Great "reuse" store with everything you could possibly imagine for sale. From fur coats to an entire rack of clothes from Chicos, from beautiful china place settings to Christmas salt and pepper sets, from exquisite rugs to oil paintings. . This is the place to look. I stopped by the Exchange today as a first-time visitor. I am an avid thrifter. They have some interesting collectibles, knickknacks, and glassware or china. Some of the clothes were worn and outdated, and yet (overall) the prices were higher than other thrift stores nearby. Some of the items were marked at high prices with significant wear on the item (e.g., vinyl peeling off of a purse). I had one volunteer be somewhat rude to me when I was looking around and was confused about one of the rooms. Seems similar to others' experiences. Overall, it was okay, but I don't think I would return. read more

I've not been to The Exchange in quite a while. Decided to go take a look today. So many really nice things. I was looking for items to add interest to the decor in an Airbnb. Got sidetracked by the beautiful jewelry, but said "no". Regained focus and found some really pretty glassware and trinket trays, some pretty hearts with embroidered flamingos and a bedazzled Buddha. I have enjoyed dropping into this store for years and have found many treasures for outfitting my winter home here in Sarasota. I have noted, that on my last few visits, the volunteers have been somewhat rude and dismissive (with some exceptions of course). They all seem very unhappy which seems odd for volunteers. My last experience was over the top. I had some questions in the furniture department and all the staff were downright rude, not just to me but to other customers in the store. We all seemed to be just an irritant to them. It was bad enough that I will never be returning. This is such a shame but I will take both my donations and business elsewhere. read more

Quality items are not to be expected anymore. The thrill of the hunt has evaded me here in recent years with a complete lack of any interesting pieces. Two exceptions, a chandelier which I bought and love. And a coffee table I still kick myself for missing out on. For a shopaholic and reputed hoarder- I like to have options. That's why u have 13 coffee tables in storage and we each need to do our part to preserve the decorative arts if we love them. For me to have bought only a chandelier and a few hardcover coffee table books in the last few years is quite remarkable. Contrast that with 298 eBay treasure must-have finds in the previous year. read more

I've been shopping at the Exchange (Women's Exchange) for years. Interesting items are on consignment here. I was waiting to pay and a volunteer walks up to the cashier and starts talking and then pays for some reading glasses. The volunteer cut in front of me to pay for her item. I couldn't believe it. The Exchange depends on its volunteers, but I don't think that volunteers should cut the line. I sent an email to the organization about this but never had a reply. #sad read more

First time discover and I read about the old bitties. But they run a tight ship and the finds and prices are so well priced. They allowed us to come in w the dogs and I'm very thankful. Very busy place and I found three Art Deco pieces I really didn't need but a vintage glass piece that was an heirloom of my mother was broken and I found the exact piece that was from Marshall Fields in Chicago and it sure was under priced. I do believe that the business practices on the part of the paid staff are unsavory. In 2015, I consigned some more expensive furniture there which they sold for pennies on the dollar. Head of furniture department knew exactly what the brand and retail price was, yet they still sold for an unbelievable bargain basement price. I voiced my dissatisfaction to the head of the WE and she essentially gave me lip service. At the time, I believed that my goods were scarfed up by staff, and based on the experiences described by others here, I still do. Do not consign anything to this unscrupulous business. read more

I have a very soft spot in my heart for the Exchange. I moved to Sarasota back in 1979 and lived in the area till 1990, when I moved to Texas. At one point I volunteered at the (Women's) Exchange, and have fond memories of the experience. Because we have both friends and family in the area, we visit almost annually. No trip to Sarasota would be complete without a visit here, as I've yet to find anything like it in Texas. Everything is well organized, and the selection is incredible! Some things are a real bargain, others a bit pricey, but that's part of the fun, the thrill of the hunt. Most of the volunteers are very polite, helpful and friendly; I don't let a few of the "bossy/rude" bad apples spoil the fun, I just move on to another volunteer and get the answer or assistance I need. I never leave empty-handed, and always look forward to a visit when I come to the Gulf Coast. read more

