During our cruise stop in Puerto Vallarta, we decided to have lunch at Andale's Restaurant & Bar. The main reason was to try their well-known Chile en Nogada and experience a local restaurant while we were in port. The restaurant itself was pleasant. Service was friendly, the atmosphere was lively, and it was a comfortable place to sit down, relax, and enjoy a meal. For visitors spending a few hours in town, it's an easy and convenient option. That said, after the meal, I felt the restaurant's biggest strengths were its location and atmosphere rather than the food itself. I specifically ordered the Chile en Nogada, which is considered one of their signature dishes. Presentation was beautiful: a large poblano pepper covered in a rich walnut sauce and topped with pomegranate seeds. It certainly looked impressive when it arrived at the table. The flavor, however, was not what I expected. The pepper was very soft and mild, with no heat at all. The filling combined meat, fruit, and spices, giving it a noticeable sweetness. The walnut sauce was thick, creamy, and nutty, but also surprisingly sweet. When everything came together in one bite, I tasted sweetness, savoriness, nuttiness, and the flavor of the pepper all at once. I can appreciate the complexity and understand why this dish is considered a traditional classic, but personally I struggled with the combination. As the meal went on, the sweetness became more prominent, and the dish started to feel like something caught between an entrée and a dessert. It wasn't bad--it just wasn't something I would order again. We also tried a few other Mexican dishes during the meal. They were perfectly acceptable, but nothing really stood out. The overall food quality felt average: not disappointing, but not memorable either. Throughout the meal, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was a restaurant designed primarily for visitors. The menu, atmosphere, and clientele all felt very tourist-oriented. For travelers looking for a convenient and comfortable place to eat, that may be exactly what they're looking for. But for those hoping to discover exceptional Mexican cuisine, I think there are probably better options in Puerto Vallarta. read more

We've passed by this bar a few times, enroute to our hotel, mostly during the evening. It's usually bustling with people inside and out. You'll find people engaged in all sorts of activities ....eating, drinking, dancing, and socializing. Andale is the place to have a great time. Today, for some reason, the restaurants and bars on the street seemed less crowded. It was a Wednesday night when we finally stepped foot into Andale's. We ordered margaritas, shots of anejo tequila, and a beverage; we had already had dinner elsewhere. The DJ was playing a mix of 90s R&B, reggaeton, country, and pop music, and the whistle blowing from the staff added to the lively and exciting atmosphere. I must admit, though, the loud whistle blowing now and then annoyed me, I managed to drown it out somehow. After a long morning of walking and exploring, I was ready for a good lunch. I had a place in mind, but it wasn't open yet, so I kept wandering... and that's when I passed right through Andale's. The sidewalk actually runs right between their outdoor seating and the entrance, so you can't help but notice it. It looked relaxed, not too busy, and the staff greeted me as I walked by. I took a quick look at the menu, spotted my favorite tacos, and that was all I needed--I stayed. I asked to sit outside since it was such a beautiful day, with a gentle breeze coming through. Perfect setting. I ordered a beer, some guacamole and chips to start, and the al pastor plate. The guacamole was a great portion--easily enough for two--and I loved that it was chunky with a nice texture and "bite" to it. It came with chips and salsa, making it a solid starter. Then came the al pastor tacos... so good. At first glance, I didn't see any pineapple and thought, wait a minute... but once I took a bite, I realized it was mixed in with the meat--little bits of sweetness tucked into the savory, slightly charred pork. That balance of flavors really brought it together. Service was friendly and attentive, and I noticed a few regulars stopping by and chatting with the staff. That's always a great sign--it tells you this place has a real connection with the people who come here often. Overall, great food, great service, and a welcoming vibe. Andale is a local restaurant located in Zona Romantica and was sight of dinner for us based on a recommendation from someone in our party. We love the guy, but we now ask more questions when he recommends somewhere... We had a reservation at 7pm, showed up around 6:30pm and we were able to be sat fairly quickly. We grabbed one of the tables on the second floor outdoor patio, which overlooked the streets. Great scenery and people watching from above. We appreciate the large fans they had blasting towards the space as well. We started with a round of drinks, margaritas of all varieties and a few beers. We also scooped up a few appetizers for the table including coconut shrimp and guacamole. The shrimp were well fried and mild in coconut flavor, but tasty. The guacamole came to the table with no chips, and given our location, our server did not come around too often, so by the time we got out chips, the mains were on the way to the table. Speaking of mains we got a variety of items from fish tacos, quesadillas to fajitas. Two of our dishes were delivered prepared incorrectly, still containing a sauce we requested not to have. Not the end of the world and we will chalk it up to language barriers. The food was okay, well priced, but mediocre at best. Service was rough. He was friendly when at our table, but very erratic, which is probably why he missed a few things during our orders. Additionally, he was scarce. We had to go downstairs twice for refills and accessories needed once our food made it to our table. Overall, we really wanted to love this place, but a solid 2.5 is all I can give at this time. read more

