A fairly frequent customer for the past year or so, I've really enjoyed the products and services offered at Elysian Fields; I've had readings and brought friends in - the whole deal! Recently, however, I've noticed there's been a distinct change in energy at the store: the employees seem less jovial and I leave feeling less relaxed. I'm not sure whether it has to do with the recent shift in ownership or not but I think I'll be branching out for my metaphysical needs in the future. UPDATE (9/6/2018)- A Response to the Owner's Comment I believe other consumers can benefit from my response, which is why I have put it as an update in my original review. Hello there! I appreciate your response to my review. That being said- first and foremost, I am a little concerned that you know my last name, as Yelp only reveals the first letter of such. This must mean that you have looked me up on other social media sites and determined who I am based off of photos and other social media clues, which makes me feel a tad uneasy about my privacy as a consumer of your establishment. Perhaps others should be as well. As far as employees go, my experience was never with a single employee. As mentioned in my review, I was stating an overall negative ambience among all who were working during my visits. I was not properly greeted, nor did anyone have a smile on their face. It was simply different than I previously experienced in Elysian Fields. Additionally, I have been into the store a few times since March, simply not making any purchases. It seems to me as if you have looked up my purchase history in hope of making my Yelp review invalid, which simply isn't right. I have voiced my opinion on your establishment and it is truly how I feel. I apologize that you are not pleased with such, but I am hoping my experience can aid other customers in their metaphysical shopping decisions. NOT ABOUT THE ENERGY! ALL ABOUT CAPITALIZATION. I've been to many different metaphysical stores throughout my life and was looking forward to going to what is supposedly the best one in Sarasota. Try money hungry and non customer friendly. The prices here are insanely marked up. Employees follow you around like lost puppies. And I can't forget the condescending look I've gotten every time I see the owner, Tony. I recently found the greatest crystal store in Florida! Gails rock shop! I was so surprised to discover pieces of different crystals larger than that of Elysian Fields for only a small fraction of the price. They have terrible policies when it comes to returning items and have terrible morals. Employees at stores like this are seen to me as emotional guides but that just isn't present when it comes to this store. The more time they spend helping you. The more frustrated the owner gets that an employee was wasting time. Considering how well off this business is I know it's morally disgusting how they operate behind closed doors. These people want your money, not to help you. Thats been made incredibly evident to me through conversations with employees. The owner should be ashamed of himself and how strong his desire is to leech money from emotionally troubled people. I wouldn't recommend setting foot on their sidewalk :( read more

There is no question. Elysian Fields is probably the Greatest of the Great Metaphysical book shops anywhere. I come out of the store after browsing through the countless books, gifts, crystals, fine scents feeling like a new person. It's a very special place to visit. Every town should have one, there is no doubt. But we are fortunate to have this wonderful store here in Sarasota. Definitely make it a stop when in town. You won't regret it. Yikes I love purchasing these types of items however every time I shop in this store I feel like they think I am shoplifting. Salespeople follow you around. I would suggest to the management they just hang cameras where they don't feel so protective of their merchandise. Like drop cams everywhere? I have bought enough there where I have gotten many of their gift rewards for more items however often when I go there, I think I will not go back. The only metaphysical book store on the east coast of the US that I despise. This store is snobby, closed minded and truly the new age store that helps give the New age a bad name. This store is totally Pagan Wicca unfriendly !! LEvel of service is based on how you look and if you look like you have money. Save a trip you can find more spiritual spot next to your garbage dumpster. To be fair I have given this store 5 or six chances over the 14 years I lived in the area. Pagan unfriendly store, there main concern is $piritual enrichment of their wallet. If you don't look like money they will not bother with you. I will replete Pagan and Wicca unfriendly store. Tried to order a Wicca book from them once, the called me the next day saying the book was out of print and not available. I use to own a Pagan bookstore and consulted for others, so I knew which distributors they used for books. I called them up and they had 10 copies of the book. A Sarasota mecca for pretentious New Agers who embrace faux spirituality and love to dress up in Hindu garb and sport plastic bindis while chanting "Om Namah Shivaya." The mark up on the merchandise is beyond insane but Upper West Siders visiting SRQ will rave about it to their friends in NYC. Elysian Fields is the embodiment of the distorted, shallow and superficially charged Western interpretation of yoga. One visit is enough and I shall never return. read more

This place gave me the creeps. After overcoming the rude staff I had to use the restroom. I had to get a key from the clerk to use the toilet. What is this, a gas station? Yikes. I guess they have an overwhelming amount of people coming in to use the restroom, NOT. Their selection was meh but when you encounter a rude staff it is hard to make a fair judgment because you become angry. read more

Very serene and peaceful place to shop. The library is nice. You can sit comfortably and look at the books for as long as you want. Very helpful staff. They will order anything you want. If you are looking for something special that you can't find anyplace else, Elysian Fields has it. And I love the free gift wrapping. read more

This place was a nightmare for me. Everyone working was rude and their stock was pretty basic. I would say there are better places to go in Sarasota. Parking was a nightmare and it was a chore to use the restroom. Like some of the other reviews say, pretentious, snobby, and annoying. read more
