Love Elk Lake in both the summer and winter. In the summer it's an easy drive. They have beer and pizza. Nice spot to paddle board. In the winter it's a good spot to snowmobile to. They did just have new ownership and have redone the whole restaurant. It's a little fancier now, still very good. Excellent customer service. Cool spot to get out of the cold, couple of fireplaces. They just opened for the winter. The have some great cocktails and food. read more

Went to the restaurant on a Thursday and received poor service surrounded by many tables with dirty dishes. I paid $9 for a draft beer and heard there is a $20 fee for parking in their lot on weekends. I went there for years before the recent management change and will never go back. read more

Lots of renovations. Lodge is awesome. We skate skied on new groomed trail with lots of new snow. Downhill most of the 11 miles. Food and drinks were great. We took the snowcat back to Mt. Bachelor/Dutchman Sno-park and it was a great experience. Snow mobiles also shared the road/trail so it was great to go early on fresh snow and grooming. Lots of scenic views. read more

This place is so down your throat about everything if you renting pontoon boats, paddle boarding, or literally anything else. They "give you warnings" like you're 5 years old. Not a very relaxing place. The lodge is nice the only reason I'm giving 3 stars. Will not be back :( read more

Terrible experience today at Elk Lake. We've been frequently this resort for many years and have had some good experiences in the past, but today was quite different. We had reserved a pontoon boat for the day to have a special time on the lake with relatives visiting from Germany. We have a mini golden doodle and so rented the one boat that is dog-friendly - $477 price tag for the day. We got there and the boat was absolutely trashed, with seats torn up, stuffing coming out of the upholstery, and so dirty that we didn't want to sit on the seats or even put our stuff down. I approached the young man at the marina and told him that we were very disappointed in the condition of the boat and could they at least have swept it? He was incredibly rude and, instead of finding a solution for us, he said if we didn't like it, he didn't think we should be there. He did refund our money, but it came along with some very rude commentary. It would have ruined our day BUT, we were able to go another few miles to Lava Lake where we got a beautiful pontoon boat for $150 less and incredibly nice people. Needless to say, we'll not be going back to Elk Lake. read more

We normally have had fantastic service here, but tonight we felt like we were an inconvenience. We absolutely love this place and the food, but tonight the Bartender's energy towards us and her servers was extremely rude, negative and stand-off-ish. I love Elk Lake - gorgeous lake and views. And that's why it's popular. But geez - the price to camp? Insane considering there are no actual amenities. One water source, and port-o-pots, that are absolutely foul towards mid-late week. But the thing that most makes this a three star instead of higher is the prevalence of dogs. On leash, off leash, they're everywhere. I know it's very un-Bendite to have this opinion. But truly, not everyone thinks dogs are wonderful, and to have them romping and splashing. Can a person not have some space on the beach where a dog isn't shaking off the water? Can a kid play in the lake where dogs aren't pissing? Elk Lake people: either ban the dogs entirely, or set aside a lakeside area to the right of the boat launch for pups. We're sick of dealing with them every time we come over to the lake. read more

My husband spent his summers here as a child and through out his teen years. so now our kids spend their summers here. Beautiful views! Elk Lake is a stunning place. I recommend anyone headed to Oregon to go here. You can rent canoes, paddle boards, kayakes etc. during summer and enjoy the lake while breathing the fresh air and taking in with how beautiful this place is. They have cabins, camping cabins, cabanas, glamping tents, camp grounds, and RV grounds. during summer. I believe only cabins and camping cabins during winter....obviously lol or you'll freeze your a$$. The food is pretty good at their restaurant. Its' an historic lodge so it has that cabin and rustic vibe going. I totally recommend going here. read more

Planned a weekend at beautiful elk lake resort. However, a freak cold front is predicted for the weekend. The resort is closing EVERTHING!! But they refuse to refund our deposit. No restaurant, no boat rentals, no NOTHING!! Where are we supposed to eat? The cabins are not set up for cooking, drive to Bend? If they had any conscience they would refund-but apparently they have none. All reviews indicate the cabins are dirty and in need of care, that's OK. But not refunding when they have closed everything is not OK. Avoid this place, they have no heart. read more

Absolutely beautiful lake, pristine day with sunshine and a lite breeze. This Lake is back behind (on the backside) of Mt Bachelor about 50 minutes West of Bend. It is an amazing lake and crystal clear deep blue water. It was surprisingly warm considering this is from snow melt. We will be back! I ate here twice recently. I decided to take a nice long drive and camp at Elk Lake Resort for a few days. The place was nice, right on the water and decent food. Camping spots were nice and cozy as well. The first meal I got the elk burger and it was really good. Second day I got the elk chili which wasn't quite as good as the burger but still good. My only complaint was the really dry cornbread and it was served with sour cream. I'm used to seeing butter or honey butter with it. Overall it is a place I would visit and eat at again. read more

