This store is such a gem and it fits perfectly in old town Orange right off the circle. This isn't vintage like most stores in LA which have stuff from the 60's and newer, rather most of their stuff is from the 50's and older. The staff is helpful and extremely knowledgeable about everything in the store. They have everything from turn of the century top hats to glass eyes. The men's store and the women's store are separated by another space, but make sure you check out both or you'll miss some really cool stuff. Expect to pay a little more than you probably want to, but you'll get a quality piece of history for the price. read more

An eclectic store full of antique and vintage clothing and accessories. The layout of the store easy to browse with clothing arranged by type and then color. If you have any questions the staff seems very knowledgeable and friendly every time. They also carry a few new items that are styled after vintage patterns and the like. The staff seem passionate about their products and even dress according to the era. The lady who helped me try on a hat from the 1950s that I was interested in was very sweet and showed me how to untie/bring down the veil, while explaining that purpose of that design. "Meh. I've experience better" pretty much sums it up. Disappointing since the pictures show some really great dresses. Where were the cute dresses when I visited?! Their selection was very limited and consisted of frumpy 80's frocks and a few unimpressive, overpriced 50's dresses. After being contacted again and again by the owner about my review I've come back to elaborate. I truly was not impressed by the selection. Which is confusing since there have been so many positive reviews. What I saw was rather boring to be honest. Her explanation is that the nice pieces are kept in the back so that "grubby fingers" (exact quote and I'm not sure how else you can interpret that) do not damage them. I'm a little baffled by this since I've never heard of a clothing store hiding their pieces from the customer. So I moved on to the jewelry and discovered that most of it was new and cheaply made for the price. I stand by this and emphasize that what I saw was obviously new jewelry and many pieces made by one designer. I also saw numbers on the tags which in my experience denote consignment to a vendor which again would suggest all made by one designer. What was true vintage was a little bland to my tastes. "To each his own" I suppose. The one plus was the extensive selection of purses. My advice, find your vintage "elsewhere," for now. However, I will be stopping by again in the hopes that I find a better variety and some prettier pieces. I also find it discouraging that I fear leaving anything but positive reviews from now on due to the harassment I've received from the owner. I had hoped my review could be used to improve the store but her attitude has shown that she cannot accept criticism. In fact I ended up closing my Yelp due to her repeatedly insisting that I explain myself. She would not stop contacting me about my review. But a year and a half later I decided I should "buck up" and reinstate my account. Yelp has assured me that the store owner cannot contact me any longer so hopefully she can move on and focus on her business. read more

