Me again. lol. As a reminder I have 9 pets. All go to Alpine. Today was Figaro's turn, tummy ache and loose stools for a few days that never let up or got better. Today we saw Dr. Virk. Historically I've always seen Dr. Freeman, unless he's out. Mostly because of the reptile/small critter specialty we've needed, and the trust we've built all these years. Ive had some great experiences with Dr. Virk lately, and he's done a great job for my animals and has earned my trust too. Figaro got some antibiotics, some fluids and a dewormer. I asked if I could please purchase liquid dewormer for my other cats so I can do them all at the same time when I get home. Dr. Virk approved this, which I really appreciated. Made my life much so much easier considering it's a real MF trying to give my cats the dewormer tablets I have. A REAL MF. When the tech was returning Figaro back to me, I heard him singing "Figaro! Figaro!" in the hallway and that made my day. Totally made me laugh. It's the little things . read more

JUSTICE FOR BABY! VIRK lied about cancer, killed my dog without permission. Necropsy proves it! On March 3, 2025, I brought my dog, Baby, to Alpine Hospital because she was unable to urinate and had a full bladder. Dr. Virk examined her and without presenting any diagnostic evidence, insisted that she had a tumor. He told me the tumor he seen on the x-ray was the size of a grapefruit. He said it could be cancer or pyometria but wouldn't know until he got in there to see. Despite my clear instructions not to proceed with euthanasia even if it was cancer, he euthanized her without my consent and without notifying me afterwards. I told him I wanted a second opinion and we were going to do a home euthanasia. He told me approximately six times to say goodbye to her and I refused because even if it was cancer, I was going to pick her back up.. I also have a video of me in the office talking to him I felt so uneasy with how many times he insisted to say goodbye. I have a video telling her I was picking her back up, I promised her. Before he walked out the office he told me "her surgery is tomorrow, if it is bad I'll let you know and we'll make a decision on the table." He knew the answer would have still been NO! I never signed any papers agreeing to euthanasia. Virk didn't even call me to ask and he didn't even call me to tell me she was gone. He offered a free cremation and I refused because that drew a red flag. I picked her body up and A necropsy was performed by a specialist, a very known and respected Doctor, Dr Evans. The results confirmed that Baby did NOT HAVE CANCER. Additionally, her X-rays showed NO tumors, and her bloodwork was normal. Dr. Virk never showed me these results prior to the procedure. Instead, he repeatedly pressured me to euthanize her, falsely claiming that she had a tumor. When she only had an enlarged bladder from not urinating. He even insisted that I take her home that night to say goodbye to her before the procedure, despite my explicit instructions. I left her because I was picking her up REGARDLESS. it wasn't goodbye. Furthermore, Dr. Virk attempted to spay Baby without my consent and left the procedure unfinished. The necropsy revealed a 1-inch hole in her bladder with 3 inches of stitches under it from his work. Which was never in his notes of his findings after surgery nor was ever mentioned to me when I called and demanded answers. There is no explanation for why he would begin an unauthorized spay procedure on a dog that was brought in for urinary issues. Adding to the severity of this case, Dr. Virk falsified medical records by documenting that I agreed to euthanasia, which I absolutely did not. Multiple people, including myself, explicitly told him that if cancer was suspected, he should close her up so we could seek a second opinion before considering euthanasia. He ignored these instructions. After Baby's death, Dr. Virk attempted to shift blame onto me, stating that her condition was due to "neglect" because she hadn't urinated for two days--the very reason I brought her in for urgent medical care. His failure to diagnose and treat her appropriately, his unauthorized medical procedures, and his ultimate decision to euthanize her without consent amount to serious misconduct. I just recently rescued Baby a few weeks ago, as I'm crying on the phone with VIRK demanding answers after I found out he euthanized her, Dr VIRK said "didn't you just rescue her 3 weeks ago?". I'm sorry WHAT!? What does that matter!? That was my baby! I am already requesting a formal investigation into Dr. Virk's conduct and appropriate disciplinary action, including revocation of his veterinary license. I'm taking Legal action and pressing charges. This was not an isolated mistake; it was a deliberate act of medical malpractice, deception, and unauthorized euthanasia. I have supporting evidence, including: * Necropsy report and live video confirming no cancer and unfinished spay attempt. * X-rays and bloodwork showing no tumor or signs of cancer. * Medical records falsely stating that I consented to euthanasia and she in fact never had a tumor. * Witnesses to explicit instructions not to euthanize regardless. * Voicemail from Dr VIRK letting me know she was gone due to bladder cancer that spread. And much more. MANY falsified records from both Alpine and jelly's place. Dr. Virk's actions were unethical, unlawful, and deeply traumatizing. I trusted this hospital with my dogs life, and instead, my dog was wrongfully killed under his care. I urge the Veterinary Medical Board to hold him accountable and prevent him from harming other animals and pet owners. read more

