Wow, wow, wow! We visited family in Big Sky for Thanksgiving and had dessert from Elle Belles. My uncle was so excited to share their delicious baked goods with us and I totally get why! The apple pie may have been the best we've ever had. The apples were thinly sliced into what can best be described as ribbons, with a flaky crust that melted in your mouth. We also had the huckleberry cheesecake. Huckleberry is native to Montana and this cheesecake was packed with the most delicious, rich flavor without being overly sugary. It was literally perfect! I could have easily eaten a second piece. In general, my family was just so enchanted with the delicious desserts and I hope to stop in in-person next time I'm here! read more

Really wanted to like this place, but had two straight bad experiences. The first was buying their cookies at a market in Bozeman, and they were hard as a rock. The second time we made a large cookie order for a party, and they weren't done at the time we were told they'd be done. Not a big deal, but annoying. We then got them, and they were packaged well, but again the cookies were dry and hard. Maybe I just had back-to-back bad experiences, because it seems like most people like them, but I won't be going back again. Based on the cost, this feels very overrated. read more

A box of strawberry rhubarb pies showed up on my doorstep in San Diego as a surprise from my work. People in CA (most, anyway) don't have any clue what rhubarb is. I haven't had a pie in YEARS and the first bite of this took me right back to my childhood. These pies were packaged SO well and even after the thousands of miles and being (I'm sure) tossed around from delivery truck to delivery truck, made it to me in perfect condition. I couldn't be more grateful to find Elle's Belles! I was extremely stressed searching for a bakery in a city I had never been before for a perfect cake in celebration of my best friend's 40th birthday. I frantically called on a Thursday before hitting the road for a Tuesday morning pick up and couldn't really articulate what I wanted (I confess, I'm not a sweets person) and thankfully Jennifer was patient, helpful and friendly. Through a series of questions and my ramblings, we agreed to an almond flour cake with raspberries and white chocolate inside, fresh flowers and gold fondant drip on the outside to make it the most delicious and most beautiful cake I've ever tasted or seen. Elle's Belles did the wedding cake and desserts at our daughter's recent wedding at a ranch north of Big Timber, Mt. They were fabulous--both in terms of taste AND in terms of presentation. I will never forget going to an Elle tasting with my daughter. She had a big tray in front of her on which she had placed all sorts of options for the wedding cake icing, filling and cake itself. She had us taste European chocolate, ganache, hazelnut, and on and on. There must have been 30 different options offered! In the end, my daughter picked a lemon and blueberry-infused filling and smooth vanilla icing. It was out of this world. And Elle spent hours arranging a dessert table of goodies surrounding the cake itself. She was still there finishing up when we all came down from the wedding ceremony on the hill. Oh my goodness, the raspberry vanilla crumpets or croissant muffins ( whatever they call them) are to DIE for!! Imagine croissant dough wrapped around the best pastry cream and raspberry jamy you've had in your life and you are there! We had to go back the next day and get more before we went back home to Portland. The savory croissants were also fabulous, and everything else in there pasty case looked amazing. So I was relocating from Minneapolis, MN to Monterey, CA with 2 cats and knew I'd be spending my 35th birthday at a Day's Inn in Bozeman, MT. My boyfriend, already in Monterey, called Elle's Belles and asked them to go above and beyond as a surprise for me, delivering a small cake to the hotel for me to receive upon check-in. Arriving at the very busy hotel, disheveled and feeling sorry for myself, it was finally my turn to check-in to my room. The front desk clerk retrieved this absolutely beautiful chocolate cake covered in fresh raspberries and a lovely birthday greeting written in frosting. The gesture alone made my day. But the actual cake itself was so amazing! I'd recommend this bakery on the awesome service alone, but good grief was that cake delicious. Love love love this bakery. I took the cake on the road with me to my next stop in Elko, NV and probably ultimately consumed more cake than anyone spending hours sitting in a car should consume. But it was worth every calorie. read more

My experience with Elle's Belles was terrible. I was married in June of this year, and contacted Elle last October for a tasting. We wanted gluten free desserts and Elle was the only local baker we could find to do this. I struggled to get a proposal or cost information from Elle, up until weeks before the wedding. While extremely frustrating and stressful to have to finalize details so late, we still wanted to use her. Elle called the week of the wedding to talk through everything - there was a refrigerator onsite, so she wanted to put the desserts in there until around dinner so they didn't melt. She then asked if I had anyone attending that could move my cake from the fridge to the cake stand. I said no. She said she would ask my caterer to do it. Or that she might send someone that was working for her out to do it. The day of the wedding, someone must have stuck the cakes in the fridge very early in the day, because when we arrived hours before, they were already there. Turns out, Elle forgot an entire chocolate grooms cake AND completely frosted my tiered cake when I requested a naked cake. We called Elle - her answer was to cut the cakes we had into smaller pieces. She was rude and her apology was not at all sincere. She was annoyed we even called her to tell her of her mistake. She also never coordinated moving the cake with my caterer, but luckily they were wonderful and helped with everything. Elle's Belles has some good products - however, our frosted cake's frosting was heavy with lard or something similar and was not good at all (which is why I wanted a naked cake - I had tasted that frosting of hers before and didn't want it). Her customer service is severely lacking - maybe she has so many customers it doesn't matter if she ruins an order or two, but it was a terrible stress to have on our wedding day. read more

