The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very nicely decorated inside. Cozy, a little dark. There was a television on behind the counter, which was very loud and distracting. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and polite. I wanted take out, and while I was able to get it, there was no take out menu. The regular menu was well presented, but had many misspelled words. The food was delicious. I had a steak and chicken burrito that was fresh and basic. The side of chips with cheese and re-fried beans was tasty. The green sauce that came with the burrito was very spicy, something I did not expect but enjoyed. (I figured it was guacamole, and it wasn't). Overall, I would go back simply because of the food. read more

Worst service I ever had in my life Portions very small Food was ok I guess didn't get to eat much guess it was to hard for the waitress to bring more then 5 soft shells for 3 adults Will never return read more

I can't believe all of the good reviews this restaurant has. Absolutely terrible service, food was not anything special at all. Waitress does not LISTEN and is extremely rude. We wanted to go in loving this restaurant, hoping we'd found a little place to go out for dinner once in a while. The ghostland that it was on a friday night should have been a clue to turn around, and truly wish we had. Food wasn't terrible, but as someone who is Spanish I'd have to say the people calling this "The best authentic Mexican food" have never had real Mexican food to begin with. Do not be fooled by the good reviews, you'll get better service and better food from a damn chain restaurant sadly. I truly wish I had looked up reviews first, because every single negative review has hit the nail dead on the head with this place. read more

After moving back from Texas, my wife and I struggled to find a place for our Mexican fix till we found El Tequila. Yes, the place is small and the service can be slow but the food is legit. We recommend any of the enchilada dishes or the Pollo el Tequila which comes in a crème sauce. I keep saying I want to try one of their Tortas but I can never tear myself away from my favorites. And who needs booze when you can wash it all down with an ice cold Mexican Coke. ;-) read more

Unfortunately we had a less than desirable experience our first time trying the restaurant. The grilled chicken quesadilla tasted like the meat sat and dried out and there was barely any cheese. The waitress service was poor from the start. She acted like she had better things to do and didn't want to be bothered. When we asked what was on the quesadilla, to make sure it didn't have surprise refried beans, her response was, "it says on the menu" and pointed at the menu. We did not bother making a complaint, we just decided we wouldn't go back. read more

El Tequila is me and my wife's favorite restaurant! We love the Pescado A La Plancha (Tilapia) and the Chicken Chimichanga. read more

I love this place! Closer to authentic Mexican food that most other restaurants in the area, they have non-spicy guacamole which is beyond delicious!! and there is never a wait time. read more

Excellent!! It's very hard to find authentic Mexican food close by and at a good price, but since just trying this restaurant about a month ago with my family we have been back about 4 times now eating inside and ordering to go. The prices are affordable and the portion sizes are large. Now for me being a vegetarian it can be very difficult going out to eat, however I ordered the tres amigos enchiladas and replace the chicken and beef with cheese. My bf also got the tres amigos and that originally comes with one beef, one chicken, and one cheese and a side of rice and beans. My son ate the cheese quesadillas and the bistek taco, very good. For an appetizer we ordered nachos and chalupas. Both delicious. . For two meals of tres amigos, nachos, a taco, quesadilla, and two chalupas we paid about $50 Definitely a must try read more

Recently stopped here last week and we are back again today for the chimichanga el tequila! Service is great also!

It seems like the bad reviews might have been expecting more of a tex-mex blend, this is authentic mexican food like what you would find if you went to a restaurant in mexico. That being said some dishes here are better than others. I have had some really good dishes, others just kind of eh. Not sure how they prepare their chicken but it is very stringy and tough in a lot of their dishes. read more

The food is delicious and the service good. Every time we go in there is hardly anyone there so it is nice and quiet. The El Pastor tacos are my favorite! read more

One of our favorite Mexican places in the area. It's close by and very reasonably priced. We especially love the guacamole, fajitas, tacos, orchata, and chimichangas. Everything is authentic, fresh, and tastes delicious. Though it's not a fancy dining room, it is clean and spacious. Check it out, you won't be disappointed. read more

This place is a-ma-zing! The chiles relleno are probably the best in the region. I've been here twice in the past month and it's gotta be my favorite in the region read more