He ended up having conjunctivitis in his left eye & Dr. Freeman was straight to the point, didn't pressure us into any other treatments, vaccinations etc. which is amazing especially with how expensive it is to even live nowadays. I trusted Dr. Virk until I took my 2year old cat to him for vomiting and lethargy, he ran tests and said he was dehydrated, gave him fluids and sent him home. no testing to see the cause of dehydration (I have 4 cats, how is it only he is dehydrated). Instead of finding the cause he kept prescribing different medications, which also caused dehydration. 2 weeks later my Joey died of kidney failure due to dehydration. I've been going to Alpine for 10+ years. Not sure what's happened in the last week, but I can't get a phone call back (I've left at least 4 voice mails since 5/27). Two of my pets were scheduled for tooth extractions, but no one ever called to give me feedback on preparations for surgery (which is usually important, when pets go under). Worst part is, I now have to take my pets to another vet, and pay ANOTHER consultation fee (2x, since it's 2 pets). I am concerned they're under staffed if they can't bother to call for surgery instructions or to return one phone call. read more

I am grateful to Dr Virk and staff for saving my girls life. She had a horrible condition call rectal prolapse. I wasn't able to find a veterinarian who would see her in my local area. A friend suggested Alpine and mentioned Dr. Virk would see urgent care patients. They took her in had me sign a bunch of papers. She had an emergency surgery that day. I took in some feral cats, one unfortunately missing an eye due to unknown causes. I took him in after getting a same day appointment. I regretfully can't recall the name of the woman that got us checked in(she's blonde & super nice), but once she got us checked in, the vet tech Jesse brought us back to an exam room. I believe he was in training but I didn't realize that until later bc he was so great in the initial consult/exam. The Dr. came in & went over my concerns & took time to explain all the different scenarios of what the cause of concern might be. Alpine Vet is the best vet ever! They have treated my lab and my Frenchie! Both doctors are very attentive and have helped my Frenchie multiple times! So kind and caring! My wife and I rescued a dog from China. They scheduled an appointment for her spayed at this veterinary. Once my dog and I arrived at the office. The staff at the front desk were chatting while I was just standing there waiting. I thought it was unprofessional with no greeting at all. Once checked in, we had to wait about 15-20 mins until our appointment. They took so long because the lady told me they were having trouble verifying our dog's adoption company. The tech arrived and took us in the room to explain the treatment. My dog is a people person and very lovable, but there was no emotion from the tech or any of the staff. I've been to other vets where they actually pet dogs and are very affectionate. The stitches were supposed to be removed after 2 weeks, but was delayed a few days because Dr. Virk had COVID. I don't understand they don't even have another veterinarian to remove the stiches? We had no choice but to come here, but it was the very last time. read more

STAY AWAY - Dr. Freeman's incompetence killed my dog Molly. - Dr. Virk was put on probation in 2020 for 3 years and in Nov 2025 another complaint has been filed by the California medical board and attorney general to remove his license. Please find a different doctor or if you have to go here, please research every single medication and procedure they recommend. I brought Molly in due to acute physical pain in her kidney abdomen area - Her blood tests results showed problems in her kidneys (high BUN creatinine, phosphorus, etc) He prescribed - Rimadyl (non-steroid anti inflammatory) - this medication will critically impair a dog with kidney problems. 2 days later when I took her to sage emergency - the doctor was shocked that she would be prescribed this medicine as it makes kidneys much worse and is counter-indicated for dogs with kidney problems - this is common knowledge among vets - even the receptionist at sage knew this medication shouldn't be prescribed. Please research this medicine if it prescribed to your dog Rimadyl works fast to destroy the kidneys and I had to put Molly to sleep due to internal bleeding in kidneys. and severe loss of blood. This medicine also caused Molly to vomit, lose her appetite, sleep constantly and not go to the bathroom. read more

I have been going to this vet for approx 25 yrs. Dr Virk and Dr Freeman are great. Linda (manager) really helped me understand the ins and outs of owning a small business in these tough times. No one answers the phones! When they do they don't identify the business! I called and could not hear the girl who answered the phone. It sounded like someone just mumbled hello. So I said hello multiple times. No answer. She then answered and then we went back and forth saying hello. She sounded like she was just muttering. Then I had to ask her if this was Alpine Veterinary hospital. She said yes with a bit of snark. I asked her how much a procedure was. She was quiet and then said she would have to go ask somebody. She came back and mumbled something. I could not understand her so I asked her to repeat herself and she no longer responded to me. I said I didn't hear her and asked her to repeat herself again. Still no answer. I said hello about four or five times with no response. She had hung up on me. So this is the experience that Alpine Veterinary Hospital offers now. Their new staff is absolutely horrendous. Customer service is definitely lacking. Reception used to be amazing just a few months ago. I am noticing a pattern. This hospital has the biggest employee turnover rate I have ever seen. I don't know if they are firing people left and right or the job is that terrible that people are quitting. For a moment they had a regular staff but now things changed again and for the worst. They are no longer the most affordable around either. Their prices are the same as everybody else. read more

