I recently hired Elegant Floors to refinish my old-fashioned hardwood floors, and I must say that the finished result is absolutely stunning. I got my flooring done here and the initial interaction was good. However, if you are expecting them to come back and fix the issues, better to forget that! After a few months of the flooring done, I saw some issues come up - the LVT flooring tile moved out and there were gaps, some seams of the tiles ebbed and were raised and another couple of tiles had some bulges I tried contacting Scott and sent him pictures, but never heard back from him; I haven tried reaching out to him multiple times since via messages/calls, no response. That's just plain unprofessional and had I known earlier would've have avoided going with him read more

I recently bought a fixer upper, and the old carpet badly needed to be replace. We worked with Scott to figure out what kind of floors the old carpet was hiding and measure them, and some rooms turned out to have hardwood! Scott was very accommodating in providing us different quotes in case we needed to use a different floor material, and he recommended gemcore composite flooring for the other rooms which just had plywood flooring. For the hardwood floors he and Teri gave us various stain options, and I opted to lighten the floor. The team (led by Louis) did an amazing job, sanding and varnishing the floors. Took about a week to let it set and they installed gemcore for the other rooms. The flooring looks amazing now and I couldn't be happier. they also installed base boards for all the rooms and it really wraps up the whole feel of the place. They even added baseboards around the fireplace to match the gemcore and the room dividers. Somehow they also made my crawl space closet look so much better with the gemcore flooring, I was very impressed. Their guy Jerry also hauled away everything once the work was done, I'm quite amazing how he fit everything into his van with the amount of old carpet and under carpet they tore up. We did have a hiccup with not ordering the right amount of gemcore flooring at the start, but Scott and team made it right and they even worked late to finish it up once they got the rest of the materials. That's some dedication in my opinion :) additionally they also sanded up and cleaned one of our closets which had Cedar flooring which was nice to keep. We recently moved into a new house that already had hardwood flooring, but it was very banged up with lots of scuffs, color degradation and scratches (both surface level and deep). I contacted Elegant Floors to help me sand and refinish the floor and Scott quickly arrived to take a look at the floors. Upon inspection, he mentioned that it was actually engineered hardwood so they wouldn't be able to do any kind of sanding. Scott however did suggest an alternative where they would apply a top level coat that would remove a lot of the surface level scratches, scuffs, color degradation and provide an even sheen. I was a bit hesitant if this would actually work without any sanding but Scott convinced me otherwise. I am glad he did because the results are truly impressive. The difference is night and day. All of the cosmetic defects disappeared, other than deep scratched (as expected, without sanding). Scott and his team were also very prompt and scheduled for work to be done in the house within the week as I was on a tight schedule. Our hardwood floors were very worn and cracked in places. I was concerned they were in bad enough shape that we would need to rip them out and replace them. Scott and Elegant Floors got our 60+ year old floors looking about as good as new by refinishing the floors and replacing planks in a few spots. I wish I had taken some before pictures. Scott was friendly and arrived on time. We were scheduled to meet a day before the shelter in place took place. Many of our scheduled contractors did not show up, many did not even call. But Scott arrived and checked our place for a quotation. We were hoping to use them because we were so impressed with their Yelp reviews and their portfolio. However, it was unfortunate as the first quotation they gave us was $6,000, we felt it was too high as competitors who visited quoted us $3500 to $4000. We were later contacted again informing about the miscalculation and the actual price was $3500 (someone thought we were replacing the hardwood). However, by then it was too late as we already agreed to use another supplier. I am still giving this company a five because of Scott's professionalism during our consultation. Many of our flooring suppliers ghosted us. I wish we got the correct quotation from the start, we would have used them. Their pricing (the right quotation) was reasonable and you can see a lot of images from other people. We will definitely consider them for other projects. P.S. We discovered Elegant Floors on the Diamond Certified website, as they are one of three floor refinishers listed there for our area (Los Altos). We chose them based on their Yelp reviews and their Diamond Certified status -- and their price, which was very competitive -- and we're very glad that we did. They refinished approximately 2400 square feet of 3/4" thick African Rosewood throughout our home, which was originally installed with an aluminum oxide factory finish. The latter was very difficult to remove due to its extremely hard coating, and we needed to have a change order for the extra work that was required. Scott was very helpful at all stages of the project, giving us frequent updates and providing responses and assurances for all issues that we had. In one particular instance we needed new floor heating vents, and Scott handled this very effectively. Another feature of their company is their Dust Containment System, which significantly reduces the dust and consists of an large trailer that is parked on the property for the duration of the project. The result of their work is an entirely new floor, looking like a custom flooring job with all the factory bevels removed. More delightedly, all the sun bleaching from fifteen years of use is entirely gone. Based on all of the above we enthusiastically recommend Elegant Floors for their refinishing work. read more

