I requested an inspection and estimate. Brian, the technician arrived promptly and did a thorough inspection and gave a preliminary report. The detailed follow-up report included several photos. I called for further clarification and spoke with Tim who explained the photos. They declined to the repairs necessary due to close proximity to neighbor's chimney (are house is one half of a"twin"). The job requires demolition and removal of the terracotta lining in our flue. This demolition could damage neighbors flue, thus they declined to undertake the job. Called Bennis 2 times for 2 separate requests - one for a chimney lining and damper fix and the other for a flue cap replacement. Each time they seemed very uninterested in completing the jobs. They said they would get back to me and never did. I went with a more reputable company. Wouldn't recommend. read more

Bennis did a substantial upper chimney rebuild for us about a year or so ago and did a great job. The work was top notch. The estimate process was easy, fair and efficient. They came out as scheduled and did the work as quoted. They have a very good reputation in our local area and it's obvious why when you work with these guys. Honestly, looking over the reviews for them, it's clear that the 2 negative reviews are most likely not telling an accurate picture of their stories. Nice crew who answered all my questions, very hard workers in intense heat and humidity and they kept a meticulously clean work site and personable as well. Can't ask for much more. They took quality photos of their crown and flute work from beginning to end and sent them to my mobile phone to record work done. I really appreciated this! We bought an old house with 3 fireplaces and, at the recommendation of our HVAC contractor, had Bennis in to checkout out the fireplaces, determine whether they are operable, and, if not, tell us what would be needed to get them working. So Bennis came and cleaned them out for $125 each and then sent us a proposal that described such work as "rebuild back wall of fireplace" and "install smoke tite" and gave prices of around $1100 per fireplace. That seemed reasonable enough so I called with the intent of accepting, but also to ask a couple of questions. My principal question, of course, was whether the fireplaces would work fine once the work was completed. And the surprising answer was: "Oh, I don't know. We can't say that. We didn't get up onto the roof because it had been raining, so can't say what condition the flues are in. You might need more work." Needless to say, we weren't interested in paying $3400 for fireplace work with no guarantee--or even good reason to believe--that the fireplaces could then be used. So I asked them to return to complete their inspections and then give me a bid on all work that would be needed to get the fireplaces in working condition. They returned in not too long and spent a couple of hours doing a more thorough inspection. When they left they told me that much more work was required than what they had put in their initial proposal and that I should expect a detailed revised proposal in a few days. That was over 2 months ago. I've called five times to ask for their proposal. Each time my query elicited a different response--from "we have no record of anyone being out to your house and don't know what you're talking about" to "Mr. Bennis is reviewing the details right now, even as we speak, and we'll be putting the complete proposal in the mail this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest." Well, I still haven't received anything and I'm not planning to call again. So on responsiveness, Bennis gets about a zero. But the greater concern involves their first proposal: I could easily see myself having accepted that proposal and paid $3400 for, in effect, nothing of value. We recently bought out house and had Bennis come out to inspect and clean two fireplace chimneys, one gas and one wood burning. They arrived early and got right to work. They were courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. We've never had a fireplace before. They explained how to use both and how they should be maintained. Told us to give them a call if we had more questions. Would definitely recommend them. read more

I have been using Bennis Chimney Repair since 1983. They are always prompt, accommodating, efficient and clean. They have added feet to our chimney, done stucco, added a damper and cap to the top, done pointing a mantle and of course clean the chimney yearly. read more

I made an appointment for 3:30 today. At 3:55 I called to see if there was a problem and if there was, why no one contacted me. I had to leave a message even though there were people in the office. I received a phone call from Mr. Ed Bennis himself, at first I thought everything was going to be fine. I was wrong as Mr Bennis went off on me, making excuses to why they were running late. He didn't even explain why there was not a courtesy call (as good business practices would dictate as well as common courtesy). He went on to say and I quote, "I have been in business for 30 years without people like you" and hung up the phone. I was going to give this company my hard earned dollars and he said he doesn't deal with PEOPLE LIKE ME. He was rude, ignorant and I still don't know who people like me meant. I am your average, hard working 50+ year old man who has worked all my life and myself or other customers do not deserve to be spoken to or grouped into some lower class of people Ed Bennis thinks I am. I called back and again Mr. Bennis didn't have the guts to even talk to me, however I cancelled the job. Please be careful that you don't get Mr. Hyde instead of Dr. Jekyll. A very bad experience, so glad they didn't come out as I don't know what would happen. I am writing this so hopefully anyone isn't subjected to the insults, categorizing and hateful comments Ed Bennis uses when speaking to potential customers.