It's been around for years and only gets better. The merchandise is well presented and plentiful.I believe the prices are fair and if you are a bit of a gambler you can watch and return when the prices drop. But, you do run a bit of a risk that way. So much to choose from: Jewelry , kitchen items , clothing, furniture and more! Now there is even an oriental rug section. You just can't go wrong or home empty handed. NB: Is wearing a face shield as effective as wearing a mask in preventing COVID-19? CDC does not recommend use of face shields for normal everyday activities or as a substitute for masks because of a lack of evidence of their effectiveness to control the spread of the virus from the source for source control. read more

I've come here before and had no issues. Today, I brought a friend for their first visit. We looked through the racks and she found so many pieces that she liked and wanted to try on. She went to the fitting room as I browsed the rest of the store. After not hearing from her or seeing her walking around the store again, I look at my phone and see a message saying that she's waiting by the car. The volunteers at the fitting rooms were SO rude to her through the dressing room door, becoming upset at her after seeing a clothing item fell in the processes of trying it on, that she became emotional. She decided to stop trying clothes on and gathered the items she was trying on back together. When she came out of dressing room to ask where to put the items she didn't want, she was visibly distressed and emotional, the volunteers saw this and continued to berate her and be rude about how she was handling items. My friend is someone who works in customer service all day, she has pretty tough skin. It takes a lot to get under her skin. Even if this person was a volunteer, they should not be allowed to interact with people in a front facing position if that's how they act. read more

Nope! Prices are super nuts. A bunch of junk mixed in with a bunch of overpriced stuff. Nope, nope and nope.

This place used to be great- for years- and was always top of list when here. But since they expanded, it's changed. You can still buy a ton of stuff, but they've sucked out the fun of being there. Some attitudes are woefully cranky at best, but even mean at worst. More than a few times, the staff/volunteers behave as they are in forced community service or simply do NOT enjoy the public- or shopping! This used to be my #1 spot but now doesn't even make the top 10. Try SPARCC's, Habitat, Episcopal, Goodwill etc etc. read more

I have both shopped and consigned here since 2007 Great organization that supports the local arts. Pros: Great place to consign your clean, in good condition housewares. If you're furnishing a seasonal home or need something for your year round residence you may just find it here. FANTASTIC high end and casual jewelry selection. Cons: Lots of changes. Miss the more vintage items (furniture, housewares, linens, crafts) they used to carry. This place has been thru many changes over the years and now its inventory isn't nearly what it used to be. So, I slowed down quite alot on how much I shopped here. Nowadays, the goods are mostly what you'd find at nicer home furnishing stores, or perhaps even TJMaxx, Beall's and the like. It's much more rare to find a unique item than it used to be. Tip: CALL ahead to be sure you show up to consign on the right day for the right intake of items. read more

The place buzzes with customers but the older blonde woman in the furniture department, Linda, is horrible. No manners, she literally pushed me out of the showroom when I was making my way to the door to leave after their 4pm announcement to close. She first rhetorically said, "Can I help you!" and when I said, "No. I'm leaving." She walked up toward me and stared me in the eyes. I told her, "Would you like to kick me out the door?" And she rudely replied,"I'm responsible for this department." I said, "So what? You think I'm going to put a piece of furniture under my arm and walk out the door so you're watching me like a hawk?!" She's koo koo and rude. I used to volunteer and shop there but I don't anymore because of her nastiness! read more

Ever since they acquired the space next door the prices have skyrocketed...are they not aware of something called the internet or Home Goods? Lots of grandma tchotckes and unfortunately everyone that works there is crochety bordering on rude. This was a hot spot for deals a few years back but no more. The fashion boutique is laughable unless you're over 60. Between the high prices, rude help and influx of low quality items I no longer waste my time there and I suggest you don't either. Do not consign with these rude, nasty, arrogant women. I was a new consignor and their instructions and phone messages do not match. After driving 40 minutes to their store, with some items, they refused to take 3 blouses which were not considered "miscellaneous". The volunteer actually came over to pick a fight with me about it and to straighten me out. These volunteers are very special and they are actually doing you a favor to take in your consignments. I live here, and over the years, I have shopped at the Exchange frequently, but have noticed that they have changed. There is a lot of junk and it is more like a flea market. I haven't bought anything in a long, long time. It was outrageous to be treated so viciously when I was bringing them business. They may be volunteers, but they hate their jobs. read more

