Unfortunately this place will fat shame you the moment you walk in. I'm a size large, and when I first started to shop I took note that there were lots of large and xl options which honestly can be rare in vintage shops. I was excited to find something cute and the worker asked if I wanted to try it on and I said sure. Once I got to the dressing room she reminded me that If it doesn't fit don't force it. Mind you the dress I was trying on was essentially a moo moo. I understand being careful with vintage clothing so I wanted to brush it off. But then when the lady next to me got a dressing room she did not get the same speil as me. I also noticed a sign in the dressing room that was specifically geared towards plus size customers to make them think twice before trying something on. As a larger woman you don't need to remind us to be delicate with clothes. It's just unfortunate that I came to check the yelp reviews to see a lot of the same comments. If you're larger than a size 8 I wouldn't recommend coming here. They don't choose kindness and will put you down. I ended buying the dress because it did like it, but I can assure you, it's not worth giving you their money. read more

Unfortunately I had a very disappointing experience at this store due to unprofessional and body-shaming behavior from a staff member. While browsing for a dress in my size (XS,S), an employee commented that the size I chose would not fit and insisted I needed to be "measured by her." She went on to suggest I was a much larger size than I actually am. Not only was her assumption incorrect, but her tone was dismissive and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Making unsolicited comments about a customer's body and size is never acceptable especially when those comments are based on assumption rather than fact. Shopping for clothes should be a positive and welcoming experience, not one where customers are made to feel judged or embarrassed. I hope management addresses this issue and provides training on respectful, size-inclusive customer service. Until then, I will not be returning or recommending this store. read more

I've been here a few times and I can definitely say they have quality pieces in good condition. This shop has a beautiful variety of vintage pieces and knowledgeable and friendly employees. I will say it's quite expensive so it's less of a place to "shop around" and more of a place where you'd search for quality, authentic vintage pierces. And while it is expensive, I will say their sale section does have some very (even cheaply) priced items! For example, the photo attached is of my $5 60s shirt/dress was a steal! It was a large size so I think that's why it was so discounted even though it was in perfect condition? I think it's normally a top. Either way, I was pleasantly surprised by the price considering the quality. On the flip side, even some of their older/damaged items are still expensive. For example, a 50s era dress was on sale for over $60 even with holes, but it was priced that way because of its time period. The price range is quite large from $200 hats to $10 tops. They also have accessories including jewelry, purses, tights, etc. It's also in a fantastic location with lots of other vintage shops and cafes next door. While I wouldn't shop here for everyday pieces, will definitely continue to come back here for authentic vintage pieces. read more

Walked in on a Saturday afternoon and found some adorable skirts, I decided to try the three I liked and as I asked to try them on she explained their process for their fitting room, saying it's vintage and most don't have stretch, as she was telling me all of this, she kept looking at me up and down? Not sure for what reason, maybe she was trying to predict if my options would fit, maybe she liked my outfit? Whatever the reason, it made me feel uncomfortable and it was a very unwelcoming feeling. I recently visited this store for the first time and will never go back. I go to secondhand stores all the time, you could even consider it a hobby. I find beauty and possibility in places most would overlook, which is why I typically love these kinds of stores. Upon entering the store, neither me or my friend were greeted (and I know we weren't unnoticed because we were having a conversation as we walked in). I noticed some dresses to my right as I entered and they're ordered by color, not size, so it took a while for me to get through the first rack. This whole time, I'm still having a conversation with my friend. At some point I felt someone behind me, and I assumed it was my friend because she usually stays close by and at this moment, our conversation had ended. A few seconds go by and I realize that the person behind me isn't my friend but instead the employee working this shift at the store (I don't know her name and it doesn't really matter). I notice that the employee is very obviously pretending to be "fixing" a mannequin but is actually just watching me. So I turn and say "Oh, hello!" And not only does she not respond but she gives me one of the most blatant dirty looks I've ever received. At this point, I was like "okay... weird" in my head, but I moved on from the awkward moment. As I made my way around the room store, the employee was ALWAYS within eyesight except for the brief moment when I went to their (might I add, awfully curated and overpriced) clearance section in the very back of the store. Other customers walked in while my friend and I were there and she greeted them and was seemingly very nice to them. But my experience was very hostile and strangely enough, I was the only person of color who was there. I'm not sure if downtown Orange is just... stuck in another era or what... but this was clearly racially motivated and it was quite appalling. The clothes weren't nice enough for me to be racially profiled and followed around the store, that's for sure. read more

