I've been going to Maecel for years, and I'm happy to read that she has so many devoted fans. Quite simply, she's the best. Irvine's a drive for me so I admit, I've cheated - sure, there are other good stylists, and sure, there are whole chains of inexpensive men's cuts, but no one gets it as right as Maecel does. Maecel accepts my swinging because she knows I'll always be back! One of Maecel's greatest tricks is she doesn't cut your hair exactly at its best length - wait for it - meaning, if she cuts it 'perfect,' as a guy, that form is gone within two weeks. But the time and detail Maecel puts into what looks like an uncomplicated cut (I usually go messy, fauxhawk-y, high and tight) gives me a week of it being a little short but still looking good, two+ weeks of it being in prime form, and then a gradual outgrowth that gets my butt back in the chair before I look like a dirty hippie. (There was a period where dirty hippie was exactly the look I was going for, and she did that too!) So kick back with a cold one, or wine, or my usual soda, and relax for about an hour, not counting delays, which are very common. I love Maecel but her schedule is not for people with short fuses. And be prepared, wherever you are, wherever you move to, you'll be driving to Irvine every month or so for life! read more

Assessed my hair and the condition of the hair. Told me what color and style that would bring out the hair and my face. No pressure on any level. My hair has never looked this nice. I got the same hairstylist: Maecel, who also gave my husband a military cut. We had specifically told her that we do NOT want that style. It's not just the style, the length is also very uneven. Cherise is wonderful! Over the past 6 years that I have been going to her, I have had a couple unfortunate hair mishaps from other stylists (only went to other people when I was in a different state for a few months) and she has gotten my hair back in top-top shape every time. Made an appointment with Maecel because it was time for a change... I had pretty scraggly hair that I used to have cut often from multiple stylists. I decided that I wanted it short, but I was terrified because I wasn't sure I could pull it off. I came here because of the positive reviews on Yelp and the fact that Maecel specializes in Men's hair, and I was NOT disappointed. The salon is in a convenient location, and the salon itself is very well decorated and spacious. Maecel is entertaining and great company, and I was instantly at ease. We talked about my hair for a bit; what I didn't like and what I wanted, and she pulled out a book filled with different hairstyles. She showed me one that she thought would look great, and away we went! Having my hair cut by Maecel was the single best haircut experience I have ever had. Not only does she take EXTREME care and detail when cutting my hair (with a razor for texture), but she ended the session with a neck and shoulder massage and treatment for my hair to keep it strong for a good, long time. I would gladly pay twice as much for the quality of service at Elegant Salon... it's not just about the cut, but also the experience in general. So relaxing and pleasant. I had such a great day after getting my hair cut. And the final result? Incredible. Maecel introduced me a product that gave my hair a "beachy" texture that changed the feel of my hair completely. Jimmy has been cutting my hair since 1994!! oh my God. i've veered off and gotten a few haircuts elsewhere, but i've stayed loyal for 98% of the time. haha obviously, he's been doing my do from before this salon's location; back at Illusion Hair and Nails, w/ Kim, who is another hairdresser that works at Elegant. anyway, Jimmy is reliable, friendly and will be as meticulous as you need him to be. i'll be sad the day he retires and buys his waterfront mansion in Vietnam. the salon: 5 stars. it's a fairly new salon. it's clean, nice and air conditioned when it's hot out, and easy to access off the 405. and all the other stylists are friendly. can't complain. read more

