The best food at any Mexican restaurant I've ever dined at. Very authentic to the region of Mexico the owner, who is also the main cook hails from. Top shelf meats, delicate rice, large servings. The chile rellenos are highly recommended, for dinner the mojito mexicano has 3 types of meat including the best and freshest chorizo your taste buds will ever indulge. Very low key and comfortable atmosphere and is reasonably priced. I've traveled the world and feel lucky to have found this place right in my own neck of the woods. Try it once, and you'll be back and back again. read more

After attempting to call the location several times regarding my order, I was finally able to speak with someone. Unfortunately, my order was missing three beef tacos, and instead of addressing the issue, I was accused of using inappropriate language, which is completely false. I have three witnesses who can verify that I remained respectful throughout the conversation. They were completely unprofessional! The order was placed directly through the restaurant's website using the confirmation link provided, and it was a pickup order, not a DoorDash delivery. Regardless, the missing items resulted from the order being packed incorrectly by the restaurant. What is most disappointing is that the restaurant has refused to refund the missing items or resolve the issue. I have been a loyal customer for years and typically visited twice a month without any problems. Did the ownership change?? At this time, I am unable to return to the restaurant because I am caring for my father, who has Sundowners, and it is not safe. I have photos and additional information available. They then deleted my Facebook Reivew - which is telling- read more

We were very impressed with our meal at El Toro Loco. Passing through town and in need of a filling meal, I spotted this option and it was a new one for us--the other positive reviews confirmed it for us. For those who say "all Mexican places" like this are "the same," I have news for you--they're not. Not even the supposed "Americanized" Mexican restaurants that populate various small towns around the country are "all the same". El Toro Loco proves that in multiple ways. The quality of food we had here was fantastic-- my wife had the street tacos with chicken. Three simple ingredients: chicken, cilantro, and corn tortillas. But each was top notch and together they were about as good as a taco can get. I went for the El Cabellero which was a nice sampler of multiple items: 1 chicken enchilada, 1 beef burrito, chile relleno, cheese quesadilla, and rice. The quality of every ingredient was noticeable. A simple cheese quesadilla is usually unimpressive-- not this one. Served in a crispy flapover tortilla filled to the brim with warm, smoky cheese, it was pure comfort food. The chile relleno was cooked to perfection, the mole sauce on the burrito truly great, the rice a step up from what you'd expect with real tomato flavor. Even the ground beef was good. Chips were thin, crispy and fresh, and the salsa had bite. I ordered a medium margarita and it was stout and flavorful. Our server was friendly, prices were fair, and everything was clean and welcoming. I've had a lot of mediocre Mexican food and this one was a fantastic surprise tucked away in an unassuming location. Will definitely return. read more

We are staying at Fort Massic and went into town for food. Very good chips, salsa and queso. Ordered off the lunch menu; got a chimichanga and some tacos. Good portions, good food, clean place with a good waitress. I'd definitely come back. :) read more

High quality, good tasting Tex Mex in the area. Chips and salsa are awesome. Love the cheese dip. Tortillas taste fresh made and I assume they are. Wasn't a fan of the margaritas but it may have just been an off day. Over all great lunch option. read more

Spectacularly great Mexican food served by friendly folks, most of whom are family members. El Toro Loco rivals some of the best and most authentic Mexican food restaurants in which I've eaten around the country. The place is spacious and clean, and the service is always speedy--even when it's during Superman Celebration. I've never had a bad meal here, and my favorite is the Fajitas Veracruz--a large plate piled with the most flavorful and delicious chicken and seafood mixed with squash and veggies. Another dish I've had is the Taco Salad--served in a fried flour tortilla and folded to resemble a large taco filled with ample amounts of veggies and meat. The Burritos Especial lunch special is a great deal--two burritos with plenty of beans & rice sides. I love this restaurant, and I hope you do, too! read more

A keeper!! 13 minute walk from casino. Chips and salsa on the house. Asked for x hot salsa which they have. Husband ordered beef chimichanga, 2 came on plate with rice and beans. HUGE portion. I had 3 street taco, one each steak, chicken, and pork with sides. So delicious and authentic. Pitcher of margaritas absolutely scrumptious. Waitress was friendly, delightful and spot on. interesting cliente despite being a Mexican restaurant in rural town metropolis name After DC comic book city of Superman but the city be named Smallville. anyways the name of the restaurant translated is the crazy bull. coming from Chicago price wise you get much for less. me and my friend ordered the steak and chicken fajitas and it was delicious. I ordered as an appetizer the guacamole dip and chips and they gave complimentary salsa. it was tasty however the chips seem to be light but some Grease the way they prepare it up here versus dry chips then I'm usually familiar with in Mexican restaurants. otherwise it is a decent restaurant. only disappointment was one of the servers said that they had a particular Mexican ethnic drink that they said they had but the other server said that they were out of it. read more

