I am shocked that a place like The Stand could go downhill so fast after new ownership. They no longer have blackbeans, no beers, it is $7 for a little tray of chips and salsa and the meal we had was horrible. I had a tostada that was on a limp shell that was fried in rancid grease. The beans were so runny that they resembled soup. It had FAKE sour cream on it and about a head of chopped iceberg. My friend's burrito was not even folded. Again, the beans were so runny that the thing fell apart. Something is seriously wrong with your green sauce. It tastes like diesel is in it. What a pity. After eating at the stand for 20 years, I'm not going to return. read more

They do have a vegan burrito on the menu which is cool. It has grilled veggies, lettuce, and black beans. It's okay but a little boring. Vegan cheese or a vegan chipotle aioli sauce and rice would make it much better, I make Mexican rice that is vegan all the time, it's easy to do. read more

We came to the Stand on a Friday night for dinner (Labor Day weekend). Everywhere else in town was packed but we were only the third table there when we walked in. It's counter service style where you order at the register and pick a table to sit. There was one person in the back cooking that we could see and one woman running the front of house. We waited a few minutes to be helped whilst she was delivering food and decided on what we were having. My oldest wanted tostadas but at home he usually just has meat and cheese on a traditional corn tortilla shell. This style he can eat 2. We asked the server how big the tostadas were and she showed with her hands the corn tortilla size but said they were packed high with lettuce and toppings. So we ordered 2 for him with beans and meat only and upgraded to asada. I ordered a carnitas tostada, my husband ordered carnitas nachos and my youngest ordered nachos with beans and cheese only. The tostadas were much bigger than we expected, they are made from a soft taco size flour tortilla that's deep fried. The portions were loaded up with beans and meat (and toppings on mine). Definitely worth the price. The nachos are made with melted cheese not a nacho cheese sauce. We also ordered chips and salsa. The chips were not home made sadly. The salsa was a fresh pico de gallo style with good flavor. All in all, the food was good, I'm Mexican and wouldn't go back if I was looking for authentic Mexican dishes (the food felt more Americanized) but everything was fresh and good portions for the price. read more

The locals only hours and cash only policy was always a turn off and I didn't want to write a mediocre review. While they are still closed every weekend and promptly at 5 PM weekdays, (3PM on Mondays) this casual fast service restaurant serves some of the best Mexican style food around. I ordered a smothered Chile Verde burrito (enchilada style) that was a loaf sized plate full of tender chunks of pork wrapped in a flour tortilla and slathered in a savory green sauce. No rice or bean filler here! All meat and tasty sauce! My plate was a true belly buster. The chips and fresh salsa (more like a Pico de guyo) side capped off our perfect lunch! Now accepting all credit cards and you order at the counter and they serve to your table. Three blocks from home, I will be back with an appetite! read more

Very friendly server. The little details in the decoration are adorable. Truthfully though, not the best Mexican food I've had. I had the combo bowl. I did like they had biodegradable containers. The Mexican rice was flavorful but dry. The carne asada was also very dry. The balance was the sour cream which I personally felt there was a tad too much of. We've been going to The Stand for years. We've always had a good experience there, however, we just went there yesterday for lunch and were quite disappointed! I ordered the chicken bowl and my husband ordered the chicken nachos. Both were underwhelming. Mine was a large bowl filled 3/4 of the way with pinto beans and Spanish rice with a small amount of pulled chicken on top. Bland and the chicken was very dry. My husbands was a handful of tortilla chips in a paper hamburger boat with the same dry chicken, pinto beans and a couple toppings. We would not order either one again. I'm not sure the son who took over is as committed to quality like his dad was. I hope our experience is not the new normal. read more

