I grabbed a sammi from "Cheese Bliss" parked out front. Settled in for lunch and ordered a custom Bloody Mary. Ghost pepper vodka, spicy juice, (medium) spicy salt rim. "Mike-drop" excellent with a good grilled cheese sammi. I was invited to sample some spirits by Scott. He's smooth. After lunch I left with a smile and 4 bottles. Give this place a try. It's a worthy experience.

This location of Heritage is about a block away from where my sister used to live (with Hop Valley kiddy-corner and Thinking Tree a block or two in the other direction!). When I was home about a year or so after HDC opened their spot in Whiteaker (their first in Eugene), my friend and I felt compelled to visit, and we didn't even need to worry about finding a cab! Of course the brown sugar bourbon was the number one thing we wanted to try here. It's what put HDC on the map, right? We each ordered a flight. Mine was the aforementioned BSB, a huckleberry vodka, and the BSB 103--a higher proof version. Even if I got more bang for my buck with the last one, I didn't like it as much; for me, the flavor didn't surface as much in the 103 for what I could tell. I liked the others a lot; the huckleberry vodka was good, and I bought a bottle of the original recipe Brown Sugar Bourbon to take back with me. When we were here it was pretty quiet--only one other table filled up whilst we were here. (And this was pre-pandemic, 2017.) The bartender was helpful and willing to answer the questions we had about both the flight options and the cocktail I added on. The space is nice and clean, an upscale tasting room in the heart of Eugene. Eugene is growing up a bit, and I love that my hometown has some cool places to be. Will visit again when I'm home.

Arwa suggested I try the Affogato Martini. She was knowledgeable able about the different whiskies and vodkas. Arwa was right, it was a delicious drink. The flavor from the Coffee Vodka and the Sweet Ghost Pepper Vodka really made this martini. My husband purchased the whiskies he enjoyed. We also purchased the Coffee Vodka, the Sweet Ghost Pepper Vodka, and the espresso syrup, so I could go back to AZ and make my own Affogato Martini's.

Elk Rider bourbon is a good bourbon so I scooped up a bottle of that for the road. 1st Special Forces was slightly better than Elk Rider but the cost was more than it was worth. The dual barrel orange bourbon was not bad at all. A subtle orange that would go great in an old fashioned. But I could also pour any drinkable bourbon to make an old fashioned so I don't need this. The dual barrel vanilla bourbon was horrible. Nice vanilla but a "funk" finish. Hard pass. And we finish with the Cocoa Bomb. I thought this one was going to suck horribly. But guess what? I loved it. Enough to snag a bottle of that too!! My wife liked the Affogato martini enough to land a bottle of the ghost pepper vodka. I enjoyed the distillery, the service (great job Arwa) and the location. We even got a really good recommendation for sushi within walking distance.
