Called Clements to complete a certification for our heater flue. When inspector arrived he shined a…read moreflash light up the flue and stated that we failed the inspection and it would be $675 to repair the flue to code. I was told it was missing an essential part of the clean out and they would need to break through the wall to add the necessary components. He charged me $85 and stated I would get an invoice for the work required. I called my dad who, the day before, had cleaned out the flue, who disagreed with the estimate and the noted problem. He encouraged me to seek another estimate from a different company. They came out, evaluated the flue, added some screws and passed the chimney no problem. Clements never sent me the promised estimate and already cashed my check. Do not recommend! Feels like I got scammed!! Also, listen to your parents!

Work done was adequate, albeit overpriced, I was in a time crunch so did not have time to get…read moreanother opinion on what would have likely been half the price. Also, don't believe them when it is stated that the price of the certification will be credited toward the repair work. They skate around that by saying they provide the 'second certification, the one that passes' for free. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Update: Updating my review based on Ken's reply. Entitlement need not apply here, this statement on his website: "The cost of certification may be put towards any repair work", does not imply that there is some arbitrary delineation mark that suggests some repairs may have the cost of certification can be applied to some repairs but not others. I'm inclined at this point to contact my credit card issuer and request a partial chargeback and let them determine the meaning of the website language. Also, as to the statement on 'Profit Margins', the cost to a consumer for the part I had installed is ~$100 plus an hour's labor. Total bill: $735. Considering the other reviews here, I should have known better before contacting Clements. I love the condescending reply from the owner of the business. $85 isn't a lot of money, but the principle is. Considering I'll need a fireplace cert once a year or more for tenant turnover, I know I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
