I have to be honest....they get 2 stars just for the professionalism of their workers. But the management of my repair job would embarrass any organization. The job was supposed to take 2-3 days...it took 3 whole months, with multiple visits that I had to be home for, all to re-adjust and repair a miscalculation done by the company owner who did the site survey...somehow he didn't realize after his inspections that my chimney pipe was not straight! The fact that he somehow missed this simple offset caused multiple delays, additions to the work, recalculations, waiting for parts, and readjusting work that had already been done. And after all that inconvenience, there was no offer by the company to make things right...only complaining about how much more money THEY had to spend to correct their mistake. Chimney "Scientists"? Sadly, our experience with Chimney Scientist was disappointing from beginning to end. Over the course of 10 weeks, with multiple calls to a manager and two technician visits, we were continually assured that our Hearthstone wood-burning stove could be serviced. We paid $165 for the initial inspection in August and were told service would follow. Only after weeks of waiting were we informed that they could not service our 20-year-old stove -- something that would have been very helpful to know upfront before scheduling, paying, and waiting nearly two plus months. When I asked to speak with the president to share our experience, I was told he was not available and would not discuss the matter. While I was refunded the inspection fee, we are now back where we started, two months later, having to find another company on our own. A very frustrating and unnecessary waste of time. read more

we've had issues with out fire place smelling like smoke permeating throughout our downstairs for years now. Tried having the outside chimney repointed and thoroughly cleaned out even though we really don't use it that often. They came out in November and were very thorough and seemed very professional and extremely knowledgeable. They recommended sealant on the outside brick and additional capping and I accepted their proposal along with an inside chimney cleaning. I have to say the dampness is gone and I have not smelled the musty and smoke smell at all this winter. I am VERY happy with the work they did and would not hesitate to call them again. I initially thought the price was a little high but for the fact they fixed the problem it was of excellent value and well worth it. read more

Fireplace Maintenance: On 2/13/26 a technician performed a 3 hour? maintenance and inspection service. When he was finished the fireplace was working but he said that there was too much gas going into the pilot light, it was dangerous and he could not leave the pilot light on but I could turn it back on after he left. He said he could probably not replace a part and I needed a new fireplace to the tune of $17K. I got a second opinion. After a 1 hour inspection and maintenance check by the second company (another cost of course) it was determined that I needed a part that cost $53 (nothing to do with the pilot light) and that I was never in any danger. I first booked an appointment on their website and never got a reply. After 10 days i called and they said it must have gotten lost in their shuffle, so we manually booked an appointment. When the day finally came (today) over a month had passed. The cleaner arrived and within 60 seconds was upselling me from a $179 sweeping to a $1200 chemical cleaning and based on the age of the house (25 years) i would need to spend $3500-$4500 more to have the chimney re-grouted. He hadn't seen anything in the chimney yet. I felt like this was a total hard-sell or a bait and switch tactic. Needless to say, i asked him to leave and will find someone else to do the job. I had googled this company since I did not have any other resources. Am I glad I found the Chimney Scientist!! I booked my appointment with Chantel who is INCREDIBLE and was very professional, sweet, and accommodating. Lucky for me, there was an immediate opening! Joe & Dylan arrived within minutes of my hour window starting and from what felt like seconds, had laid tarp down and were ready to do their job. I've owed my home for 19 years and never had my chimney swept: always meant to get it done but never did until now. Joe was extremely thorough describing what the job entailed and the function of the machine and how it extracts the "soot" from the fireplace. He also recommended the best wood to use and where to get it from. The job was completed within minutes and the cost, well it is VERY REASONABLE and AFFORDABLE. A full inspection and then did a very thorough cleaning of the stove and chimney.