I'm probably biased but this place is amazing. Most cake bakeries make goods that either taste amazing and look kinda bad or look incredible but taste horrible. Elle somehow does both. Her artistry is wonderful and her level of perfection is unparalleled, and on top of that everything she makes tastes AMAZING. Elle's creation for a surprise twins baby shower was simply amazing! Incredible fondant and display of artistry for our Dr Seuss themed cake. Not inexpensive, but worth every cent. Delicious, moist layers of dark chocolate and vanilla cake, with fabulous buttercream in between. Elle's staff was also excellent to work with and delivered the cake to our venue at no extra charge. We recently had Elle do a dessert table for our wedding. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL...!! I really appreciate Elle's (and her staff's) aesthetic and taste level. I "heard" it was delicious, as well. My family & I love Elle's Belles! I just ordered my 3rd cake...it's become a bit of a "birthday tradition" in our house. I order one 6" cake (which is the smallest cake she offers) and have always received excellent service from Elle directly. The first cake that I ordered was a b-day surprise for my husband just after our first daughter was born. I had no car, limited walking range, a small infant in toe, and was trying desperately to keep this a surprise. Well, Elle delivered the cake to me at the hotel we were staying in on the day of! It was a total success & I couldn't have pulled it off without Elle's help. And the cake was AMAZING...extremely memorable (obviously). It was a Blueberry Lemon Love - love at first sight. Our 2nd cake was for our oldest daughter's 4th b-day. She is obsessed with strawberries so Elle did a twist on the Blueberry Lemon Love...it was a Strawberry Vanilla Lemon Love and again, a total success. We were NOT disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed every last bite. We just got our 3rd cake on Friday to celebrate our youngest's 3rd b-day. It was a Blanc Noir...Elle exceeded our expectations! It was covered with rainbow sprinkles and she added a special touch, chocolate mousse. I paid the $30 on my Visa but the cake itself, priceless! See the pics for yourself...too bad you can't taste it too, but you sure could use your imagination. I am OCD so not seeing a pic of the cake ahead of time would normally drive me crazy. However, with Elle's Belles it's different. I trust her. She has very classy taste that suits me well. So, I am always overly excited to receive the cake because I never know what it's going to look like...and it's always a very, very pleasant surprise! We love your cakes, Elle! I wish there was a way to give zero stars. Yes, Elle's creations are delicious. But, her business practices are completely unsavory. I had been a great customer over the years, so when we had family coming to town for the 4th of July, I called Elle and placed an order for 5 pies and 2 dozen whoopie pies. She asked me to send her a check and told me my order would be ready for pick up at her commercial kitchen by 5 pm on the 3rd. When I went to pick up my order, the kitchen was locked up tight with no one there. I tried to contact Elle without success so left her several voicemails over the next few days and went back to the kitchen twice, also without success. Since I never heard back from Elle, I was concerned something was wrong and hoped everything was ok. After several days of no return phone call, I called Elle again on the 7th and she answered on the first ring. When I asked her what happened, she was very apologetic and explained that she had gotten overwhelmed with completing wedding orders before she was heading off the grid for the holiday weekend, but had made my pies and had given instructions to someone else to be there so I could pick them up, but that person never showed, etc. I was understanding and not angry; mistakes happen. She insisted that she give me the pies anyway because they were already made. I told her my family was gone and I really didn't need 5 pies and 2 dozen whoopie pies anymore and that I would just like a refund. She said not only would she give me a refund, but she would give the pies to me at no cost and have them delivered to my house. While I appreciated the gesture, I told her it was unnecessary. She insisted because she appreciated "how cool" I was over the whole thing. I just wanted a refund. But she was insistent about giving me my order. I told her I would even pay for half of my order because I didn't expect to get something for nothing, and she said no, I will absolutely give you a refund. That's where things took a turn. Someone did drop the 3-day-old pies at my house, but I never got a refund or the whoopie pies I ordered. After emails back and forth promising to resolve the issue in a manner I "so rightfully deserve," I didn't get a penny back of my nearly $125 order, and she didn't return voicemails. I even saw her at the grocery store a year after this whole thing happened and she pretended like she didn't see me. I can only assume she doesn't have the $ to refund, but don't say you will do something and not follow through. Had she been honest with me, I am sure we could have figured something out. Lying to your customers and then basically stealing their $ isn't good business practice. I won't purchase anything from her ever again. There are plenty of talented bakers in the Bozeman area who create delicious desserts AND keep their word. read more

I had reached out over a month in advance for a birthday day, but with no luck. Poor customer service. If you're that busy, hire more people or turn down requests immediately. Two and a half months went by, calling and emailing frequently trying to get that quote and never heard back. Finally, last week, she called and told me she'd lost all of her files, and that she'd recover them. Haven't heard from her since, and I can't keep wasting time. I had heard many great things about Elle's Belles and someone recommended we use this bakery for my wedding. We decided that we would just order 250 cookies from Elle's Belles because we were going to get the cake from a family friend. This was "not a problem", according to Elle. Later, we decided that we didn't want to be hauling a cake to Bozeman, so we asked Elle to also do a cake. It took a few weeks to get a hold of anyone, and I had to reach out in order to get anyone to talk with me. After finally speaking with someone, they wanted to charge $900 for a cake to serve 100 or so guests. This price was outside of our budget for the wedding, so I asked Elle if she we could just do the cookies, instead, and that I would get my cake from someone else (like we had planned originally). Elle called me a few days later (first time actually speaking with her on the phone). She told me that she refused to bake the cookies because I was working with another vendor that would be doing cupcakes. She told me that she didn't want someone asking where the cupcakes were from, and then people assuming the cookies were also from the same vendor...yet this was never an issue at the beginning of the summer when I placed my original cookie order? I have never had someone be so rude to me on the phone and was shocked that anyone would turn down business. I suggest that you try giving some other Bozeman bakeries your time and money. Everyone else I have worked with (Cupcake Mountain, Sweet Pea, Sola) has been BEYOND helpful and friendly. read more