The employees will fat shame you! Today my friend and I were just casually shopping and vintage clothes are never the easiest thing for us to find when you are a woman larger than a size 8. But despite our doubts we actually found something that might fit in the clearance section I encouraged my friend to try it even though she was hesitant, when one of the workers stepped in and said let me get you a fitting room I grabbed our drinks and went to sit down, and that's when the worker leaned in and told my friend that because it's vintage there's not a lot of give and to try not to rip anything while she was trying it on. I don't know how a woman could even contemplate saying that to another woman. It was so rude and unnecessary, we were clearly very upset and my friend didn't even try the garment on because the employee "fat shamed" her. I still can't believe we are still dealing with people who want to make others feel small and ashamed of their size or differences. Pathetic read more

I love this place! By far the best vintage clothing store in OC. The ladies who work here are so kind and helpful plus they dress in vintage-ware themselves which makes the experience even more authentic! Everything is also labeled by size which makes it very easy to find things that will fit you. i've seen a few reviews, claiming that the employees "fat-shame" customers because they ask customers to be careful when trying on clothes as vintage clothing does not have much stretch. personally, I don't believe that their goal is to shame anyone I'm an extra small and they still let me know to be careful when trying on clothes. Even pieces that are over a hundred years old! There was one staff member which helped us out somewhat. WARNING: YOUR FINANCES AND SIZE WILL BE SCRUTINIZED BY AN EMPLOYEE SHOULD YOU DESIRE TO TRY ON AN ARTICLE OF CLOTHING. GOOD LUCK AT THAT POINT BECAUSE THEY PROBABLY ALREADY MADE UP THEIR MIND THAT THEY DON'T WANT YOU TRYING IT ON. Asked to try on a mannequin-displayed dress and, in what was an obvious attempt to dissuade me, was immediately informed said dress was by X designer and was 400something dollars. Okay great, and? I pay half that just to fill my truck's fuel tank. I digress. Flummoxed, I glossed over that unsolicited information and expressed my desire to try it on, yet again. Having noticed my resoluteness, the employee started talking about the dress's measurements as they walked over to it and proceeded to ask my measurements. Irrelevant, but I played along. They grabbed the measuring tape from around their neck and motioned to measure my waist. I obliged. I was TWO INCHES over the size of the dress. They then pulled the measuring tape tight around my waist and said "THAT'S 26 inches" (eww). Before I could say anything else, they suggested some shapewear (lol) and told me to let them know if there's anything else I'd like to try on, despite having just done so, and being denied. Why'd they even bother saying that if it's only contingent on further scrutiny and probable refusal? Hilariously tone-deaf. I love *true* vintage clothing and frequently shop at vintage clothing boutiques. NOT ONCE has my perceived financial situation (or size) been scrutinized on an item-by-item basis. What in the Pretty Woman is going on at this place? Lmfao I get it, this is not your typical clothing store. What really concerned me though, is the blatant discrimination based on what I'm to assume was my looks/attire -- clearly evidenced by what transpired: 1. I asked to try on a garment. 2. My request was ignored. 3. I was offered, instead, information and price of the garment from a rejective employee. 4. I asked a second time. 5. Only then did it become about measurements. Had it simply been a matter of laziness as opposed to concern over me outright damaging a garment because of 2 extra inches then they should have said so. That, at least, would have been believable. Especially given initial emphasis was not on my measurements, but on the price of the garment. If preservation is valued so far above service and sales (genuinely admirable), perhaps an appointment-only private showroom would be better suited to the owner and their persnickety employees. Given just how tactless the employees are, plus the various filler and modern/reproduction items for sale, their attempted projection of a highbrow store falls flat. After years in business and multiple negative reviews, you'd think discernible change would have been implemented by now. It seems more a matter of ineptitude at this point. Additional context: 1. I'm well aware of the nature of vintage clothing sales. Vintage pieces are 1 of 1 and should be treated with utmost care, even if they are in good condition. Common sense would not allow me to damage a vintage item by squeezing into one, forcing it closed, etc. Signs are also posted lest a customer lack common sense. The item in question was not some extremely-fragile silk crepe dressing gown from the 1930s, although I still would have treated it as such. It was a spaghetti-strap dress of sturdy fabric in like-new condition with buttons running down the length of the dress. I would have had to *try* in order to cause damage. 2. I am tall and slender, and not at all touchy about my measurements/weight. I will contentedly walk away from an item that is obviously too small and not try to "make it work" in the fitting room. There's a difference between size and proportions, and these people should know that. I'm happy to purchase an undersized dress, but only after having tried it on to gauge the feasibility/likelihood of it fitting properly with either minimal weight loss or tailoring, first. Tangentially, if I love a vintage item that doesn't/won't fit, I'll photograph the item and tag, and search for something similar but larger from online resellers having already gotten a sense for what size I'll need by trying the smaller size (to whatever extent I can without compromising the health of the garment), first. read more

