Took 1/2 a year to finally get an appointment for my physical, as the past 3 times it had to be rescheduled by them for a variety of reasons. And when the day finally came, they had me listed as consult appt, and I will have to reschedule for another time to get an actual physical... with the NP, as Dr. Alvarado is booked out for the next 1/2 year. Ummm... what?! 1. Waited 3 months for my appointment, when I showed up, the front desk told me that they left me 2 Vm to schedule as they no longer have a NP. Weird, I never received a VM, they repeated my number, and it wasn't even mine! No apologies. Just a simple "the next appt is in 2 months." 2. 1 week til my appointment, I get a call from their office, they don't have a NP so I have to be rescheduled. Next appt 2 months from now. 3. Shows up for my appointment. They had me down for a consult. Consult for what?! I need a physical! I''m done with their office staff, and poor bedside manners. For a private Dr's office, they operate like a clinic from Downtown LA, and probably have better availability and better front desk people. This office is atrocious. Save your time and insurance, and go somewhere else. Easier to get an appointment and may actually see a Dr. anyways. read more

My experience with Dr. Alvarado's office. I tried to make an appointment with the doctor but there was nothing available for 6 months. The office asked me if I wanted to see the nurse practitioner which I accepted as I thought it would just be the initial appointment and then going forward, I would see the doctor. At the 1st appointment with the nurse practitioner, I was evaluated and then she schedule my physical. What?? I thought I was there for a physical. Ok, I didn't complain and made the next appointment. I went back and had the physical which was fine. The nurse was nice but still no doctor. A couple of weeks later, I got a phone call that the nurse wanted to go over my test results via phone call. When the time came for the call, I wasn't able to get to my phone and missed my consult. When I called back, they told me I was being charged $75 for the missed phone call. I had no idea this was a thing. I argued about it and the person I spoke to agreed to waive the fee. I told her to just send the results, no phone call necessary. A few weeks later I received a bill for the missed consult phone call and when I called to say they had waived the fee, the office wouldn't budge. So I paid it. I can't say anything negative about the doctor because I never met her or spoke to her. I decided to continue my search for a doctor because for me, the whole point of a primary doctor is that I would have someone to call for questions about my health. This was all too difficult for me. I was a patient here for years and actually never even met Dr Alvarado. There have been a few transgressions and I will no longer be going back. 1. they failed to mention that I had a lesion on one of my organs. When I went back this year for a physical, they asked about what the follow-up had been on the lesion discovered a couple of years earlier. LOL. nothing, since I never had ben informed. Luckily it was benign but what the heck? what if it had not been? 2. similarly, several family members go to this office as well (on my referral which I have since withdrawn) and one of them called re their bloodwork and was told everything was normal. then, about a month later he received a call from the PAs assistant telling him that his bloodwork was off and that his prescription needed to be tweaked.... 3. I called after several weeks to check-in on my bloodwork. the front desk insisted that I schedule an appt with the PA to go over...mmm ok? I did. blood results were almost exactly the same as they always were, nothing major to report, no follow up needed, totally standard. then I get a claim + bill....they billed my insurance for a 30 minute appt and collected from insurance + my copay. New patient, first appointment: Very disappointing: took 3 months to get an appointment. I arrived 25 minutes early - after having received 2 confirmation messages-only to be told by the receptionist that my appointment has been cancelled. The receptionist said they'd 'tried calling me this morning'. I'd received no call but double checked anyway- there was no call from the office. I showed them my call history and also the confirmation text messages they'd sent (the most recent one an hour earlier). They continued to insist that they had called at '8am' this morning, despite all evidence the contrary (they had my correct number on file). I don't mind appointments being rescheduled- these things happen- but this was all very poorly managed. Office staff are key in setting the tone in any work-space, but especially in a medical one where trust and comfort are central; if there has been an organisational glitch, best to own up to it and apologise when it's clear there's been an error or oversight. read more

This office takes on way too many patients. Seeing the doctor is nearly impossible and the nurse practitioners have to pick up the slack. There are weird ads in the waiting room (for vitamins or drugs, which is inappropriate because she is a doctor, not a sales rep). The referrals to other doctors are also terrible. The only good thing about this office is the blood drawing place in the same building, which is convenient and runs very efficiently. Don't waste your time here. read more

Dr. Alvarado is great. She has great bedside manner and truly listens to my medical complaints and does a thorough assessment. I never feel rushed and always get an ample amount of time for my medical screenings. She easily orders labs, scans and ultrasounds in order to diagnose and treat me. Her staff is pleasant and great about calling back with results. I schedule my annual exam a year in advance when I'm there for my appointment and that works out best. When I am sick I can either get in with her or her Nurse Practitioner. Her office is using safe measures for covid precautions. I would highly recommend Dr. Alvarado. read more