This is based on drinks and service.... Looking for a sports bar that was showing soccer was a little tricky in the area. But managed to find one. Also, killing time till we had to get to the airport. I've seen it numerous of time walking by to and from the beach but didn't take notice. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Pretty massive bar, which there was 2 downstairs. Service was nice and everyone was quite friendly. A big selection on drink. Full bar so whatever you like, I'm sure it can be prepared. Didn't have any food but the margaritas, wow. Massive for what it's worth. Tried the blended, spicy margaritas with tajin rim. It was a good kick the first sip. They know what they're doing. Chips and salsa was also brought out to munch on. I did do a quick browse of the menu, lunch wise did seemed pretty good. Your usual dishes, but did noticed a lot of people having the burgers. It's a nice sports bar/restaurant. Great margarita, price was great for what you get. Friendly staff and excellent service. read more

I give two stars because the food was very good. However, we had been told by the daytime staff that we could eat on the balcony, but this option was not offered by the nighttime staff. Our waitress acted like we were bothering her from the first, and after she left, some guy came along and slammed down a bottle of ketchup, as if we had asked him to go to the next town over to get it for us (we hadn't even asked for any ketchup). Then as we were waiting--a very long time--for our food, another waitress brought over our bill. I thought this was odd since we hadn't been served our food, yet; and when checking out the bill, there were many items on it that we did not order. A few moments later, our original waitress came back and took the bill, telling us that the other waitress had confused us with another party. My wife had a margarita and I had a Pepsi. The Pepsi was warm from the can, and I was given a glass with two ice cubes in it that melted in no time. The wait staff never seemed to notice me oggling them, so I went to the bar myself and requested more ice. The bartender gave me a glass of ice with no word or smile to speak of. The food finally arrived and we received no follow up service until I waved down some random worker and requested the bill. Basically, the night time wait staff is just plain rude. The day time folks seemed nice, though, so if you're going to go, maybe don't go in the evening when the grumpy gus crew is on their shift. P.s. we ate at many restaurants during our stay in Puerto Vallarta, and this was the only bad experience we had with the staff. read more

Today I finally had the bright idea to ask the server about the CHILE EN NOGADA - A poblano pepper stuffed with ground meat. dried fruits, with a cream cheese sauce and sprinkled with pomegranate and nuts, served with guacamole and beans. Absolutely blown away. Three times better than anything else I've ever had here which has always been decent. I can't imagine ordering anything else in the future. Four stars instead of five stars because the service was not as attentive as it could be, 15 minutes every time you wanted to flag somebody down for more coffee. The service is prompt, but beware if you don't like a drink or you send it back. They'll still try to charge you for it. This was a rip off. We ate there one night and it was OK, though a bit pricey, and we had to send the BBQ ribs back because we could not cut them. But the next night we came for dinner we never made it past drinks. The price of an almost half sized martini was as expensive as a New York cocktail. I was shocked. We went two doors down and had a nice meal at San Angel Cafe. No more Andele for me -- twice burned, forever shy. I paid my bill - not without some LOUD discussion. My fiance and I found this spot on trivago with lots of great reviews so this is my opinion. He order the Andale eggs with side of avocado. His plate was not tasty at all, potatoes were terrible. I orded the club sandwich, came with frys and bacon. Sandwich was ok, bacon over cooked and fry's a bit dry. Service was just ok. Nothing great or bad. Restaurant has a very unique infrastructure. Came here on our last day for breakfast because at 7:30am it was one of the only places open. Also at that time we were the only people there so we sat on the patio and got seated right away. I ordered the French toast breakfast with scrambled eggs and it was plated with a side of fruit. Service was great. The meal was fulfilling , delicious, served quick and a great last meal. For our last night in PV, we ventured out to the Zona Romántica to find a place to eat and party with our friends. We found both at Andale. This is institution in PV and highly recommend you go there if you are in town. While waiting for our friends to arrive, we went upstairs to the patio to order dinner. Ordered a couple excellent margaritas (mango & banana) which came with chips and guacamole salsa and for dinner I had coconut shrimp (with rice and veggies) while Shelly had bbq chicken breast (with fries and veggies). Last week we first visited Ándale for desayuna (breakfast). We have a darling housekeeper who is definitely Dah Boss! We leave our home and let her do her magic. We go to breakfast. Imagine our joy meeting Flor and Eddie spoiling us rotten at Ándule. Great food. Great ambience. I can't eat a lot, so Pan Francais (French Toast) is perfect because Gary and I have great leftovers! Great food, amazing staff. No matter what meal you eat. Always friendly. Always willing To accommodate your needs. They know I love double beans and no rice. They orange juice is so gos and so is their coffee. Now. At night it becomes the local "go to" place music blaring. A shot girl roams the place giving the most hilarious shots. Music is blaring and you can see everyone dancing around and having a great time. They have a great outdoor seating area. We always eat outside.