Friday night, none of us felt like cooking. Wife suggested the Mexican place next to wawa she drove by. Walked in and saw 2 families only here. Should have ran away then but I'm pretty willing to try anything once. So it's three of us,wife orders beef and chicken fajitas..instead of pico, regular tomatoes. Daughter orders fajitas ..no sour cream. Me? I'm easy..nothing special.steak fajitas. Not going to even mention when wife simply asks..do you have unsweetened ice tea? Waitress rolls her eyes and waves towards the machines and says..what's there is all, wife didn't bring her glasses..so just says nothing to drink. Fast forward ten minutes.. Food arrives... Instead of steak and chicken...wife has steak and shrimp, she's allergic to seafood...wonderfull... Big pile of pico.. Daughters plate full o sour cream.. O for two... Wife's dinner finally comes out finally.. Five tortillas fir three people? Really? The food really was decent but I can honestly say the service was the worst I've had worldwide, which really is ashame. Won't return read more

Authentic Mexican food and music in the restaurant. Very reasonable. Check out their specialties on the menu. Everything we had was very good service, bring your own tequila and mix they had shakers with margarita glasses. Enhance your drinks with salt, limes and ice!! My daughter said don't forget the free Wi-Fi!! read more

Dis food be shlappin shalppin so like u pull up and the food stay good good and the smells be going hard in the paint

Fresh, delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine. This restaurant is a hidden gem. It's in a high traffic location on the Black Horse Pike but the building lacks curb appeal. You'd easily pass it by and would never know how charming it is inside. Not an elegant upscale interior but clean and inviting. The nachos supremo were delicious. Freshly made tortillas with fresh salsa, black beans, cilantro, chicken chunks, jalapeño . Accompanied by two delicious smooth salsas (red & green). We had the chicken quesadillas and streak fajitas. All dishes were perfectly prepared, fresh and delicious. And the price was right. Dinner for 3 came in at about $40 (excluding tip) and was worth every penny. We'll definitely be back. read more

Went here with high expectations, was disappointed to say the least. The service was okay but there was nobody else in there so we had their undivided attention. I ordered chicken fajitas, my buddy ordered a chicken burrito. My plate had enough chicken to fill one tortilla, not quite what I expected. The chicken and peppers were okay, but the portion was way too small to be considered a meal. His burrito had more rice than chicken and he said it was bland. I love authentic Mexican food, but if I happen to be in the area again, I won't be returning here. read more

This place was awesome! We stopped here last night for dinner, and it was empty...honestly cannot figure out why. I worked at a mexican restaurant (that my best friend owned) and grew up at her house eating mexican almost every night, so I'm pretty picky. They start out with complimentary homemade (awesome) chips with refried beans and cojita cheese. A few of us got the Tex Mex Quesadillas served with fresh guac, also very good, and super flavorful chicken. We plan to go back again and again. Awesome awesome food. read more

Very good, authentic Mexican food. Bistek taco was a bit strange, as i swear they used cheesesteak meat, but everything else was great. Especially loved the chicken flautas and homemade salsas. Service was good as well. We'll definitely try this place again. read more

We just moved down the street and love Mexican so we were really hoping we had just found our new go to place and they definitely lived up to it! Nachos supreme, tacos, and enchiladas were all amazing. It was a cute and cozy environment with friendly service. Our food came quickly but we never felt rushed. We will definitely be back again and again. read more

We started with the nachos supreme, so fresh and delicious! Next was the chorizo and pork tacos, and pumpkin quesadilla which were amazing, then on to the steak burritos with red sauce which was huge and delicious! End that all with not one but two orders of flan since it was the best flan we have ever tasted. The kids loved the breaded chicken with rice too. The server was so friendly and attentive. This place is a hidden gem! read more

Highly disappointed with the wait for two simple burritos and two tacos. Still waiting over an hour and the waitresses say NOTHING!!!! Not coming back, I don't care how good it tastes. read more

The Mango tilapia salad was really, good all kinds of taste sweet, spicy and tender and the Supreme taco was also very good. Will recommend to anyone. read more

