I was staying in Hillsboro, and I liked the menu, so I came in for breakfast. Nice simple coffee shop vibe. Place was very clean and everybody was very friendly. They have a very large menu.... I was very tempted to get the Dutch pancake, but instead, I decided to go for the "craboocado omelette." Dungeness crab, bacon, avocado, Swiss cheese, tomato, Hollandaise, and chives. Instead of potatoes, I asked for fruit, and a nice bowl of very fresh fruit came with the meal. The omelette was amazing. There was a very generous amount of crab, and it played very well with the other ingredients. None of the flavors really fought with each other. My omelette didn't come with avocado, although I didn't really mind, because I think that might've just put it a little bit over the top. I had my hollandaise brought on the side, so I could put my own amount down, and it was perfect. The hollandaise was rich with just a little bit of a tang to it. For my bread, I had a wonderfully fluffy biscuit. They do very good biscuits here. Considering the amount of crab, the price was extremely reasonable. Waiting for northbound traffic to lighten, I dropped into Elmer's for a quick dinner. Very clean and spacious (with a roaring fireplace that was very appreciated in this chilly spring evening). I was immediately greeted by a very warm and sweet young woman. The waitress appeared tableside to take my drink order within seconds. I had spotted a picture of prime rib - they looked great - when I was entering, so glanced over the menu but ended up ordering the prime rib dinner because it had been awhile. This is offered in a 9 oz or 12 ounce portion for a difference of 4 bucks. I ordered the 12 ounce so I'd have one or two more meals later. This comes with a large portion of mashed potatoes with brown gravy and vegetables (carrots and broccoli on the day I was there.) There's also a choice of soup (clam chowder or soup of the day) or salad. The minestrone sounded great, and it was. Very tasty vegetable blend, and this was served with both toast and crackers. Potatoes were good as were the vegetables. The prime rib was not what I'd hoped for. It was a generous cut, but not prepared medium, as ordered. It's my fault; I know to only order prime rib from a place that sells a lot of it, so when it came and was mixed between medium well and well done, I realized my mistake. They served the usual creamy horseradish and au jus, but these and the prime rib itself were not especially tasty, just okay. The service, I want to emphasize, was excellent, but particularly for the price ($37.99) I cannot recommend the prime rib. read more

My daughter and I stopped in here to have a quick breakfast after touring around. I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how good everything truly was. The service was top-notch. Better than some so-called fancier places. We enjoyed biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. My daughter had a strawberry lemonade which came out frozen. Nice surprise she liked it. I definitely want to come back for the Dutch baby pancake. I think they're calling at the German pancake now? They had some fantastic looking potato pancakes as well. Highly recommend. read more

Glad to see Elmer's Tanasbourne now open! Elmer's has taken over the former Shari's location on 185th Ave near Safeway and Trader Joe's. Elmer's is a Denny's type restaurant with much better food, IMHO. It has only been open for a few days now and business seems to be going well. The food and service were good. The only negative I find here is the fact that they do not do take out. Im a fan of take out food after a long day at work. Sometimes you dont feel like sitting in a restaurant. Hope their opening enthusiasm continues. read more

The cinnamon pancakes is a. Must order! It was not too sweet we and honestly you don't even need the syrup. Because the creme in the pancake is just enough. The chicken fried steak is tender and crispy! Gravy gave it a good balance. Thank you tot he staff for accommodating our big party. It was thoughtful of them and made it work. We really appreciated this and also taking the time to sing to our friend's son for his bday. :) Plenty of seats and their new location in Hillsboro is nearby. Pretty good job. Thry are still figuring things out. Our order was incorrect and they were very nice and offered to fix it, but my wife was hungry and just ate it anyway. The fish and chips was what you would expect. Was tasty- not like at the beach, but no complaints. The chowder was ok. Not bad, but not great either. Our server, Holly, was fabulous! Super friendly, attentive, and just awesome to chat with. My husband and I were in town for a wedding when we saw Elmer's. The logo looked familiar. And as soon as we walked in it was confirmed. It's the same Elmer's from back home in Palm Springs. We had no idea there were other locations! The food is excellent, the place is clean, and we understand it's new and they're still figuring things out. We can't complain. Came in on a Thursday for dinner and had a great experience. The remodel looks really good, and I was seated right away by a kind hostess. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. I ordered the fish and chips and they were solid. I also had a Hefeweizen, which was a nice surprise since I did not realize they served beer. I will definitely be back. The breakfast menu especially caught my eye, with lots of items that look worth coming back for. read more

First time trying Elmer's since ive moved here 2 years ago and I really loved it. Ive been to the previous Shari's cafe at this location a couple of times and I really loved that restaurant and I am so glad that Elmer's decided to open here. My wife and I really loved the food. My wife had the Country fried steak and she said it was really good and I had the Rueben sandwich which was also good!. the reason why im giving 5 stars is because of the staff. They were so kind and polite. Especially our waitress Anne. She was so awesome and funny. We ordered the german pancake and wow!! It did not disappoint. It was so delicious!! One of my favorite food i ever ate. The manager Jorge was very polite and professional when our german pancake took a while to arrive but they were very accommodating. The hostess was very nice also. My wife and I will definitely come back. We definitely miss the Shari's cafe but Elmer's cafe is as good!! thank you so much Anne, Jorge and the rest of the staff. We took our family to Elmer's the other day and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. My wife ordered the Dungeness crab eggs Benedict and absolutely loved it, and honestly all of our food was excellent. Our daughters had a great time too, they loved the masks, which was a fun touch. A big shoutout to Jenson, our waitress, who truly made the visit special. She was attentive, checked in often, and made sure our kids were well taken care of, which we really appreciated as parents. Service like that goes a long way. We will definitely be coming back again!! read more

I've been an Oregon native for almost 50 years. We've throughly enjoyed Elmer's for several decades. This Tanasbourne location was the worst experience we've had at an Elmers. I went through two cups of coffee before my wife was served her Pepsi which our server completely forgot to bring. Next, the wait for our food took almost an hour. People who got seated long after us were finishing up their meals and paying their bills before our food came! Finally after the food arrived the order was incorrect. Portions were small, I had the eggs Benedict and it was flavorless. The hollandaise sauce had no flavor whatsoever, the ham was sliced too thick and the egg was overcooked. The hash browns were burnt and tasted like old grease. It's just a shame what's happened to this once beloved NW eatery. I remember how good the food and service was in the 1980s-1990s and this place is way off the mark! Until they get their act together, we will be enjoying the Black Bear Diner which has far superior breakfasts and outstanding service. Mr. Elmer would be ashamed. read more

The service was alright, mistakes were made as expected during a lunch rush but when it comes to 20 dollar meals being inedible it's sad. My mother had the bacon cheeseburger meal and the burger was so greasy the bun was soaked through as-well as undercooked and cold French fries being served in a very small quantity. I had the fish shrimp and chips. The shrimp was fine, perfectly cooked, once again the cold undercooked small amount of fries were disappointing but when I bit into my fried fish I was met with gooey raw batter. I broke open the other two pieces to meet the same goop. The batter was still runny :( The only "fix" that was offered was to give me a total of four extra shrimp.. no discount on the meal as I couldn't enjoy the most expensive portion of it (the fish) or comp. However it was handled kindly by the server. Just sadly disappointing for a 40 dollar meal at a new location. read more

Our steak too 15 minutes and then was blue and extremely undercooked. We sent it back and it didnt come until after everyone else finished eating. The service was not the best. We had two waiters and neither of them communicated with eachother so our food took forever. None of the food had any flavour whatsoever read more