By far one of the most unprofessional doctors I've encountered. How do you expect to run a business if you always call out! I wait months for my appointment just to be rescheduled, wait for that appointment day and it was rescheduled again! Beyond furious. Not to mention if I need her to fill something out its weeks before I get it back. I call the office I get placed on hold for over 5 minutes every single time. The new staff is trash. There was a time she had a wonderful staff that always tried to help. Wendy was wonderful and was there for a long time after she left other girls left and office just went to crap. My appointment was scheduled for 3:15. I was taken in to the room on time, vitals taken, was told Dr (nurse practitioner) will be right in. 45 minutes later, no one had come in to check on me, or to tell me she was running late. I got dressed and walked out. Explained on my way out why I was leaving. Of course, they said she was going in to see now... you don't want to wait?? Obviously not. Mind you, this appointment was rescheduled by them, because she had a family emergency and they cancelled my appointment from three weeks ago. Obviously they are overbooking themselves to make their monthly revenue numbers, and have done nothing to service their customers. My time is just as important and expensive as yours. This place is down right ridiculous. I came in for an annual physical. I use to be with Kaiser and this was the first time I've been seen by PPO physician for the past decade. Dr. Alvarado was referred to me by another physician friend. It took me two months for me to get an appointment. When I finally got there, I was offered to be seen by a nurse practitioner or else I needed to wait. I opted to see the doctor so I waited for 45 minutes. Dr. Alvarado was thorough and nice and claimed she was going to follow up with certain problems. (Spoiler alert, it never happened). The entire time she was more eager to fill in information on her ipad than wanting to hear about my medical conditions. She kept pushing me to take more tests and exams. Probably wanted to bill my insurance, which is fine, I rather have a thorough exam. I got the entire encore of prescribed blood tests. I was told that the blood work would be done in 4 days. Fast forward three weeks later, I kept waiting and waiting for the good doctor to call me back but the call never came. Finally I had to call and I had to wait another two days for someone to call me back. When I finally got the call, it was from a staff member and she was basically a robot. The staff member first said that the doctor was really busy. Who isn't? Do us all a favor and stop taking more patients if you are so busy. Your patients deserve more than this lackluster service you and your staff has been giving. At any rate, the staff member read from a script like a robot. When I asked her about blood pressure, triglycerides or vitamin levels, she just re-read the script. Dude serious? I can read if you email that script to me too. After I asked one too many questions, which in reality was like three questions total, the staff member got nervous and had to get off the phone and call me back. Two hours later, another staff member called and read me the same script. When I asked my follow up, this staff member had the gaul to tell me that she is not a licensed professional and therefore, cannot answer my questions. Again waste of time. I asked to speak to the doctor and she said the doctor was again too busy and I had to come in to get my questions answered. I try to set up a follow up and it was going to be another two weeks because the doctor doesn't work weekends, or after 3:00 pm or on any day of the week that ends with a day. Finally, I asked if I can set up an appointment to talk with the doctor on the phone. NO. Can I email her? NO. How about if she emails me? NO. Guess what, when do you want to set up your next annual appointment? NEVER. I'm done with Dr. Alvarado and her staff. read more

Dr. Alvarado loves what she does for a living. I look forward to my yearly physical so that I can see her. She takes the time to know you. Dr. Alvarado gives you the right advice to improve your health. Under her guidance, I graduated from my cholesterol medicine. I am so glad to be free from having to take those pills. It's strange to see some negative comments below b/c I had such a great experience with Dr Alvarado and her staff and I've been multiple times now. To me, the office is pristine (spacious and comfortable) especially compared to other dr offices I've been too in the LA area. I'd been struggling with intestinal issues, loads of hip pain and other multiple doctors/specialists who's diagnosis I questioned entirely. She took me in and actually listened to me. It actually felt like someone cared for once. She put me in touch with people she trusted inside my insurance network. I've got nothing but good things to say about Dr Alvarado, the office she works from and her staff. My only advice would be to know your insurance. Made an appointment for 3:30 yesterday and it was a great experience. The secretary working the window was sweet and super nice. The one thing I didn't really like was that I waited a LONG time to see the Dr. Got there around 3:10 and didn't see her till around 4:10. BUT, Dr. Alvarado is wonderful. She's such a happy person and the instant she walked into the room, I already felt comfortable, She was able to answer all my questions, we talked about my lower back pain and she looked over everything and gave me everything I needed to get xrays and labs done. Dr Alvarado has been my primary care physician for many years. I love how she takes time and really listens and gives you the best diagnosis. But I been pretty healthy until recently that I started having some medical issues. I not only have not been able to see her when my issues come up but I can only see the nurse practitioner that has no idea who I am and she doesn't listen to what you're telling her. I have been so disappointed that I feel like Dr Alvarado doesn't have time to see her loyal patients. I don't know if she is overwhelmed with patients or what exactly is going on in her office. The staff doesn't seem to know what to do all they do is pushed the nurse practitioner. I'm so discouraged that I'm looking for a new primary doctor. Very Sad........ read more

