As Ive said previously, trust is the most important element when selecting a contractor. I…read morerecently had a nightmare experience with a concrete contractor. Luckily, Michael with Ross and Jacks works in conjunction with Louis from Beautiful Stones and they were able to help me out. I had a very unsightly crack in my driveway. Ross and Jacks/Beautiful Stones demoed the existing concrete and laid a fresh concrete driveway. Im very pleased with how it turned out. Furthermore, the cost was competitive.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. My wife and I reached…read moreout to Ross and Jack Landscaping for a straightforward spring clean-up and weekly mowing. What followed was two weeks of Mark, the president, trying to upsell us into a sweeping overhaul of our yard -- framing routine landscaping as urgent "must-dos" to get our house in "working order." In a group chat with my wife and me (which I'm happy to share), Mark pivoted from answering our questions about the quote to bragging about being a "rich guy," lecturing us on wealth, and suggesting we take out a loan to fund more landscaping work with him. That is not a quote I'm paraphrasing for effect -- that is what the president of this company put in writing to a young couple who asked him to mow their lawn. The breaking point: Mark insisted it was mandatory that we let him rip out every bush along the back of our house. When my wife politely asked whether she could try to save them herself this spring and have that line removed from the quote, his response was an attitude shift followed by "I quit" -- at 10 p.m., the night before our $3,000 spring clean-up was scheduled to begin. He has not responded since. I'm a small business owner myself and I do not enjoy writing this. But if you are a homeowner in Elmhurst looking for a landscaper, you deserve to know how this company treats paying customers before you waste your time. Look elsewhere.

What stood out most to me was how seen and heard I felt throughout the project. Dawn took the time to really listen and understand what we were hoping to create and she delivered something more beautiful than we imagined. Her landscape design was so stunning that we're actually planning to frame it, it's truly a work of art! It was also so refreshing to work with a woman-owned business in this industry. I never once felt like I was being upsold or talked down to. She made every effort to work within our budget and I felt respected and included every step of the way. You can tell Dawn genuinely cares about both her clients and her team in the way because of the pride and care that show up in every detail of her work. The crew was friendly, professional, and tidy, and the communication from start to finish was excellent. They worked very efficiently and did a beautiful job bringing the design to life. Every question I had was answered promptly and thoughtfully and I always felt in the loop. I can't recommend Rooted Outdoor Living highly enough. They're a small local team doing incredible, honest, and artistic work. It's the kind of business I'm proud to support and tell everyone about!

We ended up framing the drawings she provided because they we so beautiful! Throughout the project we had a few changes and additions and Dawn was surprisingly accommodating. Her crew did a terrific job and were clean and professional in their work. Rooted Outdoor Living was not the cheapest option we explored, but their professionalism and quality of work made the cost absolutely worth it and I would argue represents a good value for what they provide. We are looking forward to enjoying our new outdoor space for many years.

My contractor who was supposed to put a new deck in my backyard stopped contacting me so I needed help as the staircase back there was already removed from the cement company putting in a new cement patio. I asked Daniel if he knew anyone and he was like yeah we do that too. I was like GREAT! He and the crew handled the project in a couple days and it looks beautiful. I hired Santana's Landscaping to install an underground sump pump discharge line, with the explicit…read moreagreement that the design would prevent any pooling water in my front yard. Unfortunately, the installation completely failed to meet that standard, and the customer service follow-up was non-existent. The discharge point they installed sits in a depression, meaning the water constantly overflows and sheets directly across the public sidewalk instead of draining properly. This created a slip hazard and left a permanent puddle in the yard. Because the water was left to sit stagnant, my grass is now dying and turning orange from iron bacteria. When I reached out to Daniel with photos of the flooding, he told me to 'wait 10 days' for the ground to drain. I waited the full timeframe, but the problem persisted. I reached out multiple times afterward to get a plan together to fix the grading or extend the line. Daniel completely stopped responding and abandoned the project. I am now having to hire a second landscaping company to fix the problem.
