I called Jim Murray's Chimney Service after receiving what I considered to be an outrageous quote…read morefrom another chimney specialist. The job was pretty substantial... complete repointing, re-setting some missing bricks, unclogging and lining the chimney of my 100 year old house with a stainless steel liner. Jim's quote came in a roughly half, and detailed the same work that the other quote had proposed. The first thing you're impressed with is Jim's message on his answering system. He states that he checks messages every hour on the hour, and does actually CALL PEOPLE BACK. He did indeed call back promptly, and was out at my house within two days for the estimate. Being a sizable job, I inquired about the likelihood of additional costs coming into play after the job had begun, in conceivably finding additional problems once the chimney was opened up. Jim reassured me that his quote was firm, regardless of what else that may be found. I've had this issue with other contractors before, so I really wanted to inquire about this matter. They do not have x-ray eyes after all. Jim and his crew came to my house when they said that they would come, completed the job two days earlier than originally estimated, and did a stellar job. I don't normally review contractors' services, as I usually find plenty of fault... not calling back, not showing up, not adhering to the schedule... NONE of these were an issue with this company. I'm a total fan. I HIGHLY recommend this company.

I got a number of bids to have my new home's chimneys re-crowned as well as having a new cap installed on one of them. What ended up making me choose to have SHCS complete this work for me was how quickly my quote request was returned, the honesty in Bob's answers to all my questions. I contacted Bob in late December and he explained the work couldn't be done till spring but that he'd take a look at my chimneys and get me a quote, which he did immediately. When I agreed to have him do the work he scheduled me for spring and as soon as it was warm enough I got a call to schedule the work. He explained the weather looked clear for the coming Tuesday which worked well for us so I agreed. He than showed up on Friday the week before and completed the work because the weather was nicer than expected. Who can complain about quicker service?!?!? All that said, the thing that really pushed me to a 5 star review the most was the emails I got immediately following the work as well as a call confirming the work was completed. But the email really did it for me, it included my work order and before and after photos of the work. That is one of those little things that makes a huge difference to me and honestly Bob was already pretty set for 5 stars before the email. Finally no more leaky chimney that the previous owners neglected. TL;DR - fantastic service, ideal pricing and before and after photos emailed as promptly as possible.