First time visiting this store and I loved the vibe. The lady working there was absolutely marvelous she was so polite and helpful. However I ended up buying one dress and I guess it's partially my fault for thinking a place with "vintage" in their name sells all vintage items. I was wrong, the dress I purchased for $46 was not vintage and is actually something you can buy on wish for $14 with $8 shipping. The dress I bought had no tag so I should've known better or done more research before purchasing. Just be careful if you're looking for real vintage items. Stopped in at Elsewhere Vintage today and I was reminded of why I still consider this shop the best place in OC to find unique beautiful vintage garments. The quality and selection of vintage pieces here is something I can't find anywhere else. I've been striking out big time buying vintage online which looks great in photos but once you receive it, it either doesn't fit or looks unflattering on you. There's no substitute for seeing the clothes in person and being able to try it on. The sales associates were so nice and attentive to me. Going to address some complaints I've seen here, mainly, about trying items on. As a true vintage buyer, I know this items cannot be replaced, therefore, they ask you to not try to make anything fit. Also, they will happily take things off mannequins and the wall for you, just be patient. Again, if the tag says medium and you are a medium, make note that sizing has changed. I'm an extra large, but, in true vintage I am a XXL which is almost impossible to find. The ladies here are very helpful and very sweet and are always helpful. If you don't like the policies, please go elsewhere and let true vintage fans enjoy, these items are NOT repros. read more

Can't believe we're into the new year and I haven't raved about this place yet. If you are on the hunt for a showstopping gala-worthy gown at an outrageous deal, I absolutely recommend this place. I was down to the wire on a rather crazed, last minute hunt for something quintessentially special for a red carpet event and frankly, I would not have believed someone if they told me I could find that around Old Towne Orange. It is by pure happenstance that I walked in here and, given my serious desperation and fatigue at the time, it was as lucky a choice as one can make. If you are looking for expertise and VIP level service, the women at Elsewhere serve that up and then some. Honestly, I didn't have to do much after stepping through the door. After describing my taste, the event, and my general measurements, I was led to their dressing room and gowns upon gowns were delivered to me. They even have a local tailor that does last minute adjustments for fit and style. It felt like I had my own personal stylist and team committed to the occasion. Ultimately, I settled on an opaline white gown dripping with pearls and iridescent sequins. Oh, and the final look, hardened up with charcoal leather accessories, was quite the vision that night. The owner Kristine replied to this post as if she had a young child working who did was just so eager to tell me about the Antebellum South and slavery. As though the employee working wh was rude, disrespectful, and disturbing not at all did i get any feelings of being "excited" and if you are "excited" to tell the Black Woman about slavery and the clothes during that time period then disturbing is the right feeling that I had? It was weird and verified a huge leadership issue that seems to come from leadership under Kristine. I was more than clear on what the work was for and Antebellum clothing is what we were looking for yet it was not only that the clothing pieces in the store had a low variety of that time period it was the ugly behavior and lack of vintage time periods and clothing on top of the rude engagement that the white women working displayed and if they were Hispanic they were white-passing and still very very rude but let us be real: THEY WERE WHITE and Kristine's passive-aggressive remark to downplay the issue is a clear example of her failure as a store owner. "Kristine, your unwillingness to take a look at your team and YOUR failures are hugely disturbing. If a young girl is working at the store and is rude, condescending, and unable to know if she should be telling a Black Women about slavery then YOU are the problem and at fault as the store owner but so is she -age does not matter when one is rude and disrespectful. It takes a community + village to raise the future and that means being able to address issues when they arise.