I'd only planned to pick up a box and keep running on my hike, but got stuck here for a double zero to recover from some unexpected mishaps on the trail. (Stomach issues, gear failure, and minor injury) Normal stuff: the food was great. If you expect resort prices, it's not too expensive and the portions are pretty big (couldn't even finish a few of my meals). Showers were warm. Sinks had water so hot it was steaming. All the taps I saw were potable. I could always find a flush toilet and an open outlet. No one gave me trouble washing my clothes at the faucet. I had no trouble getting a campsite. Found one w trees for a hammock AND my clothesline. It was easy to book a kayak and a paddle board to get some time on the water. It wasn't too crowded. I had time to read half of a book from their library, and I hope to come back to finish it sometime. Above and beyond: Absolutely every staff member I interacted with was SO nice. The staff VOLUNTEERED to help me out when they didn't need to, and when I tried to give them extra cash for it, refused even. They're just genuinely nice. One staff member even made a trip to town to replace some of my gear that failed, and that's just one example. And let's be honest, even friendly chit chat with guests is beyond the expectation. Taking food orders, everyone was on point w their follow up questions. They're pretty well practiced this late in the season. read more

Do not order the salmon add on to the salad. I don't what it was supposed to be, maybe smoked because it was dry and hard but it had no smoked flavor--no flavor at all. May it was supposed to be blackened, but it had no blackened flavor. It was just awful. Stick to the burgers. Staff was moderately efficient but our server was mesmerizingly rude--not normal server rude, just weirdly rude and abrupt, like we were just an inconvenience he had to deal with. Beware and carefully read their cancellation policies. They will keep your deposit (half of your rental fee) if you cancel under the 2 months out from your reservation, EVEN IF YOU JUST MADE THE RESERVATION 2/3 days before and planned to visit in less than 30 days. After several emails, I am happy to say the resort did make an exception (since I had just reserved the cabin) and agreed to refund the majority minus the $35 cancellation fee. I can live with that, and that customer service makes a difference. read more

Stayed in basic winter cabins we brought at 56q cooler and 1 plastic tote and backpacks. Heater in cabin works good tried sorting up in loft first night actually was to hot second night down stairs in sleeping bag and sheet provided was enough. Bathroom is a good 5 min walk down to the shower/bathroom facility at the lodge. We brought a small grill for some food there is not cooking or eating things provided in cabin just bed heater table and lantern. Food at the lodge was much better than expected. There isn't any designated snowshoe or cross country ski trials we walked the road and hiked 6 lake trail to the first lake which was a good few hours spring like conditions. read more

My wife and I were so excited to visit this place. It ended up being the most frustrating part of the whole vacation. Here's our story and you can make of it what you will. We booked a snowmobile rental from Elk Lake resort in early December. The rental cost about 500$ up front. It would have been our first time snowmobiling. I spoke to a nice woman on the phone who walked me through the whole process. Shortly after booking I received several emails detailing the transportation process for getting to the lodge. The process was: - get a snow park permit from a ski shop in town - drive up the mountain to a special parking lot - meet a tank-like vehicle at a designated spot there - drive to the lodge in the tank The guy who emailed me required that I *TWICE* confirm that I understand the directions. I did so. They were remarkably up my behind about confirming I understood the setup. In the email (attached a photo of this) they said "if you have any problem on the day of transport, call this number". So far, so good. The day of the rental my wife and I started to make our way up the mountain, and we encounter fairly heavy snow. We're from a snowy albeit not mountainous area and are not really strangers to this, but it's bad enough that we can't see ten feet in front of us. We get to the snow park 45 minutes early as instructed and decide to call the number in the email to hopefully get a little information about how the snow would affect things for the day. What was going through my head was: - confirm they were still going to run that day - see if they knew anything about the road conditions, plowing, etc (basically making sure we'd be safe coming down the mountain) - ask what to do if we got stuck Essentially just get some advice to make us feel a little peace of mind around what to do if we got stuck. This is where it unraveled, because no one picked up the phone. The pickup was supposed to be at 9AM. We called the number 6 times between 8am and 9am and we just went to voicemail every time. This is the number it said to call. They put it in bold text and yellow highlight in the email. Around 8:50AM we were having trouble maneuvering our vehicle (a grand Cherokee). Since we couldn't get in contact with anyone, we elected to leave and get back down while we were sure we still actually could. Around 9:40 AM I finally managed to get a woman on the phone for the most asinine conversation I think I've ever had. She basically told me that she doesn't answer the phone outside business hours which start at 9AM (the same time as the pickup lol). She tried to tell me that it was my fault because I didn't think to leave a voicemail any of the 6 times I called, and that she would have called me had I done so. NOWHERE IN THE INSTRUCTIONS that they had me confirm MULTIPLE TIMES said to do this. At one point she drew an unbelievably bizarre analogy where she compared them to a hospital and tried to convince me that if I didn't expect a hospital to call me back, neither should I expect a lodge where I have a booking to call me back. Still not sure I understand where she was going with this. I offered on the phone to work out a deal with them where we got back half the rental cost due to there being a miscommunication. I accepted some responsibility for being perhaps overly cautious of the weather and asked them to accept some responsibility for not answering the number they specifically told me to call on the day of, if there were any questions. Needless to say she told me to kick rocks, referenced their cancellation policy. You know, generally gave me the finger. Thanks guys. Thats the story. You can decide for yourself if you think we're in the wrong or them. They still have our 500$ though so they can have this review too. read more

