Friends were raving about this place and we thought we would give it another try after a poor service experience 4 years ago. First impression after being seated was the strong American/Mexican Sombrero atmosphere throughout which is nothing that I can get excited about as it says to me gringo food fresh out of the microwave. Chips and salsa was ok but lacked any cilantro which I believe contributes to good flavorful salsa. My Tacos Al pastor sided with refried beans and rice were ok however, the tortillas were lacking the tasty pork morsels I expected. (skimpy meat portions) If I ever return, I will stay with fajitas as the portion delivered to our friends was a much better value. Typical menu and beach prices. The food is always amazing. I the Verde Pork any way they make it, enchiladas, tostada or salad it's always so tender and flavorful. I've never been disappointed with it. Hubby loves their Tamales, and chili rellenos sometimes he orders the combo today it was just 2 rellenos and they were delish. Perhaps we didn't order the right dish, or perhaps the reviews were from people with lower standards. We ordered the menudo and a combo plate of chile relleno and shredded beef enchilada. Most of the food had little to no flavor. For being 20 dollars, the menudo should taste like more than water. We asked for some limes to try to give it some sort of character, and were charged 1.50 for that as well. The salsa was edible, but not nearly satisfying enough. Have you ever tried to microwave a day-old hard shell taco from Taco Bell? The shell comes out all soggy... that's exactly what this taco was. The plate was blazing hot and had obviously been placed in a microwave not long before it arrived at my table. This "taco" was 100% garbage. I hate paying for what I don't eat, and I tried my best to eat it but left a portion of it on the plate. The chicken enchilada: dry and boring. It was soooo basic and felt like the microwave dried out already dry chicken even more. It's just not very good. The cheese enchilada: way better than the chicken enchilada,it was flavorful and tasty. I actually enjoyed it. The chips and salsa were good as well - the rootbeer was just fine. As far as value you get a reasonable amount of food for your money. The problem is (for me at least) most of it just wasn't very good.... and I suspect the microwave gets a lot of work in the kitchen. The food came out FAST, and now I know why. They give you free chips and salsa. Their salsa is really good. The waitress that served us was very friendly and helpful. It comes with beans and rice. The beans looked like they came out of a can - grayish pink. Taco shells were from a box. There was no sauce or salsa. No sour cream or guacamole, just dry shredded beef. Hard to swallow. My boyfriend got veggie fajitas. Smelled great! But it was mostly onions and they weren't cooked enough. On the fence regarding this. The food is a solid 4 stars but the wait staff and decor more than made up for what the full dish lacked. Visited the restaurant on eve of reopening after the Plandemic and they were very busy. Forget the dish i had, was like flour tortillas filled with meat and covered with sauce and cheese. No matter, that part was extremely good! Didn't get the beans but opted for double rice and that was like meh, could've done without. The tortilla chips they served were excellent also. We should of left after the first chip, they were warm, which usually means they are fresh (NOT), they were stale and the salsa tasted like it was out of a can, I asked if they had any that was spicy. We ordered 2 combo plates everything was bland, no spices or salt, and the taco shell was stale to. It's obvious they put the plates in micro and nuke the out of them .
