An unassuming little spot with excellent food! I got the pastor burrito, my husband got an assortment of street tacos. Soooo good.

Very expensive. Two tacos and one nachos was $28. I paid at the counter with a card and was not offered to provide a tip or sign anything. A few weeks later my bank statement showed I paid $33. Pretty sketchy that they added their own tip or changed the price on me. Will not go here again. read more

The food is still great and so is the service. My only issue is the major increase in prices. We ordered two bean and cheese burritos, one veggie and one asada burritos along with five chicken tacos. $108 not including tip. Was shocked by the price hikes. I know everything has gone up but these prices are definitely going to make me rethink where I go out to eat. The food is good but the prices are read more

Best food ever served by the best people everGo eat there. You won't regret it. And the salsa is to die for.

While looking for something to eat, we ran across this food truck. We didn't actually know it was a food truck (according to the map) but it is. The guys were really nice. We got chicken tacos (mild) and the nachos (medium) and both were really good! It took about 10 minutes to get our food, after ordering, but they have a few tables you can wait at and plenty of parking. read more

Very delicious excellent food and great service...thank you for being open in South weed

Prices have been updated but the menu is the same for the most part. Chips and salsa were decent. Burrito was alright for in town and was made quickly. Service was friendly. I wouldn't call it authentic, but not the worst burrito in town. Don't know if I'll be back. read more

Tacos were good but very small. Prices are double or more than the price of menu someone else kindly uploaded. Dinning room lacks ambience. Nothing visually stimulating. Bare walls. No tv. Nothing. read more

Their food is great, tasty, authentic and delicious. Their service was prompt and timely. The ambience is excellent since they remodeled a year or two ago. I highly recommend it! read more

From butte county to Yreka it is the best spot to stop for burritos within eyeshot of the I-5 that i know of. First time i stopped there seven years ago, now every time i pass through Yreka i stop if they are open. You cannot beat wood fire cooked meat, sorry no picture, i was busy eating. I will post a picture next time i stop. I always support local, especially when they are five star. read more

In Yreka for work and a friend requested this place. Didn't disappoint! Got some street tacos. Good deal and delicious. Carne asada and El Pastor are highly recommended. Horchata was legit! read more

I would give them a five star review had it not been for the unpleasant customer service. Hostess messed up our order, then gave us a hard time when we asked them to make it right. The food came out a plate at a time, missed three side items and the hot salsa we requested never came out. Food on the other hand was top notch! The carne azada torta was exceptional, best we've had ever! read more

El Zaguan - Outside of restaurant in Yreka - Mexican Near Me - Yreka, California

Ordered a carnitas burrito. Rice and beans in the burrito were so undercooked as to be inedible. The carnitas was the blandest carnitas I've ever had. It tasted like it was seasoned with chicken bouillon and chicken bouillon only. I ended up throwing the burrito away after struggling through maybe 1/3rd of it. Worst inexpensive Mexican food experience I've had in a while. read more

10 out of 10 recommend This is yet again another hidden treasure and an amazing one at! Carnitas burrito is a must have and if you add guacamole even better will be eating here again when coming on our next trip!!! THANK YOU EL ZAGUAN read more

Oh. My. We read some good reviews and intended to eat here. We drove up at about 3:45, and the place looked abandoned. Not a single car in the parking lot. But... the open light was on. So, we drove up to the door, but could not see anyone inside. We continued around the back of the building and were absolutely horrified at what we saw. There was garbage piled all around the rear entrance to the building. A presumably out-of-service taco truck sat next to the building and looked to be filled with garbage. A white SUV was parked next to the taco truck. There were stacks of wood across the parking lot, I assume for grilling the wood. I could only imagine what might be lurking in that mess. I could not reconcile what I was seeing with the good reviews. Needless to say, we kept driving and went to Puerto Vallarta for Mexican. Wow, folks, you really need to get your place cleaned up. read more

If your in the Yreka area and want some delicious tacos this is the place. The location isn't hard to find it's right off the main road way. Located outside you will see a large bbq grill/smoker. At 1st glance when coming on walk-in the place looks a little older, and painted in true Mexican fashion with bright colored walls, and some Mexican art work. The little waitresses was extremely helpful, and very polite. She took our order and the even asked the kitchen if they had the meat ready since it was just opened at 11 for service before checking us out. Her customer service was really amazing and good customer customer now a days is hard to find. The food was good we had tacos, and burritos. Some of the meats we tried were Chicken, and Asada, and chorizo, and last but not least carnitas, and El Pastor.. I must say the Carnitas are delicious ! Yelp was reviews were right on point with this spot. All the meats had an amazing flavor of them being smoked for hours. This restaurant allows you to eat inside the building and while we were there business was booming. My daughter and husband both stated the burritos filling and the rice and bean were so good. My husband loves El Pastor and we'll the hold ride home to Susanville he was telling how good this burrito was. Thanks Yreka we can't wait to come visit again and stop in. read more

This is not an impressive looking place-- nice paint job but sparsely decorated. However, the food is both generous and flavorful. We had two tacos, one carne asada, and one carnitas; the first one spicy and the other not. We also had a taco salad. The tacos were full of meat and the spicy carne asada was quite spicy. The taco salad was also very generous-- more meat, cheese and beans than lettuce. Also very flavorful. We could not finish it. The service was quick and polite. If you need ambience to enjoy yourself this may not be your place. If food is more important to you, give them a try. I would be glad to return. read more

This place is awesome! We noticed them smoking meats in front of the restaurant the day before and decided we needed to try it. I am so glad we did. We both got tacos. The chicken and beef were seriously delicious! Salsa had a nice heat to it. Chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful. If I was a local, I'd eat here weekly. read more

This place is awesome! It is divey... expect that. It also has REALLY good burritos. And I don't mean "good for Yreka" burritos. Good for anywhere burritos. And soooo cheap. Check the pictures for one of their menus with hours and pricing. $6 for a carne asada burrito as big as my head. Yesssss! A friend in the know tells me there are all kinds of things you can get that are not on the menu as well... tamales, chile rellenos, and taco salads to name a few. I haven't tried to order them so I can't confirm or deny haha. read more

Great tacos!! Cooked over wood on a big outdoor BBQ! Fantastic flavor and a great deal. Highly recommended.

