I had to get an Uber ride into Carytown from 8 miles out on the trail but Joel assured me they could take it in on Sunday. He said 'we are a full service' bike repair shop and we're open today so bring it in and we'll take a look at it. Upon arrival, I got a professional greeting and Joel gave me a realistic estimate of the cost and the time line for repairs. You got to like that level of service. Like most other shops in Carytown, you will be challenged to find parking. They have no dedicated lot so you'll walk 2 to 3 blocks to find street parking.

So much for trying to go to the local guy instead of buying from my friends out of town shop. Never making that mistake again.

I told him I was traveling an hour to test drive it and he said come on in. When I got there the bike wasn't there. The person there, Max, told me it was the manager I had spoken to. He couldn't find him. He also didn't appear to try too hard. Max made it clear that he wasn't the source of the problem. He also made it clear he was not going to be the source of a solution. Max's only concern was that the issue didn't affect him. When I made my displeasure known, Max told me to leave. The only help he was willing to provide was to help me out the door. Worst. Customer. Service. Ever. Carytown Bicycle fails to realize three important elements of business: 1. Business goes where it is welcomed. 2. People spend money where they feel appreciated. 3. He took the time to explain different types of bikes to me. We checked out acoustic and e-bikes. He asked detailed questions to see what I was looking for. I ended up trying a Verve +3 lowstep e-bike. Bryan took the time to answer all my questions about the bike and dive into interesting facts. His knowledge felt endless on bikes! Before trying the bike, he filled it with more air and tested its safety. He gave me a helmet and I got to test the bike in the Libbie Mill area. It was a fantastic bike! Although I didn't purchase it this go around I definitely will be back for any e-bike needs.
