We stopped by to grab food to go after a sunset cruise. Happy to find bbq after a week of tacos. We ordered fried pickles, a chicken sandwich with fries, and bbq chicken. The fried pickles were delicious with a light cornmeal coating served with ranch dressing. BBQ chicken came with fries and was juicy and sauced just right. I did not receive the chicken sandwich but rather a bbq chicken and rib combo served with fries. This appears to be a mistake but we didn't realize until we got home. Meat portions were quite large. Ribs were ok but I'm a rib snob so I wasn't overwhelmed but they were juicy and tender. I wish they gave us more fried pickles. I would return and recommend. Great location. I'm gonna give this place a 4-Mexican stars out of 5. Meaning, for Mexico, it's pretty dang good! The ribs go on HH from 2-4pm M-Fr. Two for the price of one and includes French fries and slaw. I order a combo special with ribs and chicken. The first time the chicken was juicy and tender but this time it was dry and flavorless. It's all good it happens. The sauce is consistent and they have some spicy sauce you can add on. The baked potato is fine but only comes with sour cream so ask for butter while it's hot. I personally don't love the slaw but I have friends who do. Found out today the coconut shrimp is the best in the marina. It's got good natural coconut flavor and texture with the shrimp still shining through the batter. Good sauce accompanying the meal. It's a special not an appetizer. I love the location and the service could be a bit better but overall it's good. I come back for ribs and wings and sports. read more

I was very underwhelmed by the food at El Torito. The only reason we stopped in was we wanted to see the game and the cab driver recommended El Torito. The food is VERY American. Being in Mexico, American food was the last thing I wanted to eat. We ordered the coconut shrimp, sampler platter, and a chopped rib sandwich. The food took forever to get after ordering. When it arrived, it didn't look very appetizing. The sauce the shrimp is dipped in looked like marmalade in a plastic cup. The flavor itself of the shrimp was just ok. The sauce that it comes with was really gross. I dipped one shrimp then never dipped again. The rib sandwich and sampler platter was meh. Again, nothing to rave about. Overall, the prices were a bit high and the food was just not good. The inside was air conditioned and had several sports games going, so that was a plus. read more

This is a tough review for me to write. Because I genuinely like most of the people who work there. They're all nice people, some of the food is good, and they show most NFL games. (They used to show them all but now they only show 4 different games at a time so you have to get there early to request your game). But the compliments end there. Generally speaking, the service sucks. You have to constantly ask for refills. Hell, most times I have to ask for just a menu when I sit down. One small saving grace was when one of the servers happened to remember what I drink so she brought it. Progress of a sort I suppose. But generally the servers will come to my table to take away an empty glass and fail to make the connection that maybe I want another??? This happens time after time. You can be sitting at your table, empty glass, make eye contact with a server and they'll look away, or, the thought of offering another drink doesn't even register. It's remarkable. The best thing on the menu is the wings. Most of the menu is average at best. It has been 4 weeks now that management has decided (yes, literally made the conscious choice) not to buy any of the ingredients to make any of the desserts on the menu. So when you want something sweet or on a hot day when you want an ice cream you'll just have to go elsewhere. Now the most recent kicker......I was in the restroom just now, blowing my nose FROM ALLERGIES in the stall and the manager mopping the floor accused me of sniffing cocaine. Unreal. I don't know if he was serious or joking but he didn't crack a smile. Not sure if I'll be back. I have been coming here every week of the NFL season when my team plays. I spend good money there. However I'm not sure it's worth it anymore. This place is the most convenient and dependable option to find my specific game on a given week but I will probably try to find a different restaurant. El Torito is located near much of the 'action' in Vallarta's south side. It's a very popular 'sports bar', so there are always several tv's going (but just ask, and there's always one that can be tuned into whatever event that's on the go at the time that you are there and particularly wish to see), and to go with the cold drinks served, there's a good menu of food offerings. But for us, when it comes to El Torito and their food, it's the bbq ribs. As an entree, the ribs (and they're large pork ones!!) are served with a baked potato or fries (we prefer the baked potato, with sour cream), cole slaw, and some crusty-toasted bread. It's a tasty, very hearty, and quite "messy" (on the hands!!) meal, and it's sure good!! We try do well with all that's put in front of us, but often have some rib leftovers to take back to our hotel room for lunch or snack the next day (unless of course, one of the neighbourhood dogs seeks us out, and gets his way before we get back to our hotel!!). The ribs are a daily on-the-menu item (for lunch and dinner), but there's a great afternoon (from 2-4pm) "two-for-one" special as well. They're a good value offering either way! El Torito offers some rather decently-prepared and reasonably-priced food and drink, and a casual, fun setting to enjoy it!! read more

