I'm not sure if I'm going to buy this car-- but if I do I'm going to feel comfortable with the purchase. I'll let you know if I pull the trigger on this one. I was all primed to plunk down the 2k down payment when I got a call that our youngest (Buddie, a three and a half year old tortie) was missing. Tore home and found her in one of her favorite hiding spots. Below is my initial impression. I did feel marginalized. The second visit I did not. Yes... I may have swung too far back, but it's feeling like a five star business right now. Let's hope for a happy ending! I felt marginalized. They did offer me a 4000 dollar car with a 1000 down payment at 28 %... so I guess they were willing to overlook my social inappropriateness and do me a favor. I am suprised to be thrilled with a used car dealer. I have bought a LOT of cars over the years and basically assume that a car dealer's job is to screw the customer. I was looking to buy an inexpensive, but reliable convertible. In Chicago, the best time is in winter - I found my car in July. The price was fair, the condition was terrific, and Ted, the owner of Elite, was straightforward and a gentleman. I was concerned about a few minor issues the car had and Ted said that I shouldn't worry, he would take care of it. we shook hands and I thought that was it. A few minor problems cropped up and I called, full well expecting to hear some polite version of 'tough luck'. Ted simply asked when I could bring the car in. He and his mechanic quickly addressed the issues - WOW. They have been in the same location for over two decades and I can see why. I have already recommended Elite to several people and won't hesitate to continue to do so. Even if you're in the city and Elmhurst seems too far (its not far from the Eisenhower Expressway) it is WORTH the trip. And my new convertible is named Sophia. Not being from Illinois, I wasn't fully aware of "buyer beware" and took the sellers at their word that it was solid shop truck, that the tonneau that wasn't installed was perfectly functional, that the A/C just needed a recharge (and didn't have a leak, which it did), that the clunk in the right was due to the gas can they had as opposed to a broken suspension, and (although they may not have known this) that after some distance, the transmission goes out and needs replacing. The truck was $5300, I put another $2k in it until the transmission went out. I asked them to make it right. The shop owner said he would charge me their "shop rate" if I transported it the 4 hours down there, and paid for the parts to have it fixed.. Long story short, do your due diligence, and do not trust these folks at their word. read more

I bought a car here for my daughter's first car. I didn't expect it to be perfect, but I also didn't expect to have so many issues in 8 months. The dealership said they had done some work to the brakes and everything else seemed to be okay for the age of the vehicle. The first issue came up a week after we purchased the vehicle. After filling up the gas tank, we found that there was gas leaking from the vehicle. After some back and forth, the dealer agreed to fix it, but charged us to have it towed in. a few months later, we saw there was some brake fluid leaking. We took it into the shop and found that the work the dealership had done, prior to us purchasing the vehicle, was done illegally. To properly Fix the vehicle, it was $870 because all of the housing was ruined from the leaking fluid. We have now run into an issue with the exhaust. After inspecting the vehicle the shop told us that the car was missing a catalytic converter. They suggested I call the dealership because it was clear that the vehicle had been sold this way! The dealership's response was how would they know it was missing.... I would strongly urge everyone to stay away from this dealership. They clearly have no issue with selling unsafe vehicles. read more

stay away from this place! I bought a 99 astro van and while not expecting it to be perfect, I also expected it to be safe. In 2 months the van lost its breaks while on the highway, the wheel tore free of the bolts while driving, The gas tank fill stem had a pin hole in it and they said they couldn't do anything to patch it (took me 5 minutes in auto zone to find a patch kit), then once I fix it find out the gas tank doesn't hold a full tank of gas. They replaced the blower fan when I bought it but they left the old resister in the engine. this place is a total scam. so far the total repairs to the car will total about 3200 bucks in less than 2 months. read more

We bought a vehicle here today. We began our search online using Carfax among others. I called and spoke to Ted. I told him what I was interested. He was very friendly and professional over the phone. I never felt like I was wasting my time. He listened intently to my wants and concerns. We dropped in on a whim to check out the vehicle a few days ago. Ted wasn't in, but another gentleman was friendly and let us check out the vehicle. We went home to discuss things and do some homework. Today we returned to test drive said vehicle. Be patient when you show up here as the cars are all parked in a grid and it's like Tetris to try and get them arranged to get the car out of the lot. It would help to call ahead and ask them to possibly move the car. We drove the car. We spent a good time on the road. We even pulled over to check tires, lights, etc. They said we could take our time. It was nice not to feel rushed to get the car back to their lot. When we returned, we were able to agree to a price for the car. Their dealer fee is only $160. I called multiple dealer lots and most were over $300. One was even over $400. The paperwork didn't take but twenty minutes and we were on our way. I recommend Elite Car Outlet! Ted was great and he even gave us a gift for purchasing the car. It's hard to trust dealer lots on the side of the road, but we strongly feel Elite is one of the best. Be sure to do your homework and check the CarFax people!! Knowledge is Power!! read more

