Elden street tea shop is a small and cozy tea shop with a wide assortment of unique teas. There is seating available at the bar/counter area as well as tables in the back. The loose leaf tea cabinet at the front of the shop has little samples of tea for customers to smell. But the loose leafs tea to purchase is kept in large containers behind the register. I chose to go with 4oz of the earl grey and 4oz of the ceylon which came out to ~$65. $8.25/$8.95 per ounce. I also received a free 1oz bag of a black tea of my choice. The chocolate cherry I had was delicious and had a wonderful cherry flavor however the tea was very fine and there was a good amount of sediment left behind after each cup. read more

It's so hard to find a loose leaf tea shop, so having one so close to me is wonderful. They have plenty of teas for sale that you can purchase to take home or you can have them prepare you a tea. I really appreciate that they have their teas in jars that you can smell, so you can see which tea you like the smell of most. The last time I visited, I got a pot of blueberry pancake tea and two vanilla scones (with sides of jam and clotted cream) for $15. I have seen that they do a lot of events but I haven't been to any yet. They also have great workers who can help you pick out teas when you don't know what you are wanting. Great ambiance, great price. Service was a little slow, but thats ok. We were in a small room with a door, so we had privacy, especially while a party was held. The quiche was quite good, considering I don't really like quiche. We do wish that there what finger sandwiches though to complete the full experience. The scone was a little overdone, but still tasted delicious. They were very communicative via Facebook Messenger, but email was a little slower. The information on the website was a little outdated, so they were able to provide the full menu via messenger and email. I came here because I saw an Instagram post about how cute the place is. Unfortunately, on my first visit, I couldn't enjoy the interior because of a party that was being held. The second time I visited, however, it was open and you could enjoy the cute little rooms and entertainment in the dining area. I would say the main point of this place and what the business is banking on is the interior and not necessarily the food. I think the idea of afternoon tea is sold more than the actual tea itself. I had no idea this place was here or that Herndon had a tea shop. Its a cute little place to stop by and have a cup, we had a larger group and wanted the full tea experience so be sure to make reservations. It looked like they had drop ins for just tea sans the sandwiches. Overall the staff was terrific and attentive. They have a lot of options which can be overwhelming, in our group we had some tea drinkers who knew more about tea than most of us in our group so they gave some good input. At the time we were there several of the teas we wanted to try they didn't have that particular day, so the last tea of our group we had the staff pick one for us which it was good. All of the teas themselves they were good, we didn't order any earl gray or lady gray which generally speaking I'm not a fan of those anyways. The tea sandwiches were ok, I only had a few since some of the stuff in whatever my friend had selected was stuff I wasn't crazy about anyways. Although, as the name suggests the place is heavy on tea there are more than a few creative twists include "tea floats" (ice cream) something that's obvious but I hadn't seen before. For visitors do note that this is REALLY a tea shop. They don't have coffee, soda or anything else. While a few locally made pastries are for sale (a donut, I had was only okay), you're really coming here for the tea. No true kitchen. You can get hot tea and pastries (love their scones!) Everything is cute and furnished like a quaint little house. There's plenty of seating and other cute touches like a doll house! The food was very disappointing and expensive for an afternoon tea. The scone was dry, the blueberry tart was all gelatin, the spinach quiche was meh. Only 1 pot of tea for 2 people so you have to like the same flavor, or pay extra for a separate cup of tea. For 2 people, we spent over $50! They had around 40 teas on the menu but half of them were out of stock. I'm giving 3 stars because the people are nice and the idea for the tea shop is good. Staff are very friendly and helpful and more than happy to help guide you to the perfect tea to suit your tastes. You can sample your chosen tea on the premises or purchase it to go, just as you please. Food offerings are seasonal and include banana bread, fruit crumbles, muffins, brownies, cookies and quiches. They also offer a variety of fun themed events, including afternoon teas themed to Harry Potter, Beetlejuice and more. These events fill up quickly, so if you're interested be sure to reserve your spot early. Every pot of tea is made to order and brought out with a timer so that you can enjoy it at the perfect strength. Yes, you can get a refill of hot water for your pot also. Tea comes with cream and sugar on request. There are no milk substitutes or artificial sweeteners available, however, most of the teas I have sampled don't need sweetener or cream and are delicious just as they are. If you still feel the need for non-dairy creamer or sugar substitute you will have to bring your own. Prices are reasonable and the product is of a very high standard. Short Review: better for grab and go if you care about "regular" café provisions like cream, sugar, napkins, or stirrers. For loose leaf tea, it's hard to find a better shop. The organic lapsang is smokey, delicious divinity. I got a pot and literally changed my review from 3 to 4 stars, it's that good. Other types my group loved - blueberry pancakes, celebration (I hope this is a regularly stocked option, but bought 8 ozs just in case), and the butter beer. I love what this shop is doing, but there are a few things that are keeping it from being a great experience as a sit-down café: - No flatware - customers aren't able to cut a pastry for sharing or stir their tea. I've been told there's wooden options, but I haven't seen them in a few visits? - No sweetener/sugar - I've asked and there is Truvia behind the counter, but you have to ask, sometimes several times. - No cream - if a customer wants cream tea, no. There's no cream, milk, fake creamer, nothing. :( Update: owner says it exists, customers have to ask for it. Good to know, but wish it were noted somewhere. I feel guilty being a pain customer asking for sweetener, and then milk, and then a stir stick. Is the hope that customers won't ask and then there's less waste and supplies needed? - There are scones, but no jam nor clotted cream. Less of a issue, but I've heard others ask about this too. The scones I've tried are very good. It's an interesting experience because I love the cozy space; I love the community focus (artists, classes, etc); I love the tea selection; I love the tea accoutrements (timers, tea witches, bags, jewelry!, etc). When you go to a tea house, you want the whole quaint experience , not just drink tea. We heard that this place was a bit unique and charming and at first, it felt very cozy. We ordered two cups of fancy-named teas and after a very long wait at our table, they came in paper cups! We watched all the other customers enjoying their fancy teas in antique china and here we were in front of two regular paper cups , as if the order was to go. Let's not mention that the scones we also ordered were one third of a regular size scone. The whole experience was ruined. A few minutes after we got our order, the server came to the room we were in - to organize some silverware and plates and we couldn't even have a private conversation. I learned about this shop due to a member of my local social group that enjoys vintage style attire and heard about the themed events. The Pros: fabulous selection of teas. Tables and couches provide nice spaces to sit down and enjoy a cup. There is one room with a table that could accommodate a party of 6. Ceramic pot for one person serves 2 cups of tea, I loved the noodle as a stirrer from a global sustainability viewpoint. Savory and sweet pastries available. Small parking lot in back of the building. Outlets to plug in electronics. The Cons: I asked a few questions and was told to look at Facebook for their calendar. The stitch and sew nook made me curious about how often they have events and I was made to feel like it was a stupid question. Interacting with customers seemed not to be a priority. I made reservations for the Galentine's Tea. I was extremely disappointed. Weeks prior to the event I called and made reservations for 12:30 pm. The week before I received an email and call stating that they overbooked and have decided to have two seatings, 11:30 am and 2:00 pm. We were pressured to make a choice since managing reservations was not correctly handled. You can't overbook if this small place literally only takes names for what's available! I think it was handled inappropriately. Not the way business should be handled. It's unlikely I'll go back since advance reservations are not respected! Tea was also cold. I have read about this tea shop long before it moved into its permanent location. A friend gave me a $20.00 gift certificate, so I decided to give it a try. Finding the location was easy but no signs stating where to park but the is a driveway. The shop is in a historic building in the heart of downtown Herndon. They have the cutest shop sign of a big teapot! We walked into the front door and immediately hit a wall of people. We could not figure out who was in line to order, who was in line to purchase items or who was for some reason hanging out by the front door exit! First impression was cozy but crowded. After paying for our items & using the gift certificate ( no issues at all!), we found a table with two chairs right near the entrance to the first room and just pass the register line & front exit. We could not pull out our seats to sit, we had to scoot sideways after sitting to be sitting at the table correctly. Shop owner should really look into the dining flow because everything was crowded making the experience very uncomfortable. We ordered two different flavored iced teas, which were refreshing but the flavors were weak and should have been steeped longer. It was a warm day and I really didn't want a warm drink. I thought it was a cool idea that they use glass mason jars instead of plastic cups! They also used paper straws! Kudos for being kind to Mother Earth! With our iced tea we ordered two tarts to go with our drinks. The tarts were amazing!! They were just the right size, the crust was great & did not crumble. The flavors were outstanding! We shared a lemon tart & a peach/cherry tart. They were fresh and overall delightful. As with any business, when you are just starting you have you revamp things so every thing flows smoothly. I took my almost 3 year old to a special unicorn event here and she had the time of her life! We had delicious iced tea, a lovely tea sandwich and treat selection. Of course the highlight of the day was getting to see the two unicorns (horse/pony). We were both sad to leave at the end! Surprised no one has written a review for this cute little tea shop in oldtown Herndon! I work in the area, so I drop by sometimes during break for a cup of tea and a snack. This tea selection is fantastic. So happy they carry gyokuro, my favorite green tea. The store has a separate room where they have displayed each type of tea leaves/blend in glass containers, and you can smell them by lifting and sniffing the lid. They're also perfect as gifts. My mom bought a tea pot and a tea set from here as a Christmas present for a friend and she loved it. This is a good place for just cozying up with a good book and a cup of tea or catch up with some friends or play some board games. They also have a private tea room where they host private tea parties for people who reserve a spot. The shop is a great addition to the herndon area. Highly recommend checking it out read more

Nice, quaint little tea shop. Very confusing when you first enter- one must step in to a small room to pick out your tea. 4 people is already tight. We left and told them we will be back when they're not so overwhelmed. We came back in an hour later; We selected to purchase a bag of tea and we also would like to sit down and enjoy the tea that we just purchased. They gave us a different tea- taste like Lipton and then apologized later and said they were new; just open for two months- we got our paper cup tea and was a bit disappointed in the service.
