I had high expectations coming to this place consider the great reviews. Everyone there is extremely friendly and the space is aesthetically pleasing. The only problem was the hair cut - the most important thing of all. I had asked for face framing layers, layers all around, and for it to be cut a certain length. It seemed like she had rushed the job and just tried to cut off a couple inches. When she finished the cut she was moving around my hair so much didn't realize the lack of layers and the fact that my hair was still longer than the length I had asked. The haircut was something that I could have done myself and have done the past. The only reason why I wanted to get it cut professionally was for the layers. I feel like there was probably a lack of skill which is aggravating considering the prices they charge. I'm all for getting what you paid for but this place left me feeling jipped. read more

I was lucky enough to find Ello Pretty last year and met Jessica, who is amazing! She does a fabulous job cutting and coloring my hair and is hilarious. I had initially planned to go here once because I live on Nantucket, but felt so welcomed and well-cared for, that I have continued to travel off-island to see Jessica. The salon is in an renovated warehouse/factory space and is open and inviting with a comfy sitting area with couches and a long table with magazines. Long Overdue Review...DISCLAIMER: I am not a regular salon-goer, so I don't have much to compare this to. I got my hair cut and styled for $10 by a family member for 5+ years. I would get a haircut, watch some TV, and just lounge around their house with free food! Then, one day in January, I went to Miami, chopped my very long hair into the cutest pixie, and was searching for a place to maintain my hair in Providence. After failed attempts at 2 other salons, I found Ello Pretty! Just a little ways away from my house, it's a loft turned luxe, full of women that love what they do! My favorite part is not the complementary coffee/water/tea, or how I look when I leave, but the Craftsman drawers the stylists use for their hair tools! So cute, so hip. Decor is chic and cool, but not pretentious! (I can't stand places where you feel like you can't breathe!) Nikki is my stylist and she knows her stuff. Lingo and everything! Plus, she makes my pixie look GREAT every damn time. But, that doesn't stop the other ladies from greeting me, chatting with me, or coming over to see how my haircut is going. It's like a social gathering every time I get my haircut! They are so welcoming. These are women that genuinely want to make you look+feel great and have the knowledge to do so. I had an extremely awful and traumatic experience with none other than the owner of this salon. I had a botched color and extension service. The placement of the tape in was damaging, and the plan was to color the extensions to match my red hair and they cake out dark brown. It's all an extremely long story that ends with me leaving the salon crying with wet hair on my bday cuz they refused to dry it, and I've lost about a third of my own hair. The owner was hostile and mean and will not own up to her mistakes. Yelp won't give me enough space to write the whole story, but I have the detailed story up on instagram, my insta is Buffysumm3rz. I highly recommend going to Ashley at Ello Pretty! This was my second visit with her and from start to finish she was amazing! My first visit she highlighted my hair and got it to the exact blonde I wanted! She's knowledgeable,personable,and truly wants to give you what you want!! Let me start out by saying my regular stylist who I've been going to for years (from elsewhere) is a goddess and I love her. However, our schedules have been out of sync lately which left me with a wandering eye. Lets face facts.... no one likes to look for a new hairstylist but a girl has needs and can only walk around with embarrassing gray hair for so long. After some scouring of Yelp, I found Ello Pretty. I had driven by it on Valley street once before and I thought the space looked pretty cool. After checking out the reviews, I figured I'd give it a whirl. I was able to easily book an appointment online after setting up a brief profile and was able to get an appointment with Casey for the next day. I noticed on the company website that she had an Instagram with some of her work. A lot of what is showcased there is hairstyles which were a little more adventurous than what i was looking for. So, i was a little nervous of the unknown. Casey was professional, efficient with her time, very pleasant, asked great questions, and seemed genuinely interested in giving me a service which I could leave completely satisfied with. Her Instagram page definitely shows her versatility as a stylist but she can also handle plain Janes like me with ease. Judging by her page I'm sure if I wanted some extensions, a rainbow ombre, or a balayage she'd probably be awesome at that too. The online booking system said that a color/cut would take about 2 hours and Casey was able to come in under the wire. My single process color was on for about a half hour after applied, then I got a great cut for my curly tresses and a fantastic blow out. If given the chance i'd definitely return. read more