We should have paid more attention to the negative reviews and saved ourselves some unwarranted aggravation. I wish I could leave a review of an actual car, but couldn't get past the horrible service. I needed a reliable vehicle to get to and from work. We chose to go with Elite in hopes of getting an inexpensive car with easy to deal with terms. 'Cody' who said that the down payment for a car in the range we were looking at (5k or less category on their web site) with my wife's good credit would be between 500-1000. We sent over the information requested in order to get the financing started on a car we were interested in... and said we would like to put 500 down.. Since this was a Wednesday evening, we knew we wouldn't hear any thing back until Thursday morning. We called the next morning, 'Cody' wasn't there. So at this point Jaime was supposed to take care of us. We told him that we decided to pass on the car we were initially looking at. The carfax on the vehicle we were initially interested in was flagged for discrepancies on the odometer. We informed Jaime that we were going to look at another vehicle instead. Two hours later he got back to us with financing options... for the car we told him we didn't want. They wanted 800 down for that one. This is when poor treatment and lack of decent customer service kicked in. After speaking with him around noon so that he could get the numbers on the second car we were interested in, the rest of the day was a total waste of time. The second car we choose was actually 1000 less than the first one... so I assumed the financing decision should be quicker and with more favorable terms. Silly me. I guess because mt spouse and I were not about to go out in single digit weather to a dealership with out an assurance of getting financing... we weren't worthy enough to get the occasion call back... or update.... or were put on hold and literally forgotten about if/when we did call. Constantly being told, "I'll call you back in ten minutes...", yet watching another hour pass by. It took Jaime literally all day to get back with us... and when he finally did get back with some numbers.... they wanted 900 down for the the 'cheaper' car...??? This being so late in the evening, we couldn't get there if we had wanted to and we also wanted to decide if we thought it was a good idea to pay a higher down payment for a car which was 1000 less than the other one. Friday morning comes... we decided to likely pay the down payment with the hope of a significantly less monthly. I call back... and wow.... Jaime is off.... so now I have to deal with Juan. After he supposedly pulled up our file.... he says that the down payment was 1700!!!!!! WTF I told him Jaime said that it would be 900.... he wasn't phased. He said he would call Jaime to find out what the deal actually was and get back with me in 10 minutes. An hour later... no call... so I call. Juan is busy! Whomever the guy I spoke to at that point was no less than rude. Basically telling me I have to wait until Juan get back with me... but not in the nicest of fashion. Making reference to all the waiting I did the day before, I said, "You guys keep saying you're going to call back in a few minutes... and two hours later nothing". His response was basically I hadn't waited two hours since they wasn't open before 10:00 a.m. Juan finally got back to us at around 2:00 pm.... this time the down payment was 1000. 800 to 900 to 1700 back down to 1000... all seamed to be numbers they just kept tossing up trying to see how much we would pay for a down payment. I'm less aggravated about the terms, though we were... and more about the rudeness on the phone and the total waste of our time. I firmly believe that they wanted to dump the car with the odometer issues off on us and instead of treating us like valued customers... treated us like we were annoying them trying to buy another car when we decided that one wasn't going to work for us. Buying a used car comes with so many unknowns and risks, and my biggest fear was purchasing a car that might appear great, but might have expensive hidden problems. Ted was very thorough and patient with us and answered all of our questions. He even said if there's anything wrong with it, go ahead and bring it back and he'll make it right. The paperwork we signed explicitly said we were purchasing the car "as-as" with no warranty. Still, we had our mechanic check it the next day, and some issues were discovered that would cost hundreds of dollars to fix. We called Ted, expecting to run into resistance, but Ted said "bring it in and we'll make it right". No questions asked. True to his word, they fixed everything the next day. i have purchased 7 vehicles at elite motors in the last 20 years.....at first i was happy with my purchases. but as the years went one i started to notice the vehicles i purchased were not to the standards of what they were.....the salesmen name is Jamie he will be your best friend until things start to go wrong. i ended my landscape business in 2023. In september i was looking for 1 more vehicle to purchase for my personal use. I told Jamie at my age [73] that this would probably be my last car and asked them to make sure i got a good vehicle. i purchased a 2013 ford escape with 120,000 miles. before i even got it off the lot the wind shield stopped working, and the car flunked emissions. for starters didnt anyone who looked at the car check the wipers? well they fixed that and paid for a convertor for emissions. okay picked up the car 3,000 miles later not only did i need brakes all the way around $680.00 i needed a battery $230.00 during that cold day when it hit 30 below car wouldnt start had it towed found out later it had a cracked block i will be picking the car up today but i have to pay $3500.00 so in the last 2 weeks i will shell out 5,000.00 i want to personally thank jamie and i hope he chokes on the comission for this car and all the others.....remember jamie what goes around comes around!!!!!!! read more