Michele, at the Front Desk, was awesome getting us a cabin, she was friendly and made you feel like you were welcomed. Rob, Behind the Bar, did a great job serving us in the evening and Brenda Mae, Server, suggested the Chili and Cornbread for lunch, that was out of this world good! Especially on a cold wet day. This place was really bad. The cabin we got was creepy-dark and the staff did not give one F that we were there, or that we left a day early because of the creepiness of it all. We tried to rent a canoe at the marina after telling the office that no one was there, and they said someone would meet us there shortly but 30 min later we decided to give up waiting. We could not take one more night in the dark creepy horribly dated log cabin so we left. No TV, no wifi, they said to wash your dishes before leaving but no dish soap. read more

This afternoon we took the snow cat to the Elk River lodge for dinner. The snow cat ride was terrible. There were so many ruts in the snow that we were bumped around to the point of getting car sick. The road was not groomed at all. The snow cat could have used better shocks. The driver said he had to keep the inside at 82 degree heat otherwise the engine would overheat. All around a very unpleasant experience. Would not recommend. The food was okay, your basic pub fare. The only positive was the bar tender/ waitress who did everything by herself but was still attentive. read more

We rented two "glamping tents" for two nights - ~$500. The lake is beautiful and the restaurant (closed on Tuesdays) is wonderful though somewhat pricey. The tents include towels, linens, two futons, and a fire pit. A comforter is provided, but even in August it's not enough. Bring blankets. The campsite has no water source, but there are porta potties and a sink a short distance away. My biggest issue is with the advertised free showers in the lodge. In actuality, you must wait until 9:00 am to get access to a shower with minimal water flow, maintenance, and sanitation. There is one other shower which is well-maintained, but we were told it was for the boaters(?) only. When we discussed the shower situation with the person in charge we were dismissed with the comment "that's unfortunate". Camping, especially with children, is messy, and showers are necessary. Knowing what we know now, we will not be staying at Elk Lake Resort again. read more

Valentine's Day weekend 2021-This is the second time we have snow mobiled in and stayed the holiday weekend. Cabins are a bit rustic, but warm, dry and pretty clean. Some of the complaints from others, think people!! These cabins are not used by dainty, clean people. They are used and abused by people who are wet, dirty, and don't take their shoes off. Had lots of snow throughout the weekend. Snow mobiling was great! Five stars for the above. Three stars for the rest. Lodge is set up for Covid eating, we ate dinner Friday night as it was pretty empty. Saturday and Sunday were just a bit too full for our Covid liking. Cabin kitchens...the one time I don't have a wine bottle opener?!!! I carry one everywhere usually- purse, bath bag, car but alas we were with out. The kitchenette in our cabin didn't have one, so I meandered down to the lodge in hopes of getting them to open it. Nope! They wanted to charge me a bottle opening fee, when I stated I was staying at one of the cabins for the weekend, the waitress looked at me and said - all restaurants charge a bottle fee! C'mon, I'm paying a pretty price to stay at your establishment!! Why wouldn't there be a cheap bottle opener in the kitchens of the cabins, they are pretty cheap. Granted our spatula was held on to the handle w/ duct tape...so ?!Needless to say, we went the 'ol college route and pushed the cork in w/ a screw driver. AND, now I have a bottle opener in my snow mobile tool kit!! Only other issue was the bathroom was clean, lots of towels, but someone forgot to clean the shower- leftover soap and a wad of hair in the drain. Thanks to Covid, I had plenty of disinfectant and cleaners with me. Just no wine bottle opener. read more
