Alpine Veterinary Hospital - Dr. VIRK and Buddy, my 17 year old Miniature Pincher

Historically I've always seen Dr. Freeman, unless he's out. Mostly because of the reptile/small critter specialty we've needed, and the trust we've built all these years. Ive had some great experiences with Dr. Virk lately, and he's done a great job for my animals and has earned my trust too. Figaro got some antibiotics, some fluids and a dewormer. I asked if I could please purchase liquid dewormer for my other cats so I can do them all at the same time when I get home. Dr. Virk approved this, which I really appreciated. Made my life much so much easier considering it's a real MF trying to give my cats the dewormer tablets I have. A REAL MF. When the tech was returning Figaro back to me, I heard him singing "Figaro! Figaro!" in the hallway and that made my day. Totally made me laugh. It's the little things .

JUSTICE FOR BABY! VIRK lied about cancer, killed my dog…read morewithout permission. Necropsy proves it! On March 3, 2025, I brought my dog, Baby, to Alpine Hospital because she was unable to urinate and had a full bladder. Dr. Virk examined her and without presenting any diagnostic evidence, insisted that she had a tumor. He told me the tumor he seen on the x-ray was the size of a grapefruit. He said it could be cancer or pyometria but wouldn't know until he got in there to see. Despite my clear instructions not to proceed with euthanasia even if it was cancer, he euthanized her without my consent and without notifying me afterwards. I told him I wanted a second opinion and we were going to do a home euthanasia. He told me approximately six times to say goodbye to her and I refused because even if it was cancer, I was going to pick her back up.. I also have a video of me in the office talking to him I felt so uneasy with how many times he insisted to say goodbye. I have a video telling her I was picking her back up, I promised her. Before he walked out the office he told me "her surgery is tomorrow, if it is bad I'll let you know and we'll make a decision on the table." He knew the answer would have still been NO! I never signed any papers agreeing to euthanasia. Virk didn't even call me to ask and he didn't even call me to tell me she was gone. He offered a free cremation and I refused because that drew a red flag. I picked her body up and A necropsy was performed by a specialist, a very known and respected Doctor, Dr Evans. The results confirmed that Baby did NOT HAVE CANCER. Additionally, her X-rays showed NO tumors, and her bloodwork was normal. Dr. Virk never showed me these results prior to the procedure. Instead, he repeatedly pressured me to euthanize her, falsely claiming that she had a tumor. When she only had an enlarged bladder from not urinating. He even insisted that I take her home that night to say goodbye to her before the procedure, despite my explicit instructions. I left her because I was picking her up REGARDLESS. it wasn't goodbye. Furthermore, Dr. Virk attempted to spay Baby without my consent and left the procedure unfinished. The necropsy revealed a 1-inch hole in her bladder with 3 inches of stitches under it from his work. Which was never in his notes of his findings after surgery nor was ever mentioned to me when I called and demanded answers. There is no explanation for why he would begin an unauthorized spay procedure on a dog that was brought in for urinary issues. Adding to the severity of this case, Dr. Virk falsified medical records by documenting that I agreed to euthanasia, which I absolutely did not. Multiple people, including myself, explicitly told him that if cancer was suspected, he should close her up so we could seek a second opinion before considering euthanasia. He ignored these instructions. After Baby's death, Dr. Virk attempted to shift blame onto me, stating that her condition was due to "neglect" because she hadn't urinated for two days--the very reason I brought her in for urgent medical care. His failure to diagnose and treat her appropriately, his unauthorized medical procedures, and his ultimate decision to euthanize her without consent amount to serious misconduct. I just recently rescued Baby a few weeks ago, as I'm crying on the phone with VIRK demanding answers after I found out he euthanized her, Dr VIRK said "didn't you just rescue her 3 weeks ago?". I'm sorry WHAT!? What does that matter!? That was my baby! I am already requesting a formal investigation into Dr. Virk's conduct and appropriate disciplinary action, including revocation of his veterinary license. I'm taking Legal action and pressing charges. This was not an isolated mistake; it was a deliberate act of medical malpractice, deception, and unauthorized euthanasia. I have supporting evidence, including: * Necropsy report and live video confirming no cancer and unfinished spay attempt. * X-rays and bloodwork showing no tumor or signs of cancer. * Medical records falsely stating that I consented to euthanasia and she in fact never had a tumor. * Witnesses to explicit instructions not to euthanize regardless. * Voicemail from Dr VIRK letting me know she was gone due to bladder cancer that spread. And much more. MANY falsified records from both Alpine and jelly's place. Dr. Virk's actions were unethical, unlawful, and deeply traumatizing. I trusted this hospital with my dogs life, and instead, my dog was wrongfully killed under his care. I urge the Veterinary Medical Board to hold him accountable and prevent him from harming other animals and pet owners.

From the moment I called and then when we arrived shortly after, they were caring, understanding, and genuinely invested in Duke's well-being. The clinic itself was pristine, and even though there were a lot of animals being triaged when we were there, the environment did not seem chaotic at all. They ran everything so efficiently. The team reallt went above and beyond to help ease my nerves, explaining everything in a very calm, thorough, and easy-to-understand way. Having that level of clear communication and compassion during a scary moment made all the difference. I am so grateful to everyone there and would highly, highly recommend them. Thank you!