I've known of this dealership for quite a while. I've passed by it for years on my way to work, and I've even tried to apply for credit, but was declined. I've had referrals about this place, and I thought they were upstanding people. I found a 2006 Nissan Murano that was advertised on CarGurus for I believe $3600. . I talked to someone at the dealership via email and was able to negotiate the price to $3000. I was going through a separation so I checked out the car on my own, and found a few issues with the vehicle, but my initial questions asked about any major mechanical issues and of course I was told there were none. I only had $3000, and did not have the money for the tax and tile, and asked for an additional week to pay, they nicely gave me 2 weeks instead. Within the two weeks, I had to bring the vehicle back because the windshield wipers were not working, and at the end of the 2 weeks, the radiator gave out. They fixed the radiator at no charge,and gave me more time to pay the remaining balance which at that time was only $350, as I made a $350 payment the week prior. I purchased the vehicle May 23, 2020, and was stranded three times in the vehicle, one when I was caught in the rain because the windshield wipers they fixed went out in the rain, and then when the radiator went out, and finally when the engine went out. My vehicle was towed by the Illinois State on July 17th, two months after purchasing the vehicle due to engine problems. I immediately emailed the dealership and they had no remorse all because of a $350 defaulted payment. People work hard for their money, and these times are hard for individuals and people alike. You see signs and advertisements all over stating we are in this together, but we are obviously not. They offered no assistance, no helping hand. All I got was basically ridiculed because I was not able to make a payment because I was out of work for some time due to COVID. Please, if you are a single mother or woman,and you are in desperate need of a car, do not go here. They take advantage of people that don't know any better and they laugh and make fun when the car they sold you goes out in less than 2 months after purchase. I've already sent reviews to all social media outlets, and submitted a complaint to the attorney general's office, but if you have any further suggestions on what I can do to get my money back for the purchase of this lemon vehicle, please let me know. read more

I am a college student attending Whitewater, WI. I was looking online and found a car I was interested in. They showed me the vehicle but also showed me more (in my exact price range) that would also fit my needs. They where completely honest with me and explained they have kids in college so they know exactly what I'm looking for. I decided on a vehicle. They even went down on the price to fit my budget. However, my card wasn't going through. Since I live two hours away and my roommate drove all the way there for me I had no idea what to do. Bought a 2005 Honda civic LX 98 k miles for 4500 out the door. The shop replaced a part in the back door, as the power lock was broken. Upon test driving the vehicle I knew it would need new brakes. I replaced both front and back brakes, under the hood there was a very shredded /worn out wire that needed replacing, needed a new oxygen censor ( check engine light came on 2 days into owning the vehicle). They told us the plates would be in within 2 weeks.. it's been 3 weeks and no word. Also still waiting for the title to come in the mail.. I came out lucky considering the type of vehicle I got with the amount of miles it had. There were problems with the vehicle and I needed to spend extra money on making it safe to drive. This place doesnt care on the condition of the vehicle they sell you. Upon reading other reviews on here I feel relieved I didnt have as many issues as others. All reviews have 1 thing in common, the cars have major issues and they dont care if you drive away in an unsafe vehicle. Not to mention the owner is always walking around smoking a cigar and the inside of the business is filthy and reaks of his cigar. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a safe vehicle. They're conmen and they couldn't care less. read more

The main manager hung up on us and told us to basically figure it out ourselves. I hate leaving 1-star reviews because jobs and commerce revenue are at stake,so I only do so when it's warranted. I'm not sure what kind of horse and pony show this place runs but they tried to do a bait-and-switch on me. I found Elite Car Outlet via autotrader.com. The ad said to contact Juan or Jaime. I called Jaime to ask if there was a car still available and he said yes. I paid $40 for a carfax report on it and the report was clean, no accidents or anything major. AN hour later I drove about 45 mins to buy the car. However, Jaime was not there and Juan assisted me. He said the car I wanted was sold, but has 3 other cars alike, of which one was older with more miles and more $, and the other 2 were newer and much more $. I find it hard to believe the car I wanted was sold within 2 hrs. He also said the one I wanted had a lot of body damage. When I told him the carfax report came clean, he said carfax reports don't mean anything. Really? So I should trust a used-car salesman over carfax? I don't think so. After wasting 2 hrs and $40 on a carfax report, I'm still at square one. I would recommend anyone to think 3 times dealing with these guys and make sure the car you want is there before going to them. Does a honest used-car lot really exist? read more

