The Eye Opener - Two Eggs any style, Breakfast Potatoes or Grits, Applewood Bacon or Sausage and a Biscuit topped with Sausage Gravy.
    Jennie D.

I hope the management at this place reads this review. Eliza's Kitchen gets a bit of a bad rap from previous reviews on this site, and while I'm here to show them some love, management has a diamond in the rough here that they are doing nothing to polish. Mount Pleasant is WIDE OPEN if somebody new wants to jump into the breakfast game and nail it. Currently, nobody serving breakfast in Mount Pleasant is nailing it. Mount Pleasant has a couple of 'okay' spots but is largely void of breakfast restaurants that are doing breakfast very well, period. I have only dined at Eliza's for breakfast. In terms of ambiance, it's always quiet. If I am in the dining room with 5 other tables, that's a lot. That said, I order the same dish every single time. Yet for being perpetually slow, there has never been an instance of this dish coming out of that kitchen the same way twice. I stand by my review that the food is good, but the food could be outstanding if it were consistent. I am specifically referring to ensuring thoroughly cooked breakfast potatoes and sausage gravy that tastes 'Southern' and not 'Mexican.' If I can taste cumin in sausage gravy, it isn't Southern--sorry, guys. As for the rest of the dish, their sausage is some of the best link sausage you can order. It's a real selling point for me. It's plump, juicy, and full of flavor. The biscuits are generally fresh, and as long as I specify 'real eggs' when placing my scrambled egg order, I avoid liquid eggs. Not a fan. The service here leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know how else to say it. This venue has a huge problem with orders coming out wrong, coffee cups not topped off, and the check waiting to be picked up/change tendered for an extended time. I seldom, if ever, experience my plate being cleared. The servers simply don't come back to the table, and I am baffled every single time. This place is such a great location, and the positive visits have far outweighed the negative ones. If management pays attention, this place will be crawling with MP locals in no time. Trust me, we 'locals' are still waiting for breakfast to be served.

I HATE being ignored at a bar. I know you're busy, you made eye contact, then still proceeded to skip over me. Twice in one day is not okay.

I have never had a bad drink here. I got the Batata Clarified Milk Punch (description in picture) which was fantastic. The toasted marshmallow garnish was a great touch for the season we were in. My mom got the Bourbon and Clyde and she said it was incredible. Description also in picture. The orange foam and pistachio crumble was a great addition. Another great drink for autumn. My second drink was the Smokin Indo which was probably my favorite. They performed the smoked glass technique with applewood which was not only cool to watch but added a unique flavor to the drink. We always make a point to get the assorted cheeses when we are here because they make a great charcuterie board. They switch up the cheeses just like they change their cocktail menu. Love to sit at the bar because it is truly an art to watch the bartenders make these drinks and really adds to the experience. Everyone who works here is super kind and knowledgeable on their craft. However, if you are able to be there when the two Doar brothers are working it makes it truly special. They give postcards with their check and there's a bowl of matchbooks sitting on the bar. One of the best cocktail bars in Charleston. Debated writing this because I selfishly want to keep it under the radar but it definitely deserves its accolades.

The service was on point and the bartender was killing it at the bar - multitasking making 3 drinks all at once. It was super impressive and I took a few videos of him. I'm giving 4 stars because the first cocktail I ordered was SO SWEET that I couldn't get it down. I tried to drink it but had to send it back. We asked when we ordered about the flavor profile and supposedly it wasn't sweet, but all 3 of us agreed it was way oversweet. My black manhattan was phenomenal and my husband had a mocktail moscow mule that was awesome. Overall, I'd come back again - just be mindful of the ingredients in the drink and modifying as needed for sweetness. Make a reservation if you can!

Appetizers/shareable- We shared the calamari and French fries. The calamari was good! It came with an aïoli dipping sauce that was delicious. The French fries were comparable to any other restaurant fries. Nothing special. Main entrees- we each had a bite off of each other's entree/shareable to sample. Swordfish sandwich- flavor was there, battering was thin coated and gave off a nice crunch. Ceviche tacos- had a nutty Asian flavor to it. Came in 3 little bite sized taco like chips. Miss Paula grilled shrimp- shrimp in a curry Thai like oil served with 5 toasted baguette slivers. If you're into Thai red curry, I'd recommend this. They advertised the shrimp is locally caught. Oysters- nothing too exciting. Kitchen service- The reason behind the 0/5 for the kitchen service is because they messed up our order so many times. They missed two of our orders and didn't make them until we said something. Instead of getting our side salads we kept getting fries. We got double of things we hadn't ordered. From the moment the first person got served their food, there was a 40 minute gap in between the serving of the last person. Our foods weren't served together so we had some girls having to wait to eat. Even then, our last girl got her food to go because we also had another rsvp to be at. We spent about 3 hours on the rooftop total when they were so adamant on having a reservation. We expected to be here for only an hour so we could spend more time exploring downtown but couldn't do that due to the speed of the kitchen service.

She was gracious, professional, and genuinely friendly the kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back before you've even left. It sets the tone immediately, and the festive energy carries straight through the meal. We kicked things off with Bloody Marys and a Morning Fog -- simple, classic, and done right. They come as a small plate with three appetizer-sized tacos, and every bite was bright, fresh, and beautifully balanced. The Buddy the Elf Burger offers a choice of a single or double patty; ours was cooked perfectly. The smoky bacon really brought everything together and gave it that extra "wow" factor. We rounded things out with the O Come, All Ye Fried Rice with Hanger Steak, which was another winner -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. As if the meal wasn't great enough on its own, we happened to be there while Emily Curtis was performing. She's truly incredible and added such a fun, memorable vibe to the day. We arrived for dinner with our 2-year-old. The tone was set immediately by our server, who was visibly annoyed when I didn't respond to his greeting fast enough because I was tending to my toddler. Rather than reading the situation with any empathy, he sharply said "Hi, miss" in a way that made it clear he expected immediate attention. Not a great start. Things only went downhill from there. My husband had to briefly step away to take a work call, and instead of accommodating the situation in any reasonable way, the server dropped water and bluntly said he'd return "when your husband is back"--effectively refusing to engage with me at all. Trying to make the best of it, I decided to feed my child first. After waiting quite a while with no assistance, I had to flag someone down--who turned out to be the manager. What followed was honestly the most appalling part of the evening. I asked if they could simply warm up my child's food. Not only did she refuse, she told me I could not feed my child in the restaurant. No alternatives offered. No attempt at accommodation. No offer for a kid friendly food item, or no offer to feed her in the hotel lobby. Her "solution" was that I should leave the restaurant and go find some outdoor space nearby to feed my toddler. To make matters worse, she added that "service will start at 6:15 sharp," essentially implying I should figure it out and be back on their timeline. The complete lack of empathy, flexibility, or basic hospitality was astonishing. I have never encountered such dismissive and hostile behavior toward a family with a young child--especially at a supposedly high-end establishment. Mind you we have been to plenty of restaurants including 3 Michelin stars. If you're dining with a child--or frankly, if you expect to be treated with basic respect--I would strongly recommend going elsewhere.
