From the moment we arrived, he seemed como que le apestaba la vida, and we were interrupting his afternoon. There was no "bienvenidos" just an attitude that lingered throughout the entire evening. During my first visit, service had a few hiccups because the restaurant was new and super busy. and there was only one waitress. However, her warmth, in addition to the orgullo you felt of one of us making it and opening a place that represents us and our Puerto Rican cuisine made up for any delays. This visit felt completely different. It was disappointing that we received more warmth and positive energy from the other patrons than from the people working there. The waiter, along with Chef Frances' wife, made us feel as though we were inconveniencing them when we asked a question or made a simple request--whether it was asking to repeat the specials, ordering a different drink, or requesting a candle for the flan so we could sing "Feliz Cumpleaños" to our friend. Keep in mind, this was a weekday and the restaurant was not busy. I'm truly happy that the restaurant is doing well, however, success should never come at the expense of hospitality. There are still many dishes I would like to try on the menu but I will think twice about it now as this was not the warm, welcoming experience one expects from una casa boricua.