ElT is a sports bar that contains its own sports book (i.e. a betting window). Which basically means it's heaven for my husband. One can bet and cash their winning ticket at a stand within the front of the restaurant's entry area. Of course there is a house edge, but not worlds apart from that taken in Vegas. Except without Vegas' B-S. ElT offers a full bar with plenty of drink specials, as a sports bar should. The drink pricing is about what you'd expect, meaning a slight upcharge to make up for overhead: the spacious seating, which is ample and includes one or two ten-seaters as well, plus the abundant TVs that cover the walls. Their defaults are NFL Football, International Football (soccer), NHL Hockey, and UFC and Boxing. They probably show basketball too but I'm never there in season. Most importantly, if they get the program, they'll change the channel for you and put you near the appropriate TV. There is also a full menu of Mexican food, made-from-scratch barbecue, and sports bar staples like wings and burgers. The food is fine, and certain items are even good, but it isn't the draw. I appreciate finding a place to watch US football (Lions) in Mexico televised on a Canadian channel. This place was packed on New Years Eve with fans of every team playing. Sadly, the service here is SOOOOOO slow. We were ordering beers that came in cans and bottles and noticed someone else drinking an enormous draft, never mentioned to us. We waited an extremely long time to order food and NO exceptions are allowed. We wanted rice instead of French fries, but even though the rice was less expensive on the menu, we would have had to pay extra for the switch. We ordered about a half hour ago and it just arrived. Wow. This place has been a staple in PV for years way before the high rises came in and ex pats started to flock to PV. I came in tonight with my family of ten . We promptly placed our order of ribs , coconut shrimp, and margaritas with two minutes of sitting down. Our drink order of Coronas and margaritas-- relatively standard-- needed to be reminded four times. Upon asking "quantos minutia mas..."for our food we were given no clear answer. After two hours of limited drink service and no food we finally canceled our food order. Soo extremely disappointed as the facilities is known to have wonderful ribs and shrimp but at what cost? Lots of TVs so you can get a great vantage point of any game. I came with a group of 15, no reservation on Thursday night and we watched the Miami Heat beat the OKC Thunder on every TV in the place. The drinks were good and cheap, and the service was good albeit a bit slow (we were a big party, so I cut them a break). Hell, they even gave us all individual checks! It's also near the water and in the mix of "downtown" Puerto Vallarta. We rolled to Zoo Bar & Lounge after that and it made for a great night. read more

A Mexican sports bar that serves decent BBQ ribs and has the most tvs in town. Not convinced the cleanliness is top notch but it's been a staple of the area for over 2 decades. Locals and tourists usually enjoy themselves here. One unique thing about Torito is they have a sports book where you can bet on most popular sporting events. It's the only place in the area I know that offers this feature. Four stars! When we are in PV we dont worry too much about atmosphere, and this is definitely just a sports bar atmosphere, but the ribs were FABULOUS! Very meaty, not fatty, wonderful flavor with 3 sauces to choose from. We had coconut shrimp for appetiser and there were plenty (and huge shrimp) for 4 of us to share. Great margaritas.