Today was my bachelorette day. Instead of going to a club or to Vegas I wanted to spend quality time with my girls having lunch and antiquing. At one point we wound up in this store. (It was cute from the outside.) After looking around and not finding anything that I absolutely loved I was about to leave when my friend pulled a vintage one piece swimsuit off the rack and asked me if I liked it. Like? I LOVED it. My fiancé adores vintage clothing and this suit would have been fabulous for our Maui honeymoon. Since it was a one piece it looked like I would have some freedom in the bust area. (I'm busty.) I said "Well maybe I should just try it on then? Oh look this other one is nice too, oh but I know for sure this won't fit. This one though this one could. I guess I can just try and see." At which point a woman (later identified as the owner, thanks Google, Yelp, and Facebook!) came out from the back at first offering me a room and then quickly changing her tone. She condescendingly told me that she knows this won't fit me. I was shocked. I'm getting married in four weeks. Today was supposed to be a special day for me. The last thing a bride-to-be wants to hear is something like that. I looked at her and told her that it might and she replied again that she knows it won't. I was quiet. My friend's jaw dropped. Then she continued, (yeah it gets worse), "Well if you want to try it on you can but you have to know that if you damage it you have to pay for it." I was so humiliated. I calmly put it back on he rack and said that I understand that vintage clothing is fragile, and also that I understand that some shoppers have the mentality like "well it's old so if I break it it's not a big deal". I told her this. I also calmly told her that I'm not one of those shoppers. And then I turned around and left. I finally got to cry as soon as my foot went out the door. That was the most AWFUL and HEARTBREAKING experience I've had all day. And if you're wondering what I look like, I'm not obese. Not even close. I'm also not stupid. I know that if you're trying on a garment and it doesn't go past your hips or thighs that it's time to slowly pull it back down and hang it back up and go find another piece that fits. Vintage clothing is tricky that way. I don't have one size that I look for in vintage clothing. It's all over the map for me. My friends were so upset that I was crying. They wanted to go back in and yell at this woman. I told them please don't. So they called. They spoke with a "manager" who identified herself as the girl with her hair down. (There were two girls. The one with her hair up was the woman who hurt my feelings.) The "manager girl with her hair down" told my friend she was sorry and the other woman was "new" and she would be spoken to about this etc. Come to find out thanks to the internet that was all a lie. The woman was not new. She's the OWNER! And if you want to know how outrageous she is, take a look at her response to this review because she WILL leave one. Look at the "not recommended" reviews. Scroll down to the bottom. read her responses to these customers. UNPROFESSIONAL. UNAPOLOGETIC. UNREAL. It's a wonder this woman is still in business. By the way, I left and dropped $200 somewhere else. I'm sorry that you're sick with "something" and you have bad days (this is the owner's excuse for her rude behavior in all of her response comments). My mother has a chronic illness that sometimes leaves her unable to even get off the couch. She is in so much pain. And she NEVER treats people with such rudeness and disrespect. That is no excuse. If you want your doors to stay open, you should change your attitude. Only so many hipsters will buy your (for the most part pretty ugly) vintage finds until they can't take your attitude anymore. What a great vintage store!!! I was at the last minute looking for an 80's dress for my sister who was going to a themed party. I went on Yelp and saw the reviews for Elsewhere Vintage so I decided to swing by. I found a few dresses that would be perfect but settled on one since I didn't have my sister there to try them on. The staff was extremely helpful and nice and the lady at the front desk (sorry, I don't remember your name) even tried on the dress for me so I could get an idea if it would fit my sister or not. I came here when they were located on Olive st and it has been sometime since I last came by. So, recently I came in to take a look at their new shop. Which before was Pa Kua. The shop is in pristine shape. Neatly organized. The selection was more so like 30's-40's to 50's era. I really dig the 60's-70's as well as the 80's. My thing now is Dolman sleeve dresses and blouses... I found more of a "Stepford Wive" selection here which is cool.. I just prefer a different era. For the most part if you are a lover of vintage clothing then this should be on your list of things to see as well as the many other antique shops and malls in Old Towne Orange. I did find a dress that I like and it fit perfectly. A little long but that is what a seamstress is for. Prices are a little pricey. My dress was $45. But, for the era that it was from which guessing on the cut and style it is for sure late 40's in amazing condition so I don't mind paying for it. This shop is jaw dropping. Peek through the history of fashion and try not to squeal when you slip that silk beaded number on in the fitting room. If you are looking for something vintage for a fancy dress event, Gatsby Day in Nor Cal, an event with the Art Deco Society, NYE at The Queen Mary or just a night on the town, you MUST go to Elsewhere Vintage. It is so clear that an amazing amount of work and care has gone into curating the most incredible collection of finery I've ever seen. The prices are amazing as are the staff and owner. They are right there to assist you as many of their pieces are delicate and you will need some help retrieving them. They have plenty of pieces that are reproductions and made of sturdy material but there is nothing quite like finding that truly vintage piece. Freaking love this store! From the makeup goodies at the counter (placed there like an adorable assortment of jeweled candies) to the wide variety of vintage hats and dresses this place is spot on. The staff are the loveliest bunch of girls you'll ever meet, patient, sweet and very attentive! They even have a nice mix of vintage recreation, just in case you can't find the perfect fit in the oldies line (busty gals will know what I'm saying). The variety isn't just narrowed to the clothing, it's reflected in the pricing as well. You can tell that elsewhere takes time to take into consideration the collect-ability, condition and style of the dress into each price. As easily as you can find a 100 dollar dress you could also find some for 40 bucks too, the same goes with their hats and other vintage accessories. The time period of clothing here can range anywhere between victorian all the way to 1950's and early 60's so no matter what you're looking for, you'll likely find it here. read more

