We hadn't had Mexican food for awhile. So when we were out shopping at FM for the 4th of July we drove by this restaurant. It was wonderful. We had 3 taco's and rice and a quesadilla (very large) and a taco. They were delicious. Everything had its own distinct of taste, not the same as so many other places. We were treated to chips, sauces and guacamole because they opened late. Wish we could buy chips like that at the store, they were so good! I was able to find mole sauce at this place which is sometimes hard to find. This is a family business and the wife is the cook so in my perspective they really put their heart into this place and it shows.The food was great! It is extremely clean and that is important to me. Call Burton because it's on a strip mall from the outside of didn't seem to impressive, outside is a very nice ambience to the interior. Decided to go with guacamole because that's one way I determine if Mexican restaurant is really good. Fresh made along with their own chips. You get 3 little cups of their sauce : green, red and avocado. Had three tacos and liked in this order: al pastor, chorizo, birria and steak. The latter was tender but lacked flavor. I'm so sad I forgot to take photos of my food. This is not an unusual occurrence when it comes to my dining experiences, especially if I'm really hungry and the food is really good! Which was the case in this instance. I did manage to take a photo of the menu, though. LOL! I've frequented El Catrin for the past few years. It's always been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, and their taco salad is my go to, almost every time! I wish I was more varied in my choosing, but I truly love their taco salad. I love the idea of eating the bowl....reminds me of a Mexican Willie Wonka! I usually get it with chicken but have had it with their asada and loved it just as much. You cannot go wrong in El Catrin. This restaurant is a hop skip and a jump over the bridge from Astoria in warrington with plenty of parking directly in front of the restaurant . When you factor in waking and parking it's less time. The food is comparable to or better than the local Mexican restaurants we enjoy in Southern California. I had the chicken and cheese enchiladas and my wife a burrito. Our meals came quickly and the presentation is nice. Frequented by locals. The owner is out front insuring the quality of the food and service. If we were her for the weekend we'd return to try the pazole. You'll be happy you made 5 to 7 minute drive. read more

Wow! Beats the competition! First look at the exterior does not give justice to the meal. Presentation of a world class chef. I had the seafood fajitas. I'm always wary of "market price" on the menu, but it was $25 including the drink! Fish was flaky, shrimp was tender. Even their chips were homemade - not commercially produced. The dining area is clean spacious and tastefully decorated. We visited for lunch and enjoyed the tasty fresh food and low prices compared to other places with lesser quality. Service was friendly and will definitely come again. Not your typical "sombrero" eatery but instead a great place. My wife enjoyed her margarita and said it was limey and well made. My family stopped here for lunch after seeing the great reviews. Every single person in our party RAVED about the food they ordered. The menu had some traditional offerings as well as some unusual offerings. It was so hard to choose. I had the almond chicken which was one of the best Mexican dishes I have ever had. My daughter's taco salad was amazing and she loved it. I can't remember what everyone else had but again, everyone finished every last bite on their plate. The chips and salsa were very good. What an amazing find...to get this kind of top-shelf Latin food in a strip mall along Hwy 101 in Warrenton. OMG. The food and presentation were fantastic. The server was polite and cared deeply about our experience. Not the fastest delivery (people are used to Mexican food being quick), but well worth the wait for carefully prepared and beautiful dishes. We just moved to the Long Beach Peninsula and will frequent this town for shopping a lot. We will definitely put this place on our list as an additional reason to visit! read more

Don't let the location - a strip mall off US 101 in Warrenton - dissuade you from checking out El Catrin! The food and service are most excellent! I have to admit that I was hesitant when my wife suggested this place. Mexican food in the Pacific NW has been - on average - such a nightmare. You usually get pre-plated 'Food Service' quality food warmed up in the oven. But not at El Catrin! I knew we were in for a different experience when our server indicated that he'd be making our margaritas by hand, no mix. Our meal began with a plate of fresh chips and three types of salsa in squeeze bottles. This was a great beginning! Next came our chicken flautas. Probably the best I've ever had. Clearly, they were made fresh when we ordered them. My wife had the Pork Pastor enchiladas. She loved them! Even a day or two later, the leftovers were great. She especially loved the beans that came with her meal. I had a Carnitas burrito, and I asked for some Chile Verde sauce on top. Excellent! Lots of tender pork. It tasted like what I remember from eating Chile Verde burritos in Central CA years ago. I can't recommend this place highly enough! We'd be going back tomorrow if they weren't closed for the 4th of July. Forget the outside. Just walk in, sit down, and expect to be impressed! You won't be disappointed. read more

I was very disappointed in this place. Food was not good at all. I ordered a dish that was supposed to have a pablamo pepper in it but when I got it there was no sign of a pepper in it!! The service was just ok. Then as the couple next to me left and the waitress cleaned the chairs with the same cloth she cleaned the table with! I will not be going back there again?