These guys are amazing I called them on a friday Dec 3 and let them know i needed this done for christmas and scott worked his magic. Had the place measured out and had a quote (which was very competitive) ready for me in a very short time. I approved the quote they started work the next week! 4 days response and 3 days to finish a large job i was amazed . They had to patch and match 35 year-old hard wood floor which is no easy task ...the repair is undetectable and the finish makes my floors look modern with a much lighter color which is exactly what the wife wanted (happy wife.....) They also did all the baseboard for what it would have cost me in material and a sore back! After new years they will be doing our great room in new hardwood and i cant believe how everything looks. flush mounted heater vents and a transition threshold from the tile entry way were the touches that set these guys apart from others I have seen. We've used Elegant Floors for two separate projects. The first one involved refinishing our hallway and guest bedrooms, while the second required laying brand new flooring in two unfinished bedrooms. I'm relieved to say that there is now consistent, seamless flooring throughout that section of the house. Somehow a discoloration appeared on the wood (from the painter? We'll never know), and EF came out and fixed it free of charge. A special shout out to Ruben, whose kindness and professionalism impressed us both. Seriously?? This misguided owner is totally making this up or he has me confused with someone else. First of all it's not a "one room restoration" but the entire first floor. Secondly from what I gathered is that their one day sanding system does not work in my situation. Don't know why and I had no problems trying to listen to his explanations as it would have saved us a lot of time if it could have been done as this company's flyer states. Very confusing advertising on the part of this company and yes; if you feel that you need to be wary of customers because they are getting a second bid then I can only assume that it's because you dont want to offer competitive pricing and also you dont want the business . I am back on Yelp to sing the praises of what I think is the most amazing hardwood floor company in the Bay Area!! Elegant Floors has now completed three jobs for us--each one more impressive than the next!! They installed a gorgeous and heavily patterned hardwood in our upstairs bedroom and seriously--it looks like a piece of art. They sanded and refinished our entire downstairs after our recirculating hot water line burst and warped the entire floor--it is simply gorgeous and you would never know that any damage had occurred. This last job, though, is the one in which Elegant Floors worked miracles. . . Our rental property is a 1960's ranch style home which had been carpeted since the early 80's. Tenant after tenant has lived in this house with a menagerie of dogs and cats (as animal lovers, we insist that our renters HAVE animals). After our last tenants moved out, we went over to assess what would need to be done for our dear friends to move in (in two months, no less) . . . Upon entering the house, the smell of animal urine literally stung our eyes and noses. It was BAD. With this home being a rental, we decided that the cheapest route in remedying this would be to call, say, a Home Depot, and have them pull up the damaged floor and lay some laminate. The "cheap" estimate? ALMOST $13,000!! We pulled up the carpet ourselves to have a look at the floor underneath. It was hardwood, alright--saturated with animal pee hardwood. Huge dark spots covered the floor. We decided that it couldn't hurt to give Elegant Floors a call, because if we were going to spend a bunch of money, it may as well be to people we know and trust. Within 24 hours, Scott, the owner, was at our place. His word? "Wow." And then he placed a call to his foreman, Brian. Brian cam right over. Together, we walked through the house. I kept talking about laminate, and finally, Brian asked, "Well, what do you WANT?" I said I wished we could save the hardwood. And Brian said, "Well, then--let's save the hardwood!" It took seven days for nearly 1500 feet of pee-stained, staple-filled hardwood to be turned into literally one of the most beautiful floors I had ever seen. We chose a mahogany stain that would hide any urine stains they couldn't get out, but those were so minimal by the time they were done that we could have glossed those floors and they would have looked beautiful. They replaced a couple of the worst pee-saturated areas (about 4 square feet total), but seriously--that was it. The best part? Gorgeous floors and not a whisp of urine scent anywhere! Our good friends moved in with their cats, and those cats have no idea the house was pee-saturated before (and cats have the most amazing sense of smell). So all you people out there looking for a flooring company who will finish dust free AND on time AND under-budget (the entire project came in at just over half of what Home Depot quoted--FOR LAMINATE--and, we got new baseboards, too!!) AND will solve even what you think are the most impossible issues related to flooring, HIRE THIS COMPANY!! They seriously are the most dedicated, skilled group of professionals with who I have had the pleasure of working!! read more

