Yesterday, I stopped in for a bite during a quick road trip. They had this incredible item, Filthy Fries Buffalo Chicken. The ingredients are as followed: Hot buffalo house breaded Panko chicken, served on a bed of fries, topped with fried onions, melted cheese, bacon, and house garlic aioli. HOLY MOLY, this was INCREDIBLE. I subbed sweet potato fries for the regular fries then asked for an additional side of buffalo sauce because I like to turn up the heat. new ownership is working very hard to change this well known and beloved local resturaunt into some kind of club or something. We showed up for a brunch and were seated around 1pm. Shortly after we were seated our waiter told us that she was being sent home and that there would be no more table service, she handed us our menus and told us to order at the bar. The bartenders were confused by this, but took our orders. As we waited for food, a DJ took the stage and begin blasting extremely loud house music into the small room. He played through the duration of our brunch, making conversation impossible and leaving the kids feeling somewhat uncomfortable. It seemed like an extremely poor fit for a sunday early afternoon. If this is the direction the new owner is taking this business, he should change the name, or rebrand. I will not be returning. read more

My friends and I have been hitting up this spot for our weekly breakfast for over two years now. We've always loved the great service and relaxed vibe--it's what has made us such loyal regulars. Lately, though, there's been a change in ownership, and you can really feel the shift. They've started pulling the more affordable, everyday items off the menu, which is a huge bummer. On top of that, the food quality has definitely slipped, and it feels like they're cutting corners in the kitchen (Sysco menu items). Wow, haven't been here in years and I probably won't be coming back here in years horrible service had to wait for one hour to be seated took another half hour for the waiter to acknowledge us and 35 minutes to finally get our food this place has really changed in a bad way to not recommend this place at all. Well, I've been coming here well over a decade for breakfast and you can definitely tell it's under new management none of the old waiters or waitresses are there you don't get as much food as you used to one piece of toast instead of two you have to ask for any extra little thing it's just sad cause you go to one of your favorite restaurants and once they sell it it seems like the new owners are in the hole so they start raising prices and cutting back on everything actually I don't think I'm gonna come back. The only good thing is I think maybe the coffee taste the same the eggs are super small portions. It had been awhile since we had breakfast here. It used to be our morning frequent places to eat. What happened? Oh maybe bc my wife has to watch her food intake. Service here however is excellent & we had seen our same waiter from years before. We noticed a nice renovation of the black booths & tables both bar height and the usual table height. I used the men's restroom & it's no longer wonky like before. A plus! I had the pancake combo & my pancakes were thick & massive. Too much to eat at one sitting. But it was a good thing! My wife had the Denver omelette, home fries & sour dough toast. She could only eat half! We were satisfied here! My wife noticed they even have a keto item on the menu & shrimp salad too. Bottomless mimosas ($18) are 11am-2pm and are pretty good. They don't pre-mix them so you can add as much OJ as you'd like. I just order a side of ham ($5.5) which is pretty great. Just a nice piece of protein. Also got a side of biscuits and gravy ($5.50 for 2). Bf got the club sandwich ($15) which is always good. Pretty standard club sandwich. read more

Came by for the first time the other day and really enjoyed the ambiance of the place, the staff and the food! Didn't know they open later on Thursdays to Saturday night. Love that. Will have to stop by during those nights lol I got the carnitas eggs Benedict and that was just delicious! They recently started having Saikou Matcha popups here on the weekend which it what I stopped by for! (Possible soon an everyday thing) One of their staff has 12 years of professional matcha making skills and you can definitely tell by the quality and flavor of the drink. Huge menu with lots of unique options! The space was pretty cute too, lots of seating and very chill for a Saturday morning. Would love to see how it transforms at night since it's also the Redlight lounge! The staff was super friendly and had very good vibes. Drove by this place many times and finally got the opportunity to try this place for breakfast. It was completely not what I expected in terms of decor. I thought it would be an old school diner vibe but it was modern with a bar, tvs and good music. They were playing 80's music videos and we enjoyed it. We ordered the chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy combo and Bloody Marys. The food and drinks were really good and the food had good portions. While our waiter was nice, I minus one star for the service of the hostess. She had an rbf and wasn't super friendly. I don't like to feel like I'm bothering you when I want to be seated or ask for water. I would come back again though because we all had bad days! read more

Bro painted everything black, bought a bunch of ferns, got rid of chocolate milk, apple juice, single pancakes and kids menus. I guess the plan is to ensure there's no next generation of cornerstone customers. The menu will change soon and to finish it off, the name will change completely. If ever a place needed to be worker owned it was this place. read more

The quality in the ingredients have changed since the new owner took over and he doesn't seem to care that paying customers are noticing. He's also removing all negative reviews so I'm sure this won't be up for long. I heard the West Sac location is the place to go, so I'll try that location moving forward. read more