I have visited and shopped many vintage stores, but by far, Elsewhere Vintage is the best I have come across. I have been coming here now for several years and remember when it was just one store for the ladies (the second store they have for ladies is too young for me, although they have some fun stuff and I have yet to go into the gentlemen's store, but I will). I look for specific items, and the discoveries here are endless. The things I take into consideration when I go to any store: the hospitality of the staff, the organization, the selection of the merchandise, and the care of the merchandise. Kristine, the owner, and her staff always greet you and are happy to show you any item(s) you care to see. They are not pushy and are very truthful when asked about items (I love the sign that says "Only buy what you love"). Kristine should also be commended for the selection of items she sells; nothing but the best. The store is small and intimate, and when you step inside, you see right away the layout of the store; nothing is bunched together, items are displayed nicely, and you do not feel claustrophobic. There have been times when I have walked into other vintage stores and saw what interested me, but had to fight to get to the actual item because either things were on the floor and/or the clothing racks were jam packed and too close together. That right there shows disrespect for the items. With Elsewhere Vintage, every single article of clothing, jewelry, etc., is carefully displayed. And I love the sign over the dresses that ask to please handle the dresses by the hangers, not the actual dress itself (or something to that effect). Because we need to remember some vintage is fragile and in order for us all to enjoy it, whether we wear it or display it, it should be handled gently and graciously. Which is another point I want to make: you can clearly tell that Kristine and staff value the items they sell. I believe they go through a process when they acquire an item where it is thoroughly and gently cleaned before it is presented to the customer. I appreciate this as I'm turned off by vintage stores that smell like they've opened up a thousand year old chest. Elsewhere Vintage should be the model for other vintage stores. This shop is awesome! I am a full figured girl (measurements 32 waist and 36 bust) and have always had difficulties finding vintage dresses that fit my body. Elsewhere Vintage is great because they list measurements on the tag making it easier to determine whether or not the dress is right for you. I found what might be the prettiest dress I've ever owned (my husband agrees!) there yesterday and I can't stop trying it on and twirling around. GO HERE. It is amazing. read more

To tell you the truth, I'm new to vintage shopping. I've always loved vintage clothes, but it's really hard to find a store that is close and offers decent prices. I found this place, thanks to the other reviews on yelp, and I decided to check it out with my mom. Yesterday, my mom was taking me to go dress shopping for homecoming. Honestly I hate dress shopping because the stuff you see in the normal stores is all the same, and boring. I wanted to check this place out first, to see if i could find something, but I had a feeling I probably wouldn't, but it never hurts to look. When we found the shop, it was so cute on the outside. When we went in, it was a little small, but they had a lot of cool stuff, I was just having fun looking. They seemed to have a good selection of dresses, and I found one that was really cute, but kinda pricey. As i kept on flipping through the racks, I found the most adorable 1950's dress! It was hard to believe that it could be so cute, and be in my size! I don't wanna sound cheezy, but it was like fate! I tried it on, and it fit perfectly. The price was a little high for me, but i think most vintage stores are kinda like that, and loved it so much, I couldn't pass it up. It was the easiest shopping experience Ive had in a long time. Great little place, and a must for vintage shopping if you find yourself in old town Orange. The selection of clothes and accessories is large and they even have wedding dresses in the back. The prices are not cheap, but reasonable considering everything is handpicked; and if you find that one of a kind item it will be worth it! I picked up a unique, signed red purse from the 50s, the likes of which I had never seen. Everything was in good to great condition. However, I wish they had more shoes. The shoes are displayed randomly throughout the store and I needed the salesperson to help me find them. I love old stuff, and was able to check out this store on a rare day off. What a great little store! Everything was well organized, with a great men's and women's section. I loved all the cute accessories - the bags and jewelry were gorgeous. There were some beautiful dresses there... great designs, especially if I was going to a theater premiere or a fancy dinner. The prices seemed very reasonable, too. You'd pay twice as much for a cheaply made knockoff at a department store. I'm a big fan of the "treasure hunt", so I'll be sure to come back often to find that must-have in my wardrobe! read more

