This loop is quite tight with little to no privacy (depending on the site). The larger (closed) loop definitely looked much more appealing...but we were grateful that at least they were open. The dump station and restrooms were open, restrooms clean. Although I much prefer more spacious and private sites, the grounds were well-maintained. Nice trees and a lovely creek, but unfortunately the highway is very close and we could hear traffic the whole night.

The bathrooms were cleaned constantly and there's access to what is basically a private beach. We were there while a borderline Noah's Arc level rain fell upon the park and there was adequate drainage and thankfully our NEMO tent weathered it with no issues. This State Park is close enough to explore the restaurants in Port Orford, Bandon and Gold Beach.

Although some sites were available, campers without reservations had to change sites in order to stay more than one night. And on a Saturday in June, the campground was completely full, even though the weather was less than ideal. In addition to campsites, there are a couple of small cabins here that can be rented. The sites are spacious and private. We walked from our site down to the beach, but it is a bit of a hike; so the next time we drove down the narrow road to the parking area. Cars are allowed to drive onto the sand, but the road down is rough, so you best be driving a high-clearance vehicle if you want to drive on the beach. With so many campgrounds situated near highways, or train tracks, the quiet at this campground was so welcome. While you are here, make sure to visit the Camp Blanco lighthouse and the Historic Hughes House.

I included a picture of Spike, he created a lasting memory for my family! The campground was well maintained and sites cleaned daily. They even provide a daily trash pickup from your site in the mornings which we appreciated. The sites aren't huge but have trees and bushes and privacy screens between, way better than those grass lots that shove you side by side. The staff are amazing - from check-in, to the daily rounds we always had staff smiling and offering to help. I was so impressed by their customer service. I highly recommend if you're looking for a nice quiet camp site! Amenities include pool (which we did not use), small park for kids (could use a nice cleaning but my son loved it), game room, and dog park.

HOWEVER there are plenty of positives! -There were plenty of spaces and apparently I went on a really busy weekend -Tons of river access and places to swim -A great big open field with a basket ball hop, volley ball court, teacher ball, and huge inflatable balls you can get inside of and roll around in. So although there's plenty of positives, the on site guy really upset me and was just a huge jerk and it made it so unpleasant. The owner told me it wasn't, and then gave me very detailed directions there. I could tell he was a character, and he did not disappoint. When I arrived there was no wind, and it's a beautiful spot, flat and very easy access off the road but definitely private. Since I wasn't sure which site to choose he walked the entire park with me, teaching me about the different trees and showing me each site. He spotted a weed and we stopped so he could pull it. He's a treasure. Ps, he built it all himself many years ago, landscaped it and cut all the trails as well! I'd guess him to be near 80.

When the lady in Ray's Food Place suggested my companion and I check out a BLM campground - I…read moreadmit, as a Northern Californian - I had my doubts: images of dusty, dry, rattlesnakey territory without toilets, tables and no fires allowed instantly filled my brain. However, we did not want to sleep under the fog so we headed north to Sixes and turned east. After following a curving riverside road - we found ourselves at the camp host's site and the sign in board. The camp host popped out of the window of her RV to greet us and give us an orientation, pointing us to a spot where we could camp. This was the most POSH BLM campground I have ever seen: neatly manicured green grass bisected by a flat gravel driveway, concrete picnic tables and fire pits on each site, well behaved Douglas firs sprinkled around. The site was $8 for the night and $5 for as much wood as we wanted to load in their wheelbarrow and haul back for the night. Most folks in the campground seemed to turn in early - including the couple camped near us with a cat and a dog in their tent (woof! mew!). Even the most drunk guy there seemed to go down at sunset. We slept in the open with a view of the Milky Way traveling across the sky - and I got to see two shooting stars. There was NO fog, no noisy traffic - just the sounds of the creek nearby and some birds who thought 3:30am was the right time to start greeting the dawn. No showers, either but that's what a creek or river serves when you camp like this (unless you leave at 6am like we did!).