I have only been going to Elegant Salon for about a year, but I have been a client of Maecell's for 2.5 years. As previous reviewers have stated, she comes from 18|8 so is experienced with men's hair. Before going to Maecell, I had never received any compliments on my hair . However, after I began going to her, I then began to receive much positive feedback from friends/family. Before Maecell, I did not even think men's hair was a issue to be complimented on. The haircut sessions are very comfortable and I feel very pampered whenever I go, especially with the hot towel finish. Also important to note is that Maecell cleans you up very nicely, getting rid of virtually every piece of "hair debris" (which is great for those who get haircuts in the middle of the day and do not have the time to go home and shower after their haircut). The salon itself is in a convenient location with plenty of parking. There are quite a few restaurants, a mini-mart, and dry cleaning in the same complex as well, adding to the convenience factor. I went to see my facialist (licensed Esthetician) last week for a facial, eyebrows and threading. Sammie is wonderful! She is new to this shop but I have followed her from several shops, she is worth the travel time. Her new facility is very nice... peaceful, serene and very, very clean. Ask for her very special music and you will be in Reiki heaven. She is one of those special people with healing energy! Her touch is magic and you feel it. After my facial Sammie introduced me to Mado, and she promised to help me with my hair color. Mado was as good as her word... I left the salon with a new hair color (much, much better for my age group) and a new style, too! I have never been one to spend more than $12 on a haircut. My first experience doing so was with Tami at Elegant Salon. Since the first cut I have been back regularly and have even recommended friends to her! I feel totally pampered every time! The place is very nice and they treat you like a king! This review is for Gina. I popped in to Elegant Salon on the morning of my son's wedding (11/8/14). I had planned to do my ultra fine hair myself but did not do so well on the practice session. Gina was coloring her patron's hair when I walked in and asked if there was any way someone could blow and do my hair for the wedding. Gina offered to do the job while her gal was processing. Needless to say, she did an amazing job with my very fine hair!!! I have a shorter layered bob and she gave me an adorable curly 'do' that lasted through the evening and into the next day!! This review is for Maecel, not necessarily the salon overall. So this is my first Yelp review and as I literally stepped out of this place, I'm still pretty furious. Before I get into the actual review, I'll give some background. I haven't had a really bad haircut since I stopped going to $8 haircut places in my mid 20's. I'm 40 now and have had basically 4 girls who have cut my hair in the last 15 years and typically only change because my regular stylist either moves away or I move away. The last stylist prior to Maecel is up in LA and after I moved to Irvine over a year ago, I still trekked up to Century City to see her until it just became too hard to schedule and too far to drive earlier this year. I tested out 2 other stylists before Maecel and this was my 4th time going in. The previous positive reviews about her service are spot on...she does 'normally' provide good service and a good cut. She is a nice lady and so because of that I held my tongue the entire time tonight. So we set up an appointment for 6:30...I get there and basically waited until after 7pm before she started on my hair...she's been late before (typically 5-10 minutes) but usually because I'm her first client and she just seems tardy by nature...it's cool, I can live with that. So again, this is my 4th time with her and last time I asked her to cut it real short...use a clipper on the sides and blend it in up top and she did that just fine last time. I'm not sure whether it's because she had a long day or was just distracted, but this time around, she let the clipper go way past just my side and up toward the top of my head...she probably would have gone all the way if I hadn't pulled away saying "what are you doing???" But alas, the damage was done. Instead of pausing to ask or apologize, she just kept on going and said "I'll blend it in and make it look good." Seriously?? So as I sat in horror looking at my almost buzz cut head, she kept on working away as if nothing happened. Oh, she knew I was pissed because her normal chatty Cathy self went silent. The furrowed brow and constant muttering from me would make it obvious I was pissed. But...I didn't say anything...I didn't want to make a scene in front of other customers and cause trouble for the other stylists working. So as I sat there my face red, fuming and knowing I'd be wearing a hat for the next couple of weeks every chance I could get, she just kept working along not acknowledging she just f'd up my hair. I work in a very conservative corporate environment and a military cut isn't what I was going for. Okay, so then she starts coughing up a storm and THAT is what she decides to apologize for...cuz she had to cough. REALLY?? Okay so long story short, she went about the rest of the service as if nothing was wrong and I pretty much refused her blow-drying it and putting any products saying "what's there to blow dry or put product in??" I went to change and came back out to pay her. So you would think at this point, I'd get an apology or even asking if I was unhappy...nope. "What do you want me to charge on the card?" is all I got...as if she actually still expected a tip! So I said just put what I owe her...and I signed it off and stormed out. Now I'm sure those who are Maecel's customers already will continue to go there and heck, everyone makes mistakes, but to NOT acknowledge it AND still expect a tip? I could have done this haircut myself with a flowbee or a pair of cheap clippers! I wrote this review for those that are even considering going to her based on earlier reviews just so you have full information. I expect the demographic is like me...professionals who want a professional haircut. The lack of acknowledgement and professionalism is all I'm warning those considering going to her for the first time. Everyone does make mistakes, but I expect those I am paying for a service to at least acknowledge they made their customer unhappy. If you're a guy and insist on going to someone at this salon, the other stylist mentioned here...Cherise...seems to have clients who really do enjoy going to her. As for me, it looks like I'm going to have to start driving back up to LA to someone I can trust. read more

She specializes in men's haircuts and was previously at 18|8 before going out on her own. I am a young attorney and it is crucial to look your best when dealing with clients and your peers.