Having read the reviews here, I am incredibly puzzled by the few negative reviews I read. I have shopped at this store (for gifts to friends) and the sister men's store Joyride (for myself). I am a NOT a rich guy AND I'm a Latino and yet I have NEVER felt like someone was being racist or snooty to me. The only thing I can think of is that there must be one employee I have never come into contact with. (and I've been there plenty of times) In any case, I want to re-assure everyone that this is NOT the norm, in my experience. (and if you have read any of my reviews, you know I don't let people off easily) Both Vintage Elsewhere and Joyride are clean, well organized, classy and fairly priced. I have received nothing but helpfulness and friendliness from the staff and owner. I highly recommend these places. I still have my vest and fedora I purchased at Joyride, and my friends loved their gifts from Vintage Elsewhere -which did not cost an arm and a leg. read more

When I first walked in I was really excited about the variety of items. Most vintage shops I've been into don't have as wide of a variety of items from before the 1950's. I was however concerned with the customer service I received. There were several elegant hats on a low table placed in front of a mirror. Naturally when seeing this kind a display one would assume that the mirror was there to encourage the costumer to try the hats on. However when I picked up the hat an employee in a very agitated way said "Those hat's are from the 1910's, so be really really gentle with them." It wasn't until I put the hat back down when she said thank you and left us alone. I completely understand wanting to insure that such a fragile item is treated with respect but I still felt that maybe the tone was a little judgmental. If the display maybe had a sign that said "do not touch" I wouldn't have touched the hats. I noticed there were signs on other items, and that certain things were behind glass cases. I feel it may have been best if those particular hats were put behind the display case or up high or labeled with sign and in place hats that the customer could interact with be put in front of the mirror. After that encounter I felt very discouraged from looking at anything else in the store. I was afraid that I may be reprimanded once more if I touched unknowingly touched another item that also had an inviting display, so I left the store without purchasing anything. Once again it's understandable if the item is clearly marked as being fragile, but when something is unclear it makes me as a shopper uncomfortable. read more

My best friend and I went to this store to find dresses for Disneyland's Dapper Day. The dresses are beautiful, along with their hats and accessories. However, the services was beyond terrible. My best friend fell in love with one particular dress and was about to try it on. One of the employees held the dress up, glanced at her and said, "this dress will fit you" while looking at me. Then the employee went on about how my best friend's "body could potential rip our dresses." I have shop at other vintage stores and I understand that the fabric for most dresses are fragile. But I have never been to a store that would say incredibly harsh phrases to a beautiful woman. I told my other friends and they have had similar experiences. Soon after, one of my good friends informed me that this is the same store that she left crying when she was trying to find gloves for her wedding and an employee judge her "pudgy hands." I'm sorry, but no one should feel criticize by body shamming phrases when wanting to feel timeless beauty. read more

Elsewhere Vintage is by far and away my favorite vintage boutique. And for the most simple of reasons. As a photographer, I generally trend toward pinhole and earlier genres, and so I scour for beautiful. authentic period pieces constantly. I have visited many other boutiques in Los Angeles, and San Francisco. In absolute honesty, there is likely nowhere I will shop from today onward, except for this one beautiful shop. As a photographer, I am reverent to those masters who produced and came before me, and so I likewise have a special reverence for history and for beautiful pieces of that past. Today, I was lucky enough to meet the proprietor of this boutique. And, in talking with her, and looking at pieces, it was so wonderful to see how she cared for each item, the gentleness she bestowed upon the pieces...the careful way that she treated them...each a piece of history that cannot ever be re-produced. I was particularly impressed with the way the dresses from the 20's are folded into drawer spaces, instead of hanging. To me, that said so much. To wit, this was clearly a labor of love for her...and I felt a great affinity with that. Just a knowledge of, and a respect for, bygone time...and treating the pieces with the import and humility that such things deserve. These are quality pieces...and even the smallest flaws in items were pointed out honestly and forthrightly . It is so nice to find a place to feel a real connection with. All of the items are fairly priced, commensurate with their era of origin. A beautiful place, and one I will return to, again and again. read more