The thin crispy tortilla chips are delicious, the friendliest vibrant hostess greeted us promptly when entering and seated us were we we're comfortable. The water with lemon was refreshing after site seeing and walking around the Superman Towne Square, waiting for the food and I'm sure it'll be epic just from the great experience we're having already with chips and salsa that taste like an authentic caring set of hands crafted out of ripened tomatoes... read more

I was in town for Superman Celebration and El Toro had a tent set up on the street. I love Mexican food and wanted to try El Toro but was on a tight budget. I seen on their sign they was serving something called a walking taco. I did not know what it was but it was with in my budget so I decided to try it. When I walked up to the tent the guy working it said "Hi Jason glad to see you back this year." I was surprised he knew my name. We had some small talk while he fixed my order walking taco and Mexican cola. That was the BEST food I ever had it was hot spicy and delicious. I had three more before the day was over read more

We were so excited to find such a delicious Mexican restaurant in Metropolis, Il. We loved everything that we had. The chips are addicting, especially with their homemade salsa. We also tried the Queso- it was very cheesy. For dinner I wanted something with steak, so I ordered the El Papantla Steak (minus the shrimp). It was really delicious. The steak was seasoned just perfect. The steak melted in my mouth- so good. I also really like the rice that came on the side. Jenni got Chey's Burrito (named after the owner). She loved it!! I think that El Toro Loco could be the main reason to visit Metropolis and not Superman. Go visit them soon!! read more

The food was good. They have a large selection of items on the menu. Atmosphere was cozy and warm. Wait staff was very nice.

Sad to say I would love to give a higher review but I can't I asked repeatedly if my meal had any sort of fish in it and that was false it had shrimp in it which I'm highly allergic to I've been throwing up for the past hour with a massive swollen throat, and WTH is this cheesy rice that shit was chunky Rice from e .97 cent bag at Walmart it was horrible it's extremely sad to I've loved the Mexican food around here I've never had something this bad in years I really hope it improves read more

Awesome nachos and enchilada platter. Margaritas, were not weak no name drinks. You could taste the tequila and the mix was great. Highly recommend this place! read more

Great new Mexican restaurant. Newly opened in downtown Metropolis, El Toro Loco has not only great food but delightful ambiance from the historic building to the murals on the wall. My party had the vegetarian enchiladas, spinach and chicken enchiladas, and Chuy's burrito. The exceptional food and the friendly service created a great first experience. We will definitely be making a return visit! read more

This was our first dining spot on our 5 week cross country venture today. Even though we had a "sorry kids, park's closed" with a sand blasted Superman statue we still got a killer lunch. I freaking love me some Mexican breakfast. So I had to get some huevos con chorizo for lunch. Theirs was outstanding. The flavor in the chorizo was not messing around. This can be an overlooked dish, a menu filler at times, not here. It was a pleasant surprise once we took pictures with a nude colored Superman in scaffolding. Only thing that kept this from being 5 stars was the queso was just ok and the chips were a little oily. read more

I usually follow Lyle Lovett's rule of never eating Mexican food East of the Mississippi or north of Dallas. I was nicely surprised by how good this place was. We were downtown after visiting the Superman Museum, and it was about lunch time, so we decided to check it out. Salsa was a little mild for my taste, but overall the food was good and tasted fresh. Worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Loved this place! The decor is fun, the restaurant is clean, and the food is great! You can tell they use their own blends of spices to make their food unique to other Mexican restaurants. The best part though, is the excellent service. The staff is friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend this place! read more

This food far surpassed any other Mexican restaurant we have had in years ... our server was also excellent and offered different varieties of salsa and habenoro and jalapeño cream sauces. All excellent highly recommend!! read more

Popped in for a quick dinner while in town for work. They have an expansive menu with tons of options. I opted for the enchiladas vegetariana, which were delicious and featured one cheese enchilada, one with spinach, and one with potatoes/peppers/onions/tomatoes. Portion sizes are decent, but not overkill. They've only been open for a few weeks, and are worth checking out. Great service as well. read more

I've eaten here several times when visiting Southern Illinois. The restaurant is in a somewhat small location in Downtown Metropolis IL. On my most recent trip, I visited prior to six pm, as I was hungry early. They were not busy when I arrived, but loyal customers started flowing in shortly after I ordered, as testimony to the quality of this place. I am pleased to report, that like many businesses in this small town, the staff is genuinely attentive and helpful; as a bonus, the food is excellent as well. The prerequisite appetizer chips are crisp and paper-thin, and delightfully flavorful; the salsa is at a medium heat and delightful as well. Service was quick and repetitively attentive; my meal was excellent, as well as being a generous portion size. The tortillas appear to be homemade, and the tomatillo sauce was especially satisfying. I particularly appreciate the friendly, down home service, and plan to return regularly on future trips to the area. read more

A new place in town and I love it!! It's really cute inside, and the service is always friendly. They have lots of options on the menu, and I haven't picked a bad option yet. It is a little pricey, (other than the lunch menu) but for the options in metropolis you're definitely not going to be disappointed coming here! :) it's right down the road from the Superman Statue and attached to Sissy's Sweet Shoppe so you can enjoy a dessert afterwards! ;) read more
