My hubs and I were in town for a few days visiting family who are locals. I grew up outside of…read moreHouston and have a palette honed on good Mexican cuisine my whole life, or at least as authentic as you can find when most Tex-Mex establishments have to satisfy American tastes to stay open. Everything that was ordered at our table was just as good an any of the hundreds of places I've eaten in the Houston area, San Antonio, other regions in south Texas, and beyond. Their queso fundido was prepared differently from anything I've had elsewhere, to include sautéed onions and pepper, but I'm now a fan of El Patio's presentation. The only negative was that it was served with no flour tortillas, we had to ask for them separately. Any good queso fundido is served with warm flour tortillas. So do yourself a favor and order the queso fundido and ask for the tortillas to eat it with. All of the other dishes ordered by everyone in our party of five was delicious and fresh, from the beef street tacos, to the pollo San Jose, to their chili verde, all wonderful. I already know this will be a family tradition every time we come back to visit.