Good prices an the food itself is enough reason to stop in 5 stars I just like Spanish cuisine it's really good

Driving thru Yreka, we were searching for something delicious for dinner while continuing our roadtrip - El Zaguan exceeded our expectations! From the quesadilla to the street tacos to my burrito, everything was so good. I ordered the pastor burrito and stepped outside to wait, while the family ordered, where I noticed the big wood fired grill. I was hoping it was used to prepare my bbq pork. I can say it most definitely was - this was favorite pastor ever. Truely BBQ'd, it was amazing. If you're in the mood for great Mexican food, do yourself (and this restaurant) a favor and drive the mile along I-5 and order your road-trip meal here. read more

Amazing service. Fast and delicious. The people there were so nice and welcoming. Words can't explain how amazing this place was.

Ordered takeout from here this weekend. I appreciate that they were quick and efficient with our order since it was within half an hour of closing. In all, we ordered 10 tacos and 2 burritos, hot. I wanted to order one of every meat for the tacos but I was informed they were out of several meats. So I ended up with 2 chicken, 2 beef, and 2 pork. The meat was all delicious! None of it was dry but was full of flavor. The beef wasn't ground but chunks of smoky/warm morsels of deliciousness. It came served on corn tortillas with shredded cilantro, onion, guacamole, and salsa. I also got the pork burrito, hot. The pork was delicious and juicy as well but the burrito was very mild. I ended up having to add my own hot sauce (lots of it.) all in all, I'd come back! read more

The building doesn't look good so very suspect and we were the only customers but we went in anyways...we ordered a chicken burrito and the kids ordered quesadillas. The burrito we ordered just like it came on the menu it was awesome. Fresh smoked chicken and something on the burrito had a hair of kick to it but just right. Kids loved their quesadillas. read more

Like others we found El Zaguan on Yelp, it was conveniently on our homeward journey from Corvallis to the Bay Area, its reviews were too good to be true. At the end of town we found El Zaguan, well actually we drove by it did a double take and turned around to go by it again. We pulled in at 6:30 on a Saturday night, the place is dead, flashing "OPEN" sign in the window. We looked the place over, it looked dead and dirty with no signs of life inside, it appeared to be closed up, no cars in the parking lot. Just on the sheer look we didn't step in, yes that is brutal, but there were four of us and none wanted to even attempt a visit. It you cannot look after your building and lot, god knows how the food is. 4/5 star reviews are way out of line for this establishment. read more

This use to be really good. It was solid through 2017. 2018 us either a bad year for them or it is just going to stay bad. Took my parents here a couple of months ago. Party of 4 and not one meal was "decent" . All the meat was over cooked, dry and flavorless. Definitely not the fresh taste they use to have. Portion were small. Overall a very lack luster meal. This is a taqueria so I expect good food and not a great atmosphere. This one has neither good food or atmosphere. Plenty of other options in Yreka that have average food but a good atmosphere. read more

Absolutely surprising find. We nearly didn't stop here, only one car out front... by the time we ordered other customers came in, and by the time we left there were multiple others in the restaurant and to-go. The food was very good, the chicken taco salad and carne asada nachos were both full of flavor and had the wood smoke grill flavor was just the extra part that makes this our new favorite in Yreka. The menu is short but that could change as business grows. I've had tacos and burritos. the veggie tacos were good but a little pricey. The meat tacos were well-flavored and juicy. However, the chile relleno I had was soggy even though I ordered it without sauce. They have fresh jamaica and horchata as well as sodas. Unfortunately, jamaica is not regularly on the menu. While there is music, it is American rock and that's not really what I want to hear in a Mexican restaurant. Service is fast even when the place is crowded at lunch hour. Could be the place to go for authentic Mexican food, but definitely needs some fine tuning. read more

My husband and I LOVE coming here and have never been disappointed. We're from the Bay Area and had little hope of finding good Mexican food that was low key and casual this far north. This place is everything we hoped for, and more! I'm a vegetarian, hubby's a carnivore, and we both leave there feeling satisfied! It's definitely a little hole in the wall kind of place, and that is exactly what we wanted; not a chevy's ripoff or expensive showy stuff- just delicious, flavorful food! I love the veggie tacos and the veggie burrito. The rice is great and everything always tastes fresh. Get it to go or eat it there, either way check it out and enjoy! read more

On the plus side, they have a BBQ grill out front, and appear to actually grill some of their meats, like the chicken, for extra flavor. But, as others have noted, if you just look at the back of the restaurant, it looks like a small garbage dump. Perhaps the kitchen is immaculately clean, but if someone can work next to all that rat-friendly trash all day, I suspect they'll develop a pretty lax attitude towards cleanliness. read more
