS. He wasn't in a pleasant mood, & neither was his assistant, who made my visit a very sour one, as she was belligerent/ (this was around 2010). To this day, I don't understand what I did or didn't do. I felt so sad, bc I really liked my care @ Oak St. Medical! Above all, I loved both my doctors. I'd recommend them both to anyone, even though I was asked not to come back after my diagnosis.

My daughter had a long labor and the ladies here were all so caring, patient and helpful. After she gave birth, they took care of my daughter and baby to make sure everything was good and normal. As my brother's POA and representative I had to change his mailing address and after four months they still haven't managed it. The actual doctors and nurses and physical therapists? They did seem good, and I genuinely liked most of them. The hospital is in a nice location and we appreciated having sunlight and views. But the hospital is bad with communicating with each other and with us family members, bad with paperwork and legal bureaucracy, bad with computers. I watched my brother writhing in pain for 45 minutes while a nurse couldn't get the computer to allow the next dose of pain meds to come through. Eventually a pharmacy worker came up and they stood around the computer going, "Huh! That's interesting. Never seen that before." I had to file my power of attorney documents multiple times which is now described in the first paragraph of this review because it's gone on so long. "Maybe you should file it again with us in person," one guy said. I had already filed it, in person, at their front desk, and had the receipt for it. The real hands-on medical staff was focused on my brother's basic health needs to some degree, and I thank the medical professionals who saved his life. The hospital SYSTEM only cared about getting my brother out of his hospital bed as soon as possible, into some other kind of care facility, even though he'd caught a new bacterial infection while in their hospital.

In addition , it took me 2 months of getting ignored to finally get a response from them concerning it. Several years ago I went to Dr Woolhiser twice. After my experience with those two appointments, I had my concerns about the doctor's care. So years later after an MRI found a different medical issue in my brain I didn't want to go back to Dr Woolhiser. My primary care physician even gave me a referral to neurology at Sacred Heart at Riverbend that even said right on the referral "NOT DR WOOLHISER". I called to make an appointment only to learn from the receptionist I needed permission to go to a different doctor other then Dr. Woolhiser. I was advised the only way to be allowed a different doctor was to get permission from the neurology office manager, Cinnamon first. Thus I had the receptionist send a request for that permission. I was then told I should expect to hear back from the office manager sometime in the next week. Cinnamon never called back. Over the first month I left a number of voicemails for return calls and still never heard from Cinnamon. My primary care physician even tried contacting Cinnamon and still no return call to them either. Finally after that whole month of messages I called hospital administration itself about my inability to get a response. I then got the hospital to request for Cinnamon to contact me. Funnily enough the day after the hospital sent its request I finally get a return call, go figure. Ultimately it took me a month of voicemails and the hassle of contacting hospital administration to finally get a single call back from Cinnamon. At that time Cinnamon advised me that the receptionist had gave me partially wrong information and in addition to her permission I needed permission from the doctors as well to change. Cinnamon said the doctors were having a meeting later that day and she would talk to them then and call back the following day with the response. Of course, I never got that call back. After that I began to leave even more voicemails for Cinnamon Finally after two months, all those messages and talking to hospital administration the receptionist finally calls with a denied response to me. She said my ONLY option was to go back to Dr. Woolhiser, who I neither trusted nor liked. In those two months if I hadn't been ignored I could have already been receiving medical care elsewhere. It's ridiculous that it took me all that effort to get a final response as to my request for permission to see a different doctor. I even told them I'd happily take any one of all their numerous neurologists. All I cared about was that it wasn't Dr Woolhiser, who due to my experiences with, I flat refused to ever go back to. Due to those 2 appointments for a completely different issue with Dr Woolhiser years ago and him telling me quite rudely that he couldn't do anything for me, I was denied permission. After those 2 months and regardless of the numerous voicemails and requests I left, I was only able to get a return call twice from anyone at Riverbend's neurology department Basically, the neurology department, doctors and office manager, Cinnamon,,were forcing a patient to only be able to see a doctor they had 0 faith in, nor trust in their abilities. I think that is all absolutely wrong, nor does it provide good care to the patient. What ever happened to getting a second opinion, as that policy doesn't even allow for that either. Patient's need to be able to have confidence in their doctors! Not to mention it shouldn't have to take a person two months and lots of effort to even get a response. I found all of my experience absolutely ridiculous as no true care was even given by the neurology office manager and its doctors.

Excessive office visits + insurance billing for meds they know aren't covered = big revenue. I would not patronize this business. Billing and tacking on excessive charges is their priority. Without exception, Dr. Copperman is a great doctor and his nurses and front staff are always polite…read moreand efficient. I'm really surprised at the one star reviews saying Dr. Copperman doesn't care for his patients. I have found him to be one of the most supportive and caring doctors I have ever known, and I have been around 64 years. He keeps current on your conditions, follows them like a hawk and shares information with other appropriate providers in a timely manner. Our son had an infection that I considered not to be important. He experienced pain in his side. We took him in to see Dr. Copperman. Before he came in to the examination room, Dr. Copperman's head nurse saw our son and noted the emergency nature of our son's condition. Dr. Copperman came in quickly, examined our son and told us to go to the ER as soon as possible. He asked us which ER we wanted to go to and within minutes had all of our son's medical information as well as Dr. Copperman's diagnosis at the hospital, Just 15 minutes later, we arrived at the hospital (McKenzie Willamette) and were ushered in to a room, where my son was examined quickly by a doctor. They agreed with Dr. Copperman's diagnosis. Later that day, Dr. Copperman called us to ask how our son was doing, and he kept in touch with us throughout our son's treatment, ensuring that our son was receiving the best possible care In my opinion, this is the best kind of coordinated care and is something Dr. Copperman excels at. As another example, I get my medications through the VA. The medications are prescribed by Dr. Copperman. Because of him and his office staff and Dr. Stubbs at the VA clinic here in town, we have never had a glitch with the VA providing the medications we need in a timely manner. Our family has been seeing Dr. Copperman for nearly 30 years (we first went at the recommendation of one of his patients). Not only is he a caring doctor, he communicates well with us about what we need to do to improve a condition and what his treatments mean. He also answers any questions patiently, including some extensive questions at times that my wonderful wife asks. We have NEVER felt rushed in his or his nurses' care. Of course Dr. Copperman is a busy man as are his nurses, but in the daily scheme of things, he has never let us down. His other patients with whom I have spoken have unreservedly endorsed him and his staff. To a person, they have felt he provides the best care for them. This simply flies in the face of some of the other reviews on this site, which I simply do not understand. If his care were otherwise, you can bet I would provide a different review, but it's simply not the case. Again, I'm not sure of the basis of some of these reviews, but they fly in the face of my and my family's experience with Dr. Copperman's care and that of his staff. In good conscience, I couldn't let some of these reviews stand without providing our experience with Dr. Copperman, his nurses and his office staff. You won't be disappointed with his care.