This is an awesome store! The selection is fabulous, it's organized beautifully, all of the clothes are in excellent condition and I disagree with reviews stating that it targets older women, I found a lot of trendy items for younger women in there, too. The prices are better than reasonable, and they happened to have a 40% off sale on many of the items when I visited. The women who were there were welcoming and helpful, really charming! It's unfortunate that disgruntled sellers can leave bad reviews on here for them, the reason they refuse to buy their flawed clothes is so the boutique can offer a quality selection. Will enjoy wearing my Rock&Republic and Joe's Jeans that are in fantastic condition that I bought for 90% less than retail! Thank you! read more

I've shopped and consigned here quite often with the furniture department mostly. Always very friendly and helpful. Emails and phone calls are returned in a timely manner. If something doesn't sell within a specific time limit you will receive a letter about doing a donation of your items. I've recommended the exchange to many friends and they have all had a great experience. read more

If you like being ripped off by all means use the Women's Exchange. I had a terrible experience with these people and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. They took a set of 8 upholstered dining chairs on consignment, sold them off to someone and I never saw a dime. They did not answer emails nor did they return phone calls. I chalked it up to a loss and thought perhaps they couldn't sell the chairs and then donated them to charity like the contract I had signed suggested. Come to find out they sold the chairs to a dealer and they wound up at the Sarasota Trading Company across the street, conveniently enough for sale, a pair for 495.00. So if you like the feeling of this happening, go ahead and use them, the nice lady at the Sarasota Trading Company said they do it all the time, and too bad sucker. read more

The Women's Exchange sold my furniture back in July 2016 and I still have not been paid. I have contacted them several times, including a visit to the store, and I am getting the run around from the less than helpful staff. This is definitely the last time I'll work with this organization. I would rather donate my belongings to another charity than do business with The Women's Exchange again. read more

What a great find today! The women's exchange is located across the street from my salon, roots couture. They told me about it and was very happy I went! I found a cabinet, shirt, and more! And at very reasonable prices. The Ann Taylor blouse was only $8.99 and the cabinet was $29. There was a lot of china, glassware, nik naks, furniture, name brand clothing, and lots of jewelry. I didn't get to spend as much time here as I wanted, so it looks like I will be back. Great place for Christmas presents too. The proceeds of sales go towards scholarships and the local arts. Also a delightful place to make some money on your own goodies but be prepared to wait in line. I like that all employees are volunteers and the shop benefits the arts and education. Went today, around 2pm. I had brought a lot of clothes into the dressing room, and was trying to sort through what was fitting, not fitting, etc. They were on the floor, which I can recognize was not appropriate. Nothing was really fitting super well, and I was getting discouraged and emotional about my body. Then I heard a pound on the door and was told that I had all the clothes all over the floor and that I can't treat the clothes like that. I apologized and immediately picked them up before trying anything else on. Less than 5 minutes later I received another loud knock on the door, still in a state of undress trying to put my clothes back on, and I said I was almost done. When I exited the dress room, two older blonde women - one taller with long hair wearing blue and one a little shorter with short hair wearing yellow were standing there. They started with "I'm going to ask that you not do that again." And they proceeded to repeat themselves in an unkind manner when I was already clearly emotional coming out to ask where to put the clothes I wasn't going to buy. I was lectured that these clothes did not belong to the store and that I might treat my clothes that way, but that they must remain in perfect condition. I apologized while trying not to cry again, let them know I was going to leave, and separately complimented both of their necklaces because actually they were very nice. The one with long hair talked over me and repeated herself, and the shorter one asked "where the other pair of shoes" was accusatorially, as I had tried on a pair of boots in the dressing room. "The other pair" were my shoes, and I was wearing them on my feet. As I was struggling to carry them over to the rack to hang them up, the one with shorter hair said "see! You're stepping on them!" And I said, crying, "maam, I'm under 5 foot, I'm doing my best." I then made a beeline for the exit. I'm so disappointed. I had only heard good things about this place. read more