Dr Virk performed surgery on my dog to remove her leg due to cancer. He was so kind and caring. She was up the day after surgery eating and hopping around. The stitches are so well done- like plastic surgery stitches. I couldn't be more impressed with Dr Virk & his staff's kindness and professionalism. Update: The response from the Business Manager is an absolute lie. I brought Milo in for a follow up after Dr Virk suggested we bring him back in if his growth got bigger. I did exactly that and he didn't charge me for the visit and your office even called me that day to see if I was coming in. Your absolute negligence in communicating with the Dr is proof positive and an admission that you and your staff are not only unprofessional but also dangerous in not keeping accurate records of my animal's health. I did mention the alternative medication if you read my review. It's also an admission that he didn't listen to me or take appropriate notations during my 2nd visit and exam with Milo. Again, second exam as he looked at the growth the first time! I highly recommend you cease communication out of anger. I've seen your other commentary in slandering customers. Update :8:24 pm Oct 23, 2024. Dr.Virk seems to be notorious for making mistakes, hence his probation. I can't believe the mess this Veterinary Hospital is with Dr.Virk at the helm. I have zero confidence in him as a professional. My almost 11 year old German Shepherd has Tri-cuspid Valve dysplasia and was given two years to live by a Cardiologist. Milo now has a very large; either Sarcoma or lipoma near his right ear. Dr Virk shrugged that off without a clear diagnosis and said just leave it due to his age. I called to refill his anti anxiety medication, (almost 7 days later I finally get a response after watching our dog suffer) he wants to change the RX to something I will not give to any animal. I had expressed this during the last visit. The office told me it was because it's a DEA over sited medication and also because the doctor hadn't examined him enough or long enough. I supplied access to all of his records and he's been seen twice here. This doesn't jive with his reason to leave the large growth undiagnosed. This lazy excuse ridden care is not acceptable for any pet. Not just mine. Also, there was confusion between which vet he saw inside the office. Not a great sign! I truly miss the Vets we had in Oakland. They actually cared about the well being and health of our family members. read more

We are so thankful for Dr. Virk and hs team for getting our Boujee thru the emergency c-section. We are a small animal rescue and Boujee came to us in her last trimester of her pregnancy. She was exploited for money, pregnancy after pregnancy all for money. He stepped in and got us and her thru the worst delivery. Dr. Virk sat with her for 45 minutes getting her thru enema, Boujee lost alot of blood and wasn't responding after surgery, Dr. Virk didn't give up on her he just calmly got her thru it until she finally woke up. I can't explain how much I admire his dedication to animals owned by people and rescue groups. I couldn't afford another vet's cost for what we desperately needed, thanks to Dr. Virk for not charging a rescue thousands of dollars to do what he did that day. read more

We adore Alpine Veterinary Hospital and especially Dr. Virk. When we have an emergency (which, isn't that always the case with one's pet) they get us right in. There is no one more knowledgeable and compasionat than Dr. Virk, and Dr. Freeman is excellent, too. I am an active animal advocate and have experienced and seen so much. I have seen so many Vets charge outrageous amounts and give simple basic care. This is why I highly recommend Dr Virk. I took my Pomeranian Jewels in as she was experiencing a lot of bloat and unusual symptoms. Dr Virk was very gentle and compassionate, despite her feistiness. Dr Virk listened to me and took my opinion in consideration when providing her care. He did not push any extra services and did not rush us out. Because of this I learned that my Jewels had pancreatitis and her liver was enlarged. I felt horrible as I felt I neglected her by helping other animals. SO IMPRESSED!! This place has been great! When my bf took our cat in & learned he had cancer all inside his throat & would only live about one more very painful month, he was so upset. But Dr. Virk was incredibly gentle & understanding, & his kindness and excellent bedside manner helped my bf get through the difficult act of putting the cat to sleep. A few days later, we received a HANDWRITTEN CARD from Dr. Virk offering his condolences. That one simple act of kindness, paired with his excellent veterinary services, won us over! We recently took our other cat in due to an eye infection & they got us right in with Dr. Freeman. He was equally amazing-- he explained EVERYTHING to us, without talking down to us. And there was something about the way he and the vet tech touched & spoke to my cat that really struck me-- I could just tell that these people love animals & are in it for all the right reasons!! I'm so glad the Dr. Freeman explained that this particular infection takes quite a while to heal because otherwise I would've been very concerned when it took almost 2 weeks to heal. We also got our cat's booster shots while we were there. The exam, eye ointment, & shots only came out to around $200, which I thought was a very fair price for such great care. I've had many cats over the years, plus I foster kittens, so I've seen quite a few vets, but have never been terribly impressed by any of them. So I'm ecstatic that I've finally found a great place to take my sweet little babies.