Ive was in the auto industry for 40 years. My young friend demanded we go here so she can buy her a car. I begged her not to. She wouldnt listen to me and what happened? She bought a bucket of shit! I know a company has to make money but I guarantee these tools bought her SUV for $2000 and sold it to her for $5500 (financed). Is she happy? No. The gauges dont work.... no radio.... things are going wrong with it. Is Elite the problem? No. Not 100%. The consumer is. Buyer be aware. I would like to start off by saying, Chris is Fantastic! For two months I have been looking for a car, Nissan Murano to be exact. Chris, has gone out of his way for me! I test drove on Friday after work, I was dropped off. I went to pick my daughter up due to only driving car for 5 minutes on my lunch break. Chris told me to come after work, go pick up my daughter because that would give me at least 45 drive. I live in Darien. (About 15-20 min away). On my way to drop car back off, I called spoke with Juan. I told him I was on my way back and could anyone drop me off at home.(it's 7pm). Juan said, no. He didn't have anyone going that way(he didn't even know which way I lived). He said I could take UBER or cab. He was rude! I prefer to only deal with Chris. These people are selling terrible cars with serious problems hiding behind the "as is" clause. I purchased a vehicle and within 24 hrs of me leaving the dealership it practically started falling apart. They tried to convince me that the issues I was having, jerking and wheel hopping was "normal" because it was a 4 wheel drive vehicle (this is honestly what they told me) I took my car to a reputable shop and spent spent $2100 on my car the 1st wk of having it. I was also told that Elite had cleared codes on my car in order to sell. I had to purchase a new transfer case amongst other things. I later went back in to pick up my license plates and there was another buyer on the premises complaining that her transmission went out. I complained about my issues as well and they asked us to leave stating that we were scaring away customers, they stated that we were out of luck seeing as how the cars were purchased as is. They also told us they didn't give a damn about us going to the BBB. They went so far as to call the police, the kicker is when the police arrived they advised me to get a lawyer and stated that this place should've been closed down years ago and that they constantly get complaints about Elite. Officers stated that they're called there often to control situations involving disgruntled buyers. Would NEVER recommend. Take heed if you value your hard earned cash. I recently purchased a 2004 nissan murano from them and i couldn't be any happier with the service i received. I was able to look at the cars on my own without feeling pressured or pushed into a car that i didn't want. The staff was extremely friendly, the atmosphere felt much like a family. The nissan did need the power steering hose replaced but when I called them about it I was told to bring it on in, they fixed it for me within a few hours and i was on my way. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE. Read the story and you will understand. I should have had the car checked out by my go-to mechanics before purchasing it. But the salesman who took care of my transaction was very personable and persuaded me that the car was a good buy and that he himself hesitated selling it to me. I correctly remember him saying "[he] just got the car from the Audi dealership in Evanston. It's a great car and that [he] has been driving it everyday. Everything is in great condition." A week after purchase I took the car in for a usual inspection. It did not pass the emission test. Only after taking the car to my mechanic did I find out that 1) the catalytic converter was not working. In fact, I wasn't there at all. 2) There was some kind of freak modification done with engine to bypass the missing catalytic converter. 3) The check engine light was manually disabled so that it wouldn't indicate the problem. I called the salesman who (of course) did not remember me and did not recall saying anything about the car being in great condition. He refused to give me a refund. I saw a few cars on their website so I went to take a look at them and see what else they had. As I pulled into their lot a man came to me and asked what I want while I was parking the car. I said excuse me? He said what do you want. I said I want to buy a car. He replied you cant park here, pull your car up to the street...I thought to myself you mean right next to the sign that says no parking? Anyhow I pulled out of his lot and parked on shoulder of Rt. 83 and went in. I walked into the office and there was a very heavy set gentleman sitting in the back of the office. I said can you show me some corolla's under $4k. He said we dont have any. I said your website shows a prism and at least one corolla under $4k. He said they dont have any. I said what about that green one next to my car. He said that is not for sale yet. At that point I was not going to take a car from him if he gave it to me, so I left. But I still needed a cheap car with good gas mileage. I live down the street so the next day I checked their site again and saw the same cars but a new addition. I called this time. A guy by the name of Chuck I think answered. I asked if he had a prism, and a couple corollas and civics that are on the website. He said they are all there. I said a heavy set Hispanic guy told me you didnt have them. He said he didnt know why he would say that and to come in and ask for him. I went in, turns out Chuck or whatever his name is was the guy who asked what do I want when I tried to park in his lot the day earlier. He showed me some over priced wrecks with bald tires and much heavier damage than the pictures on his website showed. I said the cars are in tough condition, does he have any cleaner cars? He said he sells these cars all over the world, he shipped them to Zimbabwe or somewhere in Africa, Europe, people fly in from other states...I obviously offended him so I said good luck with that and left. Unfortunately every salesman at every used car dealership I went to in the last month met me with either anger, indifference, or a defensive posture. They weren't willing to come down on a car we were interested in and there was no way it was worth the price they were asking. Everything else they showed us was junk. We went elsewhere that treated us way better read more