The food was okay. I got the Belgian waffle combo and it tasted fine but unfortunately no extra thrills or anything to write home about. The service was really nice though! Really nice and caring staff. The ambience was interesting because this place doubles as a bar so on a cold and quiet Monday morning there's huge light fixtures and televisions for evening activities. Cornerstone has been, well a Cornerstone in the midtown area for years. I've frequented this spot with my then girlfriend and now wife. We bring our kids here at least once a month for weekend breakfast. It was one of the best reasonably priced diners in the neighborhood. Recently, Cornerstone has gone under new management and the changes are here. Menu has a more slim down core list and most notably they do not offer a kids menu any more. Staff had a lot of new faces they were polite but seemed like they're still getting the rhythm of things. Food quality was different for sure as well. Not necessarily worse but disappointing that it wasn't the same. We went on a Sunday at 9:30 place had a lot of open seating which made the 40 min wait for food deflating. Overall, the lack of urgency, attention to detail, and ownership changes are enough for us explore other options. read more

New fave breakfast spot in Sac. Memorial Day - Monday - and it seems that 100% of downtown residents are camped outside the chi-chi spots that had been recommended. So - YELP to the rescue. Called ahead and learned that their "slam" period had just ended, so we could get a table and breakfast without a long wait. Man, t'was worth driving around half of downtown to find this gem. Interestingly, I had just been to the Dumpling spot next door a week ago. Coffee and waters the minute we sat down. Hubs proclaimed that the coffee is the best he's had in Sac. Hubs had the Belgian waffle combo and ate every bite. I ordered the carnitas Benedict, and man what a wonderful combo. Shoutout to the home fries. Crispy and crunchy thin sliced potatoes done up on the grill. No pics this time around. We were really hungry and dove into our grub without 'gramming it. Stellar service. Yummy food. Came to enjoy some small talk with a friend and enjoy a small shared brunch. Sat at bar and bartender/server was friendly and was not busy. Ordered corned beef and hash with sourdough toast, corned beef and hash was came out hot and toast was nice and buttered. Also ordered lettuce wrapped bacon cheeseburger with fries but didn't eat fries. Burger was cooked as ordered and freshly made. They fired all the good busers, bartenders, and staff. The food quality has gone down tremendously and they're doing god knows what with the place. Been coming here for YEARS. What a wonderful surprise this place was. When we were there it was a pop-up salsa night! The music was really fun and people came from all over Northern California to dance. So very entertaining! I was really disappointed at the service at Cornerstone and I do not think I would return. My group of 4 and I arrived around 11 am and were told to wait about 10 minutes for seating. We were called pretty fast, but waited another 10 mins to get our drink orders in. After that, we did not see our waitress for another 30 minutes and my friends and I had to flag down someone to get a water refill and order. We tried to be understanding because it was busy, but we noticed our waitress going to other tables and seemingly ignoring us. We waited another hour and half to receive our food. My friends complained that their French toasts that they ordered were cold, and my corned beef hash I got looked like one of those from the can. The food and service were beyond mediocre at best. I really wanted to see the best in this restaurant and give them a chance but I was extremely disappointed due to the 2 hour long wait for Sysco reheated food. I felt really bad communicating my disappointment with the waitress as well, but there is a lot of room to improve. Waiting two hours just to order and not even being checked in on was not great, and I did not want to complain but it is ridiculous for the price customers are paying for their food. read more

We tried the Cornerstone Cafe & Bar (J Street) for lunch yesterday. This was our first experience eating there. It was lunch time but not busy ... maybe 8 other folks having lunch. My hunch is business picks up significantly in the evening. Nice, but low key, bar atmosphere. Service was very good. Our order consisted of their soup of the day and two salads. The soup was Beef Vegetable. A little short on beef but hardy and good ... house made. I also enjoyed my Shrimp Louie - Bed of fresh greens topped with bay shrimp, avocado, hard boiled egg, tomatoes, cucumber slices and paprika. Generous amount of tasty shrimp. The other salad was Tuna. It too included a bed of fresh greens with hardboiled egg, tomato and cucumber slices and topped with homemade tuna salad. Very reasonable prices. It took at least five minutes for the waitress to bring menus - note there were only two other customers in the restaurant, so being busy wasn't a reason. We ordered basic breakfast - eggs, bacon, toast. The food had no seasoning and was absolutely bland and tasteless. BTW, a cup of coffee and glass of iced tea cost almost as much as our two meals. Visited cornerstone at 11:30a on a Sunday. Party of 6. Service was pretty quick, Calvin was our server. He was pretty nice. Food was mid/just okay. I ordered the biscuits and gravy combo and there was also a club sandwich. Biscuits did not contain any sausage in the gravy and was nothing to write home about. There was nothing spectacularly tasty about the gravy, nothing that would make it memorable. The "toasted" sandwich had cold meat, and when we asked if it could be warmed we were told the kitchen could not accommodate. The other plates were either just okay OR Not edible. Two plates were left picked over, no acknowledgement or inquiry as to why be the restaurant. It was because the omelettes were reviewed as "bland". Can't say I would return or recommend. read more

Food arrived hot, and I like hot food served hot! I asked for my eggs sunny side up and loose, and this is the first time they've been served to me the way I like them. Yes, FIRST time. (They're usually firm-to-crispy). The servings are generous, and with the prices charged at all restaurants, these days, it's nice to have a to-go box of leftovers for later.