I'm really pleased with the haircut Mackenzie gave me! I have thin, medium length hair, and Mackenzie knew exactly what to do -- and what not to do -- to make sure we could keep the length, get the ends healthier, and emphasize the layers. I appreciated that she had ideas on how to best maximize the look of my hair. I got lots of compliments when I got home. While they are busy, they're also pretty flexible and easy to book so I can usually get an appointment within a week or so. Jessica is amazing! As a newbie to Providence, I happened to drive by Ello Pretty, thought it was cute, and decided to hit up yelp before making an appointment. Since both stylists had rave reviews, I chose Jessica because well, we have the same name :D I'm sure Nicole would have done a great job as well, but Jessica was awesome! First off, my hair is just a tad high maintenance; it's long, thick, and a lil wavy: a stylist's nightmare. First, Jess washed, brushed it out, and cut it. Then, after a thorough blow dry (with the thickest hair on earth, this took almost an hour), she went layer by layer and thinned out my hair and then, put some long layers in it to lighten it up even more! It felt AMAZING! She insisted on finishing it up with a flat iron, and it laid perfectly. After two grueling hours of work, my hair was beautiful! And it takes me about 1/2 the time it used to do it in the morning! I love, love, love it! Not only did I get a fabulous hair cut, as a new Providence resident, she told me all the best places to go for dinner, coffee, and even local produce! Jessica, can we be best friends!?! lol All of this for... $40... Are you kidding me!?! Best deal in town! I will definitely be paying this place regular visits. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough. It's in a restored mill and is so chic and open and bright. The owner was so helpful when I called and listened to my hair woes then paired me with Shannon! I just went in for a cut but she took her time, basically massaged my scalp when washing my hair. She fixed my horrible past hair cut perfectly, gave me exactly what I wanted, and I feel like I barely had to explain. She just knew! And! Not only did she blow out my hair, she took the time to curl it. We spoke the whole time and she was so personable and made me feel so welcome! This is my new hair salon for good! I've been won over. I've been here 3 times and so far, so good! The staff is super friendly and they do great work. I had highlights done by Casey and I loved that she took the time to do a full consultation with me. It did take a long time (~4 hrs) but I was very happy with the result. They have free wifi for guests so next time I will just bring my laptop and work while my highlights are cooking. I also had a blowout and a cut with Nikki and I was super pleased. She understood how to handle my curly hair, and she had me check my cut thoroughly after to make sure I was happy (my previous cut from another salon was not to my standards). She was also really fun to talk to, which I appreciate because every time I have a service done it's 2+ hours and sitting in silence blows. The only thing that could be a negative to some folks: this place can get loud. The stylists are all really good friends and they talk as they work, which is fun for me to listen to but I can see some clients getting annoyed by it. Prices are higher than what I paid at another salon in the area-- I paid $150 for painted highlights and a blowout, and $60 for a cut & blowout. But you get your money's worth since the quality is so good! The way Casey did my highlights, they will grow out nicely and I'll be able to go longer between touch-ups. I went from a dark brown to silver with Katie, and she was wonderful! The process took 6 hours and she wouldn't let me leave till she was happy with it, which made me happy. All the ladies over there were just lovely and provided water, tea and snacks. The space is gorgeous and there's a bunch of parking for the building across the street. I did a follow up cut with Katie and it's exactly what I was hoping for. I discovered this place today while looking for a salon close enough to work to pop in on my lunch break. Not only were they able to accommodate me on incredibly short notice, I was there, washed and blow dried perfectly and back at work in less than 45 mins. I was thrilled. I loved my stylist at Ello Pretty she was great, however as I'm in the middle of a busy season at work I made a human error and missed my appointment. When they called looking for me I immediately called back and told them how mortified I was and that I thought my appointment was for the next week. Come to find out I'm charged the full amount of my hair which is the policy but where is that stated only on their site and I didn't know since I went there via word of mouth and every dealing was on the phone. I mentioned I had to cancel due to finances and they at no time told me I was still being charged, at no time did they say reschedule your appointment and this is a credit towards that to help offset the loss of a hundreds of dollars for no reason. They said they called me multiple times with voicemails- they did not, nor did I receive a text which they said was suspcious, but why would I lie, not in my DNA. PSA -I would recommend for your hair but YOU NEED TO BE AWARE THEY WILL NOT NEGOTIATE FOR HUMAN ERROR, AND THEY WILL SCREEN YOUR CALLS. I left 2 voicemails and had one conversation with a stylist and no one called me back. I had to use a different number to get in contact with them in order to even discuss the charge on my card and to cancel my future appointments. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE. read more

More importantly, the ladies who own and operate this little gem are true salt of the earth type ladies. I've instantly liked everyone I've met here, and that almost never happens to me. Based on photos and reviews, it seemed like Elyse would be the best fit for my hair type and the look I was trying to get. Elyse is truly amazing... Not only did she fix up my bad cut, she also did a ton of hair painting to get me to the ashy cool blonde I've been trying to get for almost 2 years now. Do not use this company! BEWARE They totally screwed over my fiance months before our wedding! She had confirmed months ago that they would be doing her hair for our wedding, so we thought we were all set. When she called today to get more details and arrange a down payment (3 months before the big day) she was told they told her the could "no longer accommodate" our wedding because not ALL of the bridesmaids would be using Ello Pretty for hair. This is ridiculous! We are paying customers who had booked months ago and now my fiance must find new arrangements for her (and other bridesmaids) hair. What a terrible company- total junk. Wish I could have gotten the Brazilian blowout I booked almost a month in advance in preparation for my wedding. Less than 45 minutes before my appt, I received a call that Jessica was running behind. Cool, no probs, I thought I would just need to come in a bit later. Silly me. Instead, I got shafted and was told she was handing me off to someone else. I am admittedly picky when it comes to my hair (I do a ton of research before choosing a hair professional), so no, I didn't appreciate being casually passed off to someone about whom I knew nothing. Especially for a VERY expensive, semi-permanent treatment...this isn't your run of the mill haircut, folks. I tried to reschedule for another date but nothing worked (not their fault but, given that this wasn't my fault, I naively expected that Jessica would have offered to accommodate me later today). To make matters worse, I have my wedding hair and makeup trials in Texas in 2 weeks and my hair won't have the treatment I needed.