I've been curious about this place for about 20 years and after trying it this week, I'll never go back again. It was a very slow Tuesday night and I think we were the only customers. We placed an order to go and had chips and also while we waited. The service was fantastic, but the chips were clearly store-bought and the food was pretty terrible. For a five dollar taco it should be incredible. I got a chicken which I couldn't finish because it was so dry I couldn't swallow it. The Carnitas was too salty. And the shredded beef was Extraordinarily salty. The beans and rice were bland. With so many taco places in this town I feel like I wasted a perfectly good meal. My family and I went to Seaside over spring break and stoped by here for lunch before going hiking at the nearby Ecola Park. We ordered two chicken combo burritos, a carne asada combo burrito, and a veggie combo burrito (all combo burritos have rice, bean, cheese, sour cream, and pico de Gallo inside). Our total came out to about $35. The burritos were great and we could definitely tell that the tortillas were freshly made. My vegetable burrito was full of grilled squash, zucchini, and tomatoes. The rice was well-seasoned with tomato paste and the cheese was perfectly melted. My family said the carne asada was very flavorful and the chicken had a nice smoky flavor to it too. Our only complaint was that the burritos were oozing with too much sour cream; I would definitely get the sour cream on the side next time. Other than that, the burritos were the perfect Mexican lunch and so much better than Chipotle, especially considering that their burritos are similarly priced. Service was excellent and both the woman at the register and the server were very friendly and helpful. They serve you at the table if you eat indoors or outdoors at their dog-friendly patio. We looked at our location, found the five restaurants closest to us, and picked the one with the highest reviews which happened to be The Stand. Lucky us! We enjoyed an amazing lunch with nachos, amazing salsa, and delicious guacamole to start. We then had cheese enchiladas, veggie tacos, and huge burritos with plenty of rice and beans. The staff were all super friendly and helpful, and the sauces on the tables are delicious. There are a lot of great places to eat in Seaside, but I don't think we will be able to resist a return to the Stand. read more

I'm disappointed with 99% of eateries in Seaside. I'm glad this one is part of the 1% that's good. I was going to skip this place because every time I wanted to eat here it was closed! Today I finally decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed! They have a simple menu. Walk up, order and sit down. I had the pork enchiladas and a pork tamale. I was pleasantly surprised when they brought out the food. The presentation was not what I expected. Usually Mexican food is flat, everything looks smushed on the plate. This was not the case. The rice and beans were so fluffy! The tortillas looked home made. The Chile verde carnitas melted in my mouth but still had pieces with that char on them. The Tamale was one of the best I've had. I like everything. I haven't liked everything in awhile. I am even writing a review it was that good! If there's one place for Mexican in Seaside, this is it. I've tried at least 2 other places close by and they don't even come close. Plus the other "fancier" place is overpriced and they serve margarita from a bucket (like a paint bucket). Stopped for lunch today in Seaside. This place got great reviews on Yelp, so we thought we would give it a try. I ordered the fish taco plate and my husband had the veggie burrito. The fish tacos were good but the rice and beans were very bland. Bill said his burrito was just ok. Nothing special. COVID notes: there are a few picnic type tables outside for outdoor dining. The server was nice enough, put did not wear and actual mask but had a single layer flap of fabric hanging over her nose and mouth with a 6" string of decorative beads hanging on either side. We were recommended to this place by a friend who lives in the area, so admittedly we had big expectations for the food. They do have big portions, which is a plus for sure - especially with kids. However, the fish was a bit too fishy for my wife which is saying a lot. The carne asada plate was decent. It had really good veggies, good beans and decent rice. But the carne asada meat itself wasn't very good, nor was the shredded beef. The chips were pretty good and they brought some extra hot sauce to us which was solid. We also ordered extra tortillas and while some were soft and tasty, others were too burned and rather hard. This inconsistency was disappointing since the good one's were really good, but it was like playing roulette with my food! They did have great service which was friendly. There were also a lot of regulars here, so that's a good sign as well. Just a note that they don't take credit cards, it's cash or check only. Note that I'm giving them 4 stars since they were open during COVID, which is an extremely challenging time to run a restaurant. Otherwise, this would be more like a 3 star review. read more

Crap i'm a local. I've been coming here for 15 years. This place is no longer worth going to this much better place to go. Usually you get a fork. Usually, you get the other ingredients in a napkin and usually it's really good not anymore. I suggest not disappointing yourself. You can't even call them to voice your opinion when you do and you get voicemail the mailbox is full, they don't care they just another predatory business that prays on tourists. They will lose business because of it and and that will hurt them. What a shame. read more

Finally we found a great Mexican restaurant in the Seaside area. It's been here since 1990. Tried the pork carnitas taco and beef taco both amazing. The pork is really one of the best pork tacos I have had. You can tell they roast the meat for a long time. Went 10 minutes to closing excited to try the well reputed Mexican food, and smells great, go to open up my burrito and it's first of all, not rolled, and so full I would hardly call it a burrito. The beans were so salty it was hard to even swallow a bite. The meat was over cooked.. sad to waste $20 and leave with less than average customer service and lack luster effort to keep a simple staple food together!
