Thanks to Yelp for another great find in a city I have not been to yet. I was in the mood for a good Tex-Mex, and found this place to be perfect for what I was after. I I thought the service was very friendly and the atmosphere was great. A couple of TVs on at the bar and some good-looking drink specials. I decided on the Pollo Ranchero and homemade corn tortillas. Along with the complimentary chips and salsa, everything was great. Definitely worth the return trip. Yum. This IS the panhandle-- so keep that in mind when eating here. I really liked the beef al pastor tacos (Im a fan of the authentic trompo style found in Mexico- to be clear, this place doesnt do it that way) and thought the beef was a cool twist. Rice is a bit salty but was flavorful, better than the bland rice that is served in many restaurants. My wife had the pollo adobo plate, there was a pic somewhere of the chicken being a variety of thigh, drumstick, and breast-- but what she got was just a breast. She was a bit disappointed but the flavor was still good. Corn tortillas are pretty good- we usually dont like the thick style that usually comes with homemade tortillas but this one was a good balance- slightly thick but not overly so. We would return- at least I would, for the beef al pastor tacos! Sold! I'm also curious to try their queso next time. Ohh... and I had a side of a chile relleno. We were passing through Amarillo and decided to stop here and support local. We ordered the chilaquiles and ceviche tostadas. The food came out great and delicious. Service was also fast and fantastic. This is probably the second best place I've had ceviche at and I'll comment on why. It was fresh. Portion size was large. The fish to vegetable ratio was also perfect. Some places hardly add any fish and is mostly veggies and sometimes has too much liquid. The liquid is a dead give away on freshness (also the rotting soggy veggies). No liquid or rotting anything here . It was excellent. Almost forgot to mention the cost. You definitely get more than what you pay for. Super affordable for quality and quantity! We will recommend to friends and family that pass by Amarillo! read more

We were seated right away. Staff was nice and friendly. It was getting close to closing so they were scrubbing the floor behind the bar. While that is a good thing all I could smell was the cleaner they weee using. It overpowered the smell the food. Food was good. Chips were cold and seemed like they came out of a bag. The rice was really good. I don't eat meat so although there were a few meatless options I opted for a tostada. It wasn't bad, I am just use to the restaurants in Phoenix piling tostadas high with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. I had to ask for the lettuce as a bean tostada just had beans on it. Very disappointed. Went to eat with my friends and miss malena was very rude. Miss ma'am brought the wrong order out saying she didn't know what queso was.. our friend was VERY polite but miss ma'am decided to be rude and cuss my friend out in Spanish. She deserves to be fired. She should not be working in customer service. Worst server I have EVER had. Never EVER coming back to that restaurant until she had been dealt with. I'm very annoyed. Sat down and the table was dirty. Should have left right then. Took over an hour to get breakfast and no it was not busy. They just make you wait so long that you don't realize they will bring you whatever and not what you ordered. Huevos rancheros are not plain scrambled eggs like she tried to tell us. Chorizo was burnt and hard . Authentic? Canned beans are not authentic but good enough to hide the tasteless meat. Good thing they give you ONE tortilla each. Don't ask for potatoes. Yelp came through for us on this one! What a great find! The food was great, the service was great my beer was great! I was a happy camper. I had the carne asada tacos w/a nice cold Pacifico. My brother wasn't as in love with his meal. He had a chicken gordita w/a cheese enchilada. I think it was more of a bad choice of food items rather than a dislike of the taste. Upon arrival I was greeted and seated immediately. The waitress was very helpful and gave great suggestions. The chunky guacamole is their own and it is fresh! The Horchata is homemade as well. Haven't been to Amarillo for over a year and I have always liked El Tajavan.....so we made this our first stop! (My family and I would bring our Father here when he was alive, he loved this place!) Food was terrific, but most importantly, the service....Alejandra was MAGNIFICENT! She was on top her game and had such a great attitude! Had the burritos Xmas style (because that's my favorite) and was amazingly surprised! Beef with Red Sauce and Pork with Green sauce. All the food was good - rice beans, meat BUT the pork is AMAZING! We saw somewhere that this was a top 10 Tex Mex restaurant in Texas so we decided to stop in on our way home from vacation. The food was awesome. Homemade corn tortillas and a yummy marinade on the beef fajitas. Margaritas were pretty good too. The only downfall was the service. Was fine throughout dinner but once the server dropped the check, she disappeared. came here with my friends and had the worst customer service. My friend had ordered enchiladas de mole but queso instead of the mole. the order came with both, and my friend said she did not want it. the server was very rude and made her take it anyways. Even if she returned it back without eating any of it, they charged her anyway. this is awful customer service and I had never experienced something like this especially here. the food is great and it is highly disappointing that they still charged her without changing the order or giving her anything else. will never be coming back. read more