Food was OK, but service is poor. Waiter & waitress disappear for long periods of time and then don't look around when serving, so you have to shout to get they're attention. Waiter & waitress mumble so they can't be understood. Serious need for basic customer service training. BYOB, even though the name has Tequila in it. Sodas are bottles at $2 each, with no free refills. Menu is really badly designed. Very hard to read because its all fine-line script typeface on a dark busy background. read more

Tonight was my first time at El Tequila. I've lived in Runnemede for at least 8 years now and have passed this place many times, but have always been scared to try it. HOWEVER, if you LOVE Mexican food as much as I do, then you're in for a treat if you go here! Amazing amazing food, and service, and has probably one of THE BEST guacamoles I've ever had. You will NOT regret it. read more

El Tequila is one the best Mexican restaurants, it's a quaint place, very clean, and the food is absolutely delicious. I always get their chimichanga .. my favorite:) and their guacamole is awesome! Prices are good, location is convenient, and I can't say enough about the food. read more

A great Mexican restaurant! My husband and I took a chance from the other reviews on here. First the restaurant is easy to find off of the black horse pike. When we pulled into the parking lot there was only one other car which I am guessing was the owners. We were the only ones I. The restaurant for the first 15 min(More people came in later as we are). The place was so clean and nicely decorated. The chips that they gave before you order were delicious . I got a grilled chicken quesadilla and my husband ordered beef tacos and an appetizer of supreme nachos. Everything was amazing! Everything was fresh and tasted like authentic Mexican food. I use to travel to California often and have missed the Mexican food but I have found my New Mexican spot. Is a must try! We will be going here from now on when we want Mexican! read more

It's called El Tequila yet there is no alcohol! Terrible service, run down and dirty place, food was poor and over priced. I will never go here again. read more

My wife and I just moved to town and where saddened to have to move away from our local beloved Mexican restaurant. We passed by this place several times knowing that once we moved in we would have to try it. And OMG we where floored, the restaurant had great traditional ambiance and the service was top knotch. They served glass bottle sodas which personally is something I love. The food was amazing, my wife had the Taco Sombrero and I had the Chimichanga. Both where amazing. This place is 6 stars if I could give it. read more

Sorry but it was terrible there was nothing good about it, my mother my brother and myself all got food and no one was happy. My mom got beef sopes and it was minute steak extremely dry draped over the tortilla terrible, my chicken burrito couldn't have been more dry or had any less flavor and my brother had the same complaints read more

The mango tilapia is a must. Best mango salsa I've ever had. I always start with the Tinga Quesadilla and the Chicharone Taco.

Okay so I've been to this restaurant a handful of times and any time I've gone the food really wasn't that bad at all. However, this time when I went to go eat my food I found a live roach in the food, which really grossed me out lol. Probably won't go back there after this experience. Wonder what their kitchen looks like...... read more

Been here a handful of times and they never seem to let me down with the food. It's a BYOB so you can keep the cost down. Never really crowded. Always an open table. read more

I was impressed with the restaurant. I was impressed with the selection of food, drinks, and the prices. They have everything I like on the menu and interesting bottled drinks. It's not a dumpy Mexican restaurant and it has a good crowd of middle class type couples having dinner and . The only problems there is the service and they don't have dessert. I went on a Friday night and they only had one person working there to answer the phone taking orders and waiting tables. We had to keep asking the waitress for our drinks. I can over look this because I want to go back. It's deserving of 4 stars, but I give it 3 stars because if it had better service and dessert, I would give it 4 stars. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Check it out. read more

I really enjoy this place. Good food. Very reasonable prices. Nice staff. Clean and relaxed atmosphere.

One of my Fav Mexican Restaurants. I have tried almost everything on the menu and love it all and I'm very picky with Mexican food!

Awesome authentic Mexican cuisine. Tried the chicken chimichanga and it did not disappoint! This is definitely a new favorite :)

Don't let the outside fool you, this place is pretty good. The price is right and it's authentic. The chicken chimichangas were amazing! I will definitely go back to this restaurant! read more

Ate there tonight with my guy. Good food and good service. Clean restaurant too. We will be going back again.
