This place wasn't bad. I enjoyed my choice. My wife did not. She won't want to go back if I ever suggest it again. I think she was underwhelmed with her choice (chimichanga). Mine was good...but I tend to not be as picky as my wife. We did splurge and get a fried ice cream...not as good as I remembered other places. We met my sister and her husband. Got there at 9pm Saturday. Was not busy at all. 9:25 got our drinks. 9:50 got our meal. 10:10 bright house lights come on. 10:20 they turned up the music so loud that we couldn't even carry on a conversation! Waited for check even though at this time all of the staff was just staring at us to get out. No dessert offered. No refills offered. This has to be the Worst Mexican Restaurant Ever!! Passing thur Springfield and went here for dinner. We ordered the chicken fajitas for 2. It came out looking like it had sat out for 4 hours. Not much color in the food at all! So I took the plate (which should have been sizzling Hot) to the manager. He did not apologize just said I'll get you another one. The couple we were with was completely done eating when the fresh fajitas came out. They were sizzling and had color from being made Fresh! These did taste ok. I ordered my carry out at the S.Limestone store, I was given an incorrect timeframe which I understand things happen, but there was ZERO communication about anything. I stood there wondering what was happening. I got my food home and realized so had no queso ( which I paid for) so I drove back to the store. I told the fellow that I was missing queso and chips. He advised there were chips in my bag, which there was but I ordered a whole thing of queso and one bag wouldn't have been enough. I finally asked for a refund on the queso. Whatever. I got home to enjoy my now cold food and realized my chimichanga was chicken when I ordered ground beef. There was no attempt by this restaurant to make things right. To sum it all up we were pretty disappointed. Our waitress didn't pay a lot of attention to us. Water glasses not filled until requested (& waiting to find her!) and then another waiter actually got it for us. No, they weren't busy. My husband ordered 3 tacos, but substituted beef tips. His tacos came out but had nothing on them whatsoever. No lettuce, no cheese, literally only meat on taco shells. Sides were rice and beans, so he had to ask our "I don't give a crap" waitress and she brought him and our granddaughter a small bowl of cheese to share, (she ordered chicken tacos, same meal otherwise.). Her "side" was beans, no rice. They both never asked for me They ordered same meal with only different meat so we were confused with the whole thing! Her sauce was only the spicy red sauce. My husband got a small container of red and one of mild green sauce. I ordered a tamale and a taco. My food was okay. My taco came filled with lettuce and cheese. Very odd I got that but they didn't. The bill was just as confusing. Their 3 tacos were almost $14 My single taco was about $3. Worse food we've ever had. As someone who grew up with Mexican food, this as not it. Ordered a Burrito Mexicano had little to no flavor, my partner ordered a Quesadilla and came out burnt. My michelada was not made correctly only thing good on it was the takin rim. Side salads look like they were just thrown together. Service was horrible as well. Little to no interaction with the waiter. The place was noisy with constant ringing, sounded like a bell. I definitely will not be coming back! New location. Great service! Great food and beverages! Parking is challenging but worth the walk. Getting a table at 7pm on Sat was easy, but the place was crazy busy. Nice location... Much bigger. Good is very tasty. Salsa was just as good as always. Chips are a bit greasy.. Service was great! Drinks were great too... Perhaps a bit too much ice... But typical in a picture of Margarettias. Just visited our favorite Mexican place...its dollar draft night...I had 2 drafts and the bill came back for 14.00 for 2 drafts...wtf..dos equis draft is not part of the dollar draft menu...we are long time el toro fans and we remember the old el toro bechtle location...Rodrigo would never had allowed me to make that kind of purchase without questioning me about it...the service aspect was truly disappointing...I really wanted a couple dollar drafts like everyone else (the place was packed)...I was not informed that dos equis was not part of the promotion...live and learn I guess...it did weigh heavily on the servers tip... read more

Really good. Burrito tortillas are thin, not the kind that are thicker and hard to chew. Food is cooked well, rice is done well, beans are good too. Home cooked flavors, not overly spicy. Prices are reasonable. Service is good and food is amazing. I always leave with leftovers because I get full. In my opinion the south limestone location has a rude staff. We have eaten there twice and they are rude so I prefer the warm and inviting atmosphere of this location. read more