What used to feel like a place focused on helping animals now feels rushed, impersonal, and centered around pushing medication rather than providing thoughtful, compassionate solutions. Throughout my experience, there seemed to be very little effort to discuss alternative options or genuinely address the root of my dog's issues. Instead, the only solutions presented involved continuously prescribing more medication without much explanation or care for long-term wellbeing. What was even more frustrating was being charged a "service fee" that staff could not clearly explain when asked. If clients are expected to pay additional fees, there should at minimum be transparency and professionalism regarding what those charges are actually for. I understand veterinary medicine is difficult and clinics are busy, but compassion, communication, and honesty should still be basic standards of care. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unheard, overcharged, and far less confident in the clinic than I once was. Stay away from this place.

It was a very difficult and vulnerable time for us, and every single worker was patient and compassionate. Prior to his euthanasia appointment, the doctors and vet assistants worked closely with us for weeks and ensured every test and every option was considered to determine a strong diagnosis. During this process, not ONCE did they push euthanasia.. they left it up to us to decide that which is something we appreciated very much. They reassured us that they were able to be reached via email, text and/or call to update them on Kitty's treatment at any time. They were responsive and on top of every little thing. Of course, Kitty was a 16 year old bombay and could not function like a normal cat any longer even with the extensive treatment that was prescribed to us. His health deteriorated rapidly due to his illness (hyperthyroidism) that not even the medicine could treat. We then had to make one of the hardest decisions of our lives to put him down so he can finally live a life of peace. Thank you to the health care team (Dr. Narg, Sheila, Leah, Marissa, and many more) for treating Kitty, my partner and I with so much tender care and I will never forget how comfortable you all made us feeling during this very hard transition. If you are ever considering euthanasia, or even just in need of general care for your furry friend(s), do not hesitate and come here. Again, thank you Sun Valley Pet Hospital for peacefully opening the sky gates for my baby boy.

This is something no one ever wants to do, but if we bring furbabies into our hearts and homes, we'll likely have to do it at some point. The last thing I wanted to do was to traumatize my terminally ill kitty with a car ride to a cold, sterile vet's office (no offense to any vets) like I've had to in the past. After doing research, Dr. Noe was reasonably priced (although that's not necessarily super important in these situations), quick to respond, professional, and compassionate. She clearly explained what would be happening and allowed us to set the pace. Nothing happened until we were ready - including our final goodbye. Even better, when it was finally time to leave, Frankie was placed into a basket and tucked in with a blanket he would've loved. His passing was peaceful, respectful and surrounded by love. **The photo I'm attaching is him before they left. He looks like he's taking a quiet nap and I'm so happy to remember him this way.**

Best thing that ever happened was going to Sage as pepper got the care she needed by Vet- Lindsay Swirble. She is the only vet we have gone to in Bay Area that actually has experience with pugs. Dr. Linsey Swirble saved my dog (pepper)with her caring, throughness and experience. My dogs vet would not of even had the required equipment in their office or experience that she had a foxtail (1 inch) lodged behind her eye. She examined my dog with such care even putting dye and a black light to check for laceration. My previous pug lost his eye because a laceration was missed from a bad examination until I took him to an eye specialist a week later who said it was too late and it could of been fixed if diagnosed sooner. If I had taken that dog to Dr. Linsey Swirble at sage I know he would of also had his eye today as my dear pepper . I will drive 2 hours to see her from now on just to get the right care. I have had many dogs and vets over the years and this doctor is the best. She treated my dog like she was her own child. If you think its expensive to get ER care it was not. It was about $60 more then regular vet visit but it got fixed right away, correctly. My dogs eye is worth far more than $60. They have equipment that regular clinics do not and have the best veterinarian in Bay Area Dr. Lindsay Swirble. My only regret was not taking my previous dog there who did lose his eye by 2 regular vet visits that charged and misdiagnosed when I know Dr. Swirble would of known how to fix him the first time by her thoroughness and caring before that dog lost an eye. If you are in doubt if the cost will be too much or the care is any good don't hesitate. Dr. Swirble is amazing and I will go when she is working to make sure my dogs are in good hands. Take your dog there. Also, there was an ophthalmologist in house Dr. Tomo wiggans who was fantastic and together fixed my little pepper

They worked up an estimate that was quite large. The estimate had a low end and high end numbers. Veronica sat with me and explained each charge along with how and when it may apply. We played around with the numbers to help us fit it within an easier budget. Veronica was very thorough, patient and informative. My baby was sick so we had to do something. I left my pet with them to be treated while hospitalized. Unfortunately, I did not know exactly how sick she was. Within a matter of a short period, diagnostics came in with not so good news that left us with two options. Neither of which I was prepared for. After hearing the extent of my babies sickness, it was evident we needed to set her free. As painful as those words and that decision was, it had to be done. We drove back to that hospital to be with our baby. Sage has a special room just for the letting go process. Although we were not ready to say goodbye, we appreciated the quick return on labs and such, that gave us the answers needed to make the right decision for our girl. If you have been trying and struggling to piecemeal answers for your ill pet, I'd suggest going to this one stop shop. They have the doctors, staff, equipment and specialists on hand to get you the answers your pet and your family deserves. We love you Tabitha and miss you greatly. You were a very special, sweet, loving pup that contributed so much to everyone you met.

Alexa was our cats' "main" sitter but Kaitlin also stopped by a couple of times when Alexa wasn't available. We had the opportunity meet both Alexa and Kaitlin in person before we departed, and Tomiko also came by to make sure everything would run smoothly in our absence. I am pretty organized and had typed up instructions already for Alexa and Kaitlin, but Tomiko had a very detailed checklist that she also went through with me to make sure nothing was overlooked. I really appreciated that. We got texts with pictures and updates on our cats at every visit, which we also really appreciated. Our cats are very shy and skittish with strangers, so we got to hear how they were warming up to Alexa and Kaitlin at each visit. That was such a comfort to us!