In the past 2 years the only way I can get into her office if I see the nurse practitioner otherwise I have to wait months or weeks to get to see the good doctor. This time it's the same thing. I'm sick and not feeling well, I'd like to see her. I can't....only the the nurse practitioner. What kind of a doctor this woman is who doesn't see sick patients only a week later if lucky. I agree with the reviews about her staff being so like machines. They do not think and are not flexible. Also, they do not follow up just like the doctor too. Dr. Alvarado needs to stop taking new patients and start paying attention and caring for the ones that she has. My father has been her patient for a while and I want him to change because she only sends him to do test and tests, and more tests and never discuss the test results with him or follow up. Also, he just spent a week at the hospital after he was admitted through the ER and she never care to go to see him. Not a doctor that I would recommend. She is way too busy for her patients. The staff will try to get you to see the nurse practitioner, who by the way, is not good either. read more

I WAS a fairly new patient but after today, I decided to find a new doctor after today. I never actually worked with the doctor. I only EVER get a NP. Today I had to cancel because my car battery died but was told that there is a $25 cancellation fee since I didn't cancel with 24 hours notice. Not that I planned to have my battery die. It is what it is and if a doctor's office needs $25 that much, I can find another doctor that is more understanding. read more

Dr. Elisa Alvarado was introduced to me by a friend who was a patient. Suffering from various symptoms, Dr. A ordered a battery of tests which concluded with a diagnosis of terminal cancer. Dr. A and her staff were absolutely compassionate and helpful through all stages of this process. Subsequently, a friend of mine who was looking for a general practitioner with a specialization in gerontology, asked for a recommendation. I have accompanied her to multiple appointments with Dr. A. While her Nurse Practitioner does start with the patient, Dr. A always sees the patient, has reviewed the notes, and is both attentive and has a manner which sets seniors at ease. She is thorough, looks straight at the patient, listens to her concerns, and, if needed, prescribes either further tests or appropriate medications. I have recommended Dr. A to other friends and am now a patient myself. I have never waited more than 10 or 15 minutes for an appointment. When possible I schedule early in the day and arrive early or on time. The staff is helpful and competent. Staff calls with test results, or, if the tests indicate bad news, a request to come in to see Dr. A. Her "bedside manner" is caring, compassionate and professional. I'm surprised too to see so many bad reviews for this office. I've been coming here consistently and have always been very happy with my experience. I have only met the doctor once, on my first visit. She was incredibly nice, relaxed, actually listened to me and seemed to care about learning my medical history etc. Did not rush at all, I got a warm feeling from her. Her "assistant", as some people are calling her- I'm assuming means the nurse practitioner, who I see most often. I'm just as happy with her service. She is very nice, listens and asks lots of questions, seems to really want to help fix whatever issue I'm having. She is a bit more "business-like" so maybe some people see it as cold? I don't see it. The nurses are very nice too and my wait has never been more than 20 mins or so. read more

The front office is horrible!!! It took 6 hours for them to get the doctor to call in a dyer prescription for me and then after dealing with them alllllll day; the pharmacist tells them the prescription needed to be submitted electronically and the front office never tells the doctor and closes the office! Meanwhile I am trying the emergency line repeatedly to see if the doctor on call can actually get the job done that they failed horribly to do! The negligence is beyond me and the doctor on call has yet to respond after an hour and a half!!!!! I will never use this office again! read more

I went to Dr. Alvarado today based on a referral from Huntington Hospital after I broke my tailbone. Normally I never stray from my normal GP but since I needed to see someone asap I took a chance and I'm glad I did! Dr. Alvarado took time to go through all of my new patient paper work step by step, went through the hospital report with me, and talked me through my medications and answered all of my questions regarding aftercare. She was warm, friendly, and did not rush me. I notice some negative reviews about the other staff but I did not have a bad experience at all; everyone seemed efficient and friendly. Comparing this to the people I normally see at my health center in Toluca Lake is like night and day; I think I found a new GP :) read more

Well....she's friendly, you gotta give her that! And yes she is very busy. but she always seems to find the time to keep up on my case..and forward me to the appropriate specialists when needed. I agree that her last assistant was about as pleasant as a dead fish....but mrs Pracilla was very professional and even knew how to preform the tests for a physical, which was not the case with the previous girls! Its really hard to finds a Dr in this town that actually cares about you...This one does, so I'm sticking with her unless that changes...I came to her from the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Health Care System .....So I know what a shit Dr really is like!On my first visit Dr A was reading over my chart from the VA...and looked at me, then up and down, and said "you are not diabetic" I have the machine right in the next room..so stop taking the meds for that. I took the test and she was right!No wonder I felt so shitty! In fact she got me off of most of the meds they had me on, as I didn't need them.....and I feel much better for it..Thanks Dr A ....... read more
