Sundays are for brunch! We tried El Torito for brunch for the 1st time since our go to place closed down. We'd attempted brunch here 2 times before but it was packed & we didn't want to wait to be seated. This time we got lucky and the bar seating was open so we were able to sit down right away. We were greeted by the bartender Myriam who explained brunch, gave us the omelette order form, & off to the buffet we went. By the time we reached our seats, the mimosas were awaiting us. Came during lunch time and it was quite a crowd for that time of day on a Friday. We were served quickly and enjoyed the food. I got the lunch portion chicken fajitas, which comes with 4 tortillas, rice and beans. My mom had the chicken sour cream enchilada and loved them. Okay party people or should I say HH people. This is an okay spot. The HH menu is pretty darn good with plenty of options. We came in on a Saturday around 330 and the crowd was lite and service was quick. We ordered house margarita and draft beer. Both were okay as expected. The margarita could have used a little more punch and less sweet but who can complain for $5?!? We then ordered the mini chimis, street fries and sopes. All were good but what took them to the next level were the sauces. Yum! Nothing was over the top but all would satisfy a day of shopping at the plaza. Cons: napkins and place settings! Please give them to us! We need these to eat our food. My fiancé had to go grab some from the bar. One server to help the entire bar area. Not ideal when there are at least 20 plus tables. If I could give El Torito in the Riverside Plaza no stars I would. I have never seen a restaurant go down hill so quickly. First, before they turned over their entire great staff to mediocre, if not bad, we were warned by our favorite server not to come on Sundays. We were there mid-day only to watch drama in the lobby and out front because a patron was clearly over served. Our server said this is a common occurrence at this location due to the bottomless mimosas and a staff not paying attention to the liability of over serving their patrons. I can assure you the best of Riverside comes out for this sh*t show on Sunday, NOT. Now for the biggie, El Torito prides itself on all night happy hour in the bar. Well the bar is no longer the bar. You can't just walk in an grab a seat and enjoy an appetizer and a couple of drinks. The only open seating in the bar is the bar itself. Lastly night there were three open tables and a complete patio open, which by the way there is still COVID and this should be open, but we were told we had to check into the front desk for a table. We were informed it was a 45 minute wait. So no longer can you just go after work or before a movie, sit down, have an appetizer and a drink and leave. Now you have to follow the entire dinner crowd with extended wait times. El Torito Riverside has always had the best General Managers, wait staff, and bartenders. I wonder what happen because they are all gone and the service is awful. Waiters don't listen when you order and just bring you the wrong appetizers and blame it on you that they swore they heard Salmon Tacos. Their famous El Dueno is always three quarters full and cost $15, and they have taken fan favorites like the mini chimis off the appetizer menu. You know it is bad when the wait staff (old) tell you it is not a good place to frequent. Well, one less restaurant in Riverside to frequent, no wonder why many of us head out of town for a good meal and service. read more

Yikes... where do I even begin. I've been to an El Torito before and actually really enjoyed the food. This experience at this particular location was terrible though. We were seated at the bar seating, which was fine until I realized how filthy the area is. There were many tables where food was left to be cleaned up and flies EVERYWHERE. I killed 4-5 flies while we were inside dining, and we ate as fast as possible to get out as fast as possible. Not only that, there were mosquitos. Tons of them. I am well aware that this area has a mosquito problem, because I live close by, but inside a restaurant? Absolutely ridiculous. My husband was bit 5 times while inside that restaurant. It seems like a health code violation on so many levels. We ate our food as fast as humanly possible and got out of there. Food was ok, besides there being a hair in our chips. Service was ok. We will never be returning to this restaurant, and if you value your health I'd suggest a different place to eat as well. read more

I happen to come through here on an amazing night. Today was El Torito 65th anniversary and they were giving away 2 free tacos. My server Bertha informed me of this and from that point on, things just fell into awesome. That had $5 tequila shots and great happy hour prices. I invited my friends and they too were treated with the same hospitality and respect that she had showed me. This used to be my go to spot for happy hour until we received a watered down shot of fireball. The shot was a joke. We had to order another one in case we were not just seeing things. It looked like it was a watered slush. I have had my fair share of fireball shots and have worked at restaurants. I have never in my life seen something like this before. We informed the manager and the manager said it was a chilled shot and that it may be "watered down." The server told us it was a new chilled bottle plus another she topped off. I can assure you this shot was not fireball and if it was there was water added to it. I am pretty sure Fireball doesn't freeze like that. If it did it will not look like a the slush we received. Did I mention it was served from a Collector's Edition Bottle of Fireball that is black? So, one can't see what it looks like inside. I've researched where to purchase such bottle and I have found nothing but people selling empty bottles of it. I can't believe this happened and both shots cost us $18 altogether. I will not be returning to this location and will also advise my local friends and family of Riverside to not go here. (I will update with a picture of our shot soon.) read more

Wanted to have a nice brunch in a brunch atmosphere. Very little was nice. We ordered eggs first thing and took about 30 minutes to arrive. Incredibly noisy - hard to have a conversation at the table. Very crowded with tables that many people kept bumping into them or they into our table. A few servers, such a the women working the tacos had an attitude, bathrooms were DISGUSTING. When you have that many people you need to have someone monitor restrooms. I visited this location Tuesday of last month and wanted to share with you how the service and food has improved. While I know El Torito is not the place for truly authentic Mexican food, I have found it to be my last choice because of the low quality of the food and mediocre service. So, when I was invited to a business dinner at this location, I reluctantly accepted with very low expectations for a delicious meal. Well, let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised when my rice was hot and fluffy, well seasoned. The tortillas were fresh and meat portions just right. The chips and salsa were satisfactory. Best of all our serve was attentive and our food arrive promptly. There was even a mistake with the wrong type of meat in my tacos and the server fixed it immediately. No complaining necessary! The manager Ricardo came out to apologize and thank us for our patronage. I will definitely be back to the outdoor patio and this location! read more

My son ordered the Chicken Sour Cream Enchiladas and found what looked like a hair. Victor the manager came over to talk to us but made it a point to tell us he didn't think it was a hair that it was something from a tamale husk. It looked like a hair, it was black not brown. I felt that he was trying to diminish my sons feeling of being grossed out and make us feel like we were making a big deal out of nothing. He should have just apologized. So let me start by saying last week after a terrible meal I emailed the restaurant directly to let them know about the experience and what was terribly wrong and I got no repose. None!!! Not surprised but pretty crappy. So let me warn you all.... Chips-stale and old and the oil tasted like old dirty burned oil. Disgusting Rice- same. Old. Stale. Disgusting Beans- inedible. Not sure what can they come out of but seriously disgusting Enchiladas- hard cheese. Flavorless sauce Tacos- sad excuse for a taco. BOTH mine and my husbands meals were terrible and we left frustrated that we spent $45 with no satisfaction or full bellies. This restaurant needs major changes to their food quality and standards.