Last night we were the only people standing at the door and we waited about 5 minutes before anyone saw us. I told the person I was with, 2 more minutes and we're driving to Los Mariachis. Used to really love this restaurant, the staff is personable and had even remembered my boyfriend and I. Unfortunately the last 3 times I've been here, I've gotten food poisoning from different dishes. First time was a taco tuesday which I had 2 chicken soft tacos and beans, I was extremely dehydrated and nauseous for 4 days after this visit. Second time I ordered Steak fajitas and had the same result, my boyfriend had a chicken chimichanga and had nausea afterwards as well. I really wanted to give them one last chance which was honestly a mistake, ordered a beef chimichanga and had extreme vomiting/dizziness/dehydration for a week after my boyfriend also being extremely sick. All three of these experiences were between end of March, early April 2022. Really disappointed as we used to love this place, don't know it's a lack of cleanliness or cross contamination with raw meat. Don't recommend this location. read more

My family loves El Toro, its a restaurant we can all agree on. My dad is the Duke of one of them in Springfield in fact...with a ridiculous number of check ins. I think the primary reason my parents prefer this restaurant is that it is reasonably tasty, generally acceptable to all eaters, can accommodate our large family and extremely quick. You rarely wait more than 10 minutes before your food is brought out. There is little authenticity as far as the food or decor goes. It is americanized mexican food and is relatively greasy and heavy. It really is well flavored though and the salsa is a little addictive. As you can see from the available picture, this location recently built a patio on the front. Its kind of funny as it looks out on a parking lot, strip mall and walmart...not the most attractive patio vista. I've sat there before because the interior of this restaurant is dark (which I dislike) and in the summer they absolutely blast the air conditioning. The frigid summer temperatures may be a plus for many (like my dad) but I consider it a negative. I've noted that some reviews have commented on the un-polite staff. They are not warm and fuzzy...but they are also clearly actual mexicans/south americans and I've come to expect that non-american servers are a little more clipped. Having lived in europe and not a big fan of over enthusiasm in service I'm fine with this. Theres an olive garden across the street if you really insist on being bothered every five seconds with zealous confirmations of total and utter friendliness. Anyway, all in all there is quick service and hot good food. If you don't know where to take visitors or a group or a family, its an easy choice unlikely to offend. read more

And the menu lists a California burrito, as someone who was living in San Diego when this item was invented in San Diego in 1984, what el toro serves is just a burrito, not a california burrito. Tonight was our first experience with this El Toro location. I placed a carry out order consisting of a simple special request (frying the burrito as a chimichanga), and a combo meal. After being told it would be about 10 minutes, I received dinner nearly half an hour later. Hey, no big deal. They were a bit busy anyway. I get home, ready to make short work of the meal. My SO couldn't wait to try the burrito-turned-chimi. Upon further inspection, they charged me extra for something that wasn't done (hello, soggy cold tortilla!), and I was missing part of my combo meal. I rang them, unable to hear the person on the other line due to the noise. He yelled at me repeatedly to make sure I was still there, and misunderstood in thinking I wanted to place an order to go. After several awkward minutes of us repeating ourselves, he said it would be okay to come in tomorrow to make things right. So, we go back to our dinner, and SO finds what appears to be a rather long mustache or nose hair in his meal. We have loved El Toro in the past - there was one we frequented at least once per week prior to moving to Springfield. Guess I'll be cooking chile relleno's and chimichangas at home from now on. read more

I gave one star because I can't give anything smaller. I sat in the bar to wait on my fiancée, it took several minutes before anyone even took my drink order. When my fiancée and friends got there we moved to a booth and I immediately told the server that I hadn't paid for my drinks. The guy who was playing bartender came to the table to cash me out with a bill that was about $6 too much so instead of redoing it he left it as was and brought me $6 in change. He got no tip. Our waitress wasn't much better, if any. 2 of the 4 people at the table got partial orders and didn't get the rest of our food until we were nearly half done. I've eaten at, at least two other el toros and have never been treated so badly. The service sucked !! They will NEVER get any more of our money. read more
