The menu is a…read moremishmash of printed page and handwriting, the staff and clientele are nearly all Spanish speaking, it is spotless for dirt and there is Mexican football on the telly. The food is good. It's not fancy, and that should keep the snobs away, but it has the essential combination of scent, visuals, taste and the inner warmth a cook who loves a dish can make. You can do the El Typico half chicken, tacos which my sons say are rocking, steak platters in all their various combinations, and these wee Jammie cake style pupusa things. A novelty for me, very popular in Latin America apparently, they are enclosed buckwheat pancakes with a choice of fillings. Some of which you've never heard of, so try them. This is grass roots cooking, and I am a fan. In a low sodium World, the tropical propensity for salt is punkette, the spice combinations are unfamiliar but pleasing. Part of the meal I ate was a little dry, but that's what the excellent salsa is for, and everyone at the table is coming back. There is no booze, which is a good thing in working mens establishments playing football, and the while the drinks selection is authentic it is limited. Expect to pay fifteen bucks a head per adult, leaving plenty of opportunity for a jumbo tip. Don't go if you are stuck up.

I've been to this Colombian restaurant chain many times over the years, including locations in New…read moreJersey, Port Chester, and this review is specifically for the Nanuet location. Over the years, I've noticed that both the food quality and service have been inconsistent. There have been visits where I left very satisfied with both the staff and the food. However, there have also been occasions when unexpected charges appeared on the final bill, which was disappointing. On this most recent visit, the food was good overall, I'd describe it as average and fair for the price. The restaurant was busy, though not completely full, since they were showing the Brazil vs. Norway soccer match. They definitely have the setup and atmosphere for soccer fans, especially with the World Cup excitement. One downside involved our drinks. We ordered a Passion Fruit Margarita and a Passion Fruit Caipirinha. Since they looked almost identical, we weren't sure which was which when they arrived. The drinks were dropped off by the manager, not our waitress, and he walked away immediately. When we called him back to ask which drink was which, he replied in a slightly ironic tone, "Which one do you think it is?" We explained that was exactly why we were asking as we could not identify. He then said one had sugar on the rim and the other had salt. Unless you're a bartender or taste each drink, that's not immediately obvious. It wasn't a major issue, but I was surprised by the response. A simple, courteous answer would have been appreciated. There was another interaction that left a similar impression. We asked our waitress approximately how long the food would take because we were considering ordering an appetizer if the wait was long. Her response was simply, "I don't know, and I can't tell you how long." While I understand exact times aren't always possible, a more helpful response would have gone a long way. I would have gladly given this place one more star if those service interactions hadn't happened. The food was decent, but the customer service made the experience less enjoyable. I'm not sure whether I'll choose this location again, especially considering it isn't an inexpensive restaurant. I hope they can improve the level of hospitality because the food and for this World Cup season the soccer atmosphere certainly have potential.

We started with a Passion Fruit Caipirinha and Tamarindo Mojitos. Both were refreshing, well balanced, and full of tropical flavor. The cocktails were a highlight of the evening and paired perfectly with the food. The Picadera was especially impressive, with a generous variety of meats and traditional accompaniments that made it perfect for sharing. Casa Colombia delivered on all three things we look for when going out: great food, creative drinks, and delicious desserts. The portions were generous, the flavors felt authentic, and there was plenty to share and enjoy around the table. And just when we thought the evening couldn't get more entertaining, an impromptu karaoke performance added a fun and unexpected touch that made the night even more memorable. Definitely a place we would return to.

Food did take a little long to prepare, but it wasn't too far out of the ordinary considering they had to fry a whole fish. I had the Lomo en Crema de Champiñones, with a shared appetizer of Chicharrones. My mother and aunt shared the fried Tilapia with coconut rice. They thoroughly enjoyed it. My dish was delicious, hearty, and unexpected. Having been told that was the national dish of Colombia, it was well worth the try. The chicharrones were good, came out nice and hot with some green (verde) sauce similar to Peruvian Aji sauce, though not as spicy. The interior of the place is nice, definitely set up for sports with big flat screens everywhere. I'd imagine weekend nights are packed (I'd hope so). I'd definitely come back for different plates next time.