It pains me to write a one-star review, especially given all the great reviews that are posted for Elegant Floors. Unfortunately for my wife and I, we didn't get what we asked for. First the good news - the team at Elegant was fast and courteous. The showed up on time, kept our home free of dust and worked diligently. Unfortunately the end result was not what we wanted. Part of our floor refinishing included removing staples that were previously holding down a carpet pad. Our agreement included removing these stapes, and the phrase "remove tack strips and staples" was on our signed agreement. Unfortunately the team at Elegant decided to nail the staples into the floor and cover them with putty. This resulted in slivers of bare metal showing when the final sanding was completed, or wedges of off-color putty. For some staples they had used a heavy metal tool which was scraped over the wood, shearing off some staples and causing wood damage in the process. We had also agreed to pay nearly double our original estimate to replace all damaged wood with new boards. While a large section of water-damaged wood was replaced, the boards with staple damage in them were not. There was also an end-joint in the middle of the floor that was not flush, and there was a visible gap between those boards. We were expecting damage free wood everywhere. When we asked for resolution the proposal from Elegant was to push the staples down further in the floor and put on more putty. We went round and round on this proposal before they finally agreed to replace the worst of the damaged wood. My wife felt pressured by Elegant to accept putty as the right solution when she wanted the damaged wood replaced. After a bit of thinking we decided to hire someone else to replace the damaged wood. We just didn't feel comfortable going forward with repairs given the quality of work done and the pressure to avoid doing a complete replacement. The other contractor we hired told us that they had never seen anyone attempt to pound staples into wood and putty over them. The other team resolved our issues quickly by replacing and refinishing the damaged wood and now the floors look great. Elegant did give us a small discount for our trouble, and we appreciate the gesture, but it was a case of too little too late. If you've read this far you are probably wondering if you should hire Elegant. I can only imagine that given the many positive reviews elsewhere for this business you might have better luck than we did. We hired them based on their reviews and it looks like they have done a good job for many people. I realize that everyone has their good days and bad, and I would hope our case was a special circumstance for Elegant that won't happen again. read more

I had this firm installing some T&G fossilized bamboo floors in my home. They used staples to firm the wood to the subfloor. The staples damaged several planks (where the staples created visible bumps/cracked to the wood which are very visible under the light). Any high-end firm would have checked for these pieces and replaced them on the spot during installation. Unfortunately this didn't happen on my project. As a result my floor is decent (mainly because the material is very nice) but it presents several areas showing unnatural bumps/cracks in between panels. Definitively not a high end job. read more

EF did a small job for us, fixing/repainting our HW floor in the hallway. They were able to match the color to the existing floor (very challenging) perfectly, which is very impressive. They were not too accurate with the time estimates (how many days/nights the project will take). But, with wood coloring/sanding, etc., time can vary with weather/humidity, etc. Overall, a bit expensive, but very satisfied. read more

Elegant was one of the final two companies that I was considering out of 4 quotes I received for 1. installing new hardwood floors for one room, and 2. refinishing all existing hardwood floors. Scott was very professional and accommodating. He was able to deliver the new material before we had fumigation done, just as we requested. I opted for the "better" option for low VOC finish (see "tips" below). I also chose the "Bona Atomic Trailer" Ultimate Dust Free Extraction System. They definitely have very skilled people doing the sanding and applying the finish and I applaud the job well done. There was a delay and some miscellaneous things that caused me a bit of panic, but in the end everything worked out, and I think the final cost was within the range that I expected. Tips: 1. If you care about dust as I do, remind them right from the start to not do any sawing inside the house (thankfully I had multiple cameras inside the house 24/7 so I was able to get them to move the saw outside as soon as I spotted it being set up inside the family room) 2. ask about the brand/type of the finish prior to signing contract. I only learned about it right before they were about to apply the first coat. It turned out fine, but I think I would have felt more comfortable if I knew what it was. 3. communicate early if you have a deadline; start early if you could so you don't have to panic like I did over the approaching deadline, especially when there's a delay. Overall, I am quite happy with the job and would highly recommend Elegant. read more

When I pointed out the kinks and dings on our hardwood floors and asked if they could fix the issue, instead of answering my questions professionally, he was condescending and he trivialized my concerns. Elegant Floors refinished my kitchen floor and did some repair work on my hardwood floors in the bedroom and living room. Everything about working with this company was wonderful. Their price was fair, and the workers actually came when they said they would come (first time that's ever happened to me with outside contractors). The office even called me 30 minutes before the guys showed up to let me know they were on their way, which was really appreciated. The floors look great. Wow! I can't believe they could get a battered parquet floor to look like new again. They used a special system that didn't leave any dust at all. They even removed water damage and a deep stain from spilled olive oil. I had a warped flooring problem about 8 months after the floors was installed by Elegant floors. I contacted Scott the owner and he came out to inspect the floors. He did not understand why the floors was warped but after a few inspection by his supplier and my insurnace company, he came out and redid my floors at NO CHARGE to us. Elegant Floors refinished our hardwood floors last month and made what usually is a cumbersome process way more civilized. The "dustless" claim really is true....the work was spectacular. Moving our furniture out wasn't a huge deal either because Scott at Elegant suggested we use a "Zippy" storage trailer, which because it is street licensed, could sit the curb in front of our house which made the move a breeze. The final cost actually came in slightly below their estimate. When does that ever happen? All service was prompt, helpful and friendly. I would recommend this outfit to anyone...PG read more
