Stopped by El Tapatio on a Saturday evening on the way back to St. Louis. I pass through Union often and have never been here. I was with my vegan friend and his dog so we chose to sit outside on the patio and they were very accommodating. I had the Tacos Alhambre (Corn tortillas, steak, bacon, chorizo, pineapple, and shredded cheese) and rice. I asked for no green pepper and no beans. The rice was kind of dry but I loved the tacos. Very flavorful. Chips and salsa were good. My vegan friend was thrilled with the vegetable fajitas. Friendly service. We'll be back! read more

We went there with a party of eight. The food was hot delivered quickly. It was tasty all in all a very well run and nice experience.

Margaritas are good every time. Food is always hot and very fast. Staff and waiters are always very friendly. It's definitely worth checking out. read more

This place had the largest birria tacos that I've ever seen, and the consome was SO good! I took a bite after dunking the taco into the consome and immediately thought that this meal was so comforting with its shredded beef, warm sauce, and oozy, cheesy goodness. They also don't skimp on the protein, so you're getting your monies worth! I wasn't able to eat more than 1.5 tacos and was concerned that it would be a soggy mess, but it was just as good after zapping it in the air fryer. 5/5 stars for flavor, portion size, value, and excellent service. read more

Food was average at best. Good quantity but just nothing special. Server tried but couldn't keep up. Maybe they were busy but the BIGGEST NEGATIVE was we had 2 guys celebrating birthdays and they came out with fried ice cream, churros (hard as bricks.). They sang to the guys in Spanish and here's where it went bad. As the manager was putting the ice cream down, he smashed the ice cream in one guy's face and gets ice cream in his shirt. This is NOT OK. Technically I think it's considered battery. There was no offer to clean the shirt, no apology or anything. He asked if the guy was angry and we said yes. Stopped in at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. Received the complementary chips and salsa but immediately ordered some queso cheese dip. I should.have just tasted the salsa. Wow, it was fantastic. I ordered what I normally do. Beef burrito and a beef taco. Tacos in my opinion are always little questionable of whether I will like them or not but being this is my first visit, I had to give them a shot. The hard taco shell was very crispy with great flavor. I don't know if they make them at the restaurant or not but they were very very good. They were filled over 50% with beef and just a little lettuce and cheese to cover the top. The service was adequate, I never ran out of chips nor drink. Literally my favorite food. Not just the best Mexican food, but my FAVORITE EVER. Makes my diet really hard to stick to lol

NOT dog friendly. We wanted to sit outside on the patio with our dog while we were traveling. We were told our dog was not allowed and had to stay outside the gate. Fortunately our dog is more well-behaved than the patrons of this restaurant. We had to watch a guy unzip his fly (the truck is from an Italian buffet in St Clair) and pee on his tire right outside of where we were sitting. Thank goodness for hand sanitizer. We informed the waitress of this and she just laughed. Won't go to either restaurant again. read more

We came here for an early dinner since we didn't want to get stuck in St. Louis traffic back to Chicago. I would say 3-3.5 stars. My guy says 3.5-4 stars, so I'll go with 4 stars. Service was okay for the most part. He did forget my guys tortillas and since he never came to check on us til later when my guy was almost done with his meal. My guy mentioned about his tortillas and he apologized and brought them out. My guy had a steak with mushroom and cheese sauce. He liked this sauce quite a bit. I thought it wasn't bad, but the steak was too well done for me. They didn't even ask him how he wanted it cook. I got the street tacos and it came with 1 fish taco, 1 steak, 1 chicken and 1 carnitas tacos. I only ate the fish taco and thought it was good. The salsa that comes with it is hot. I took the rest to go, but I thought the meats were seasoned good, but I was not fond of the tortilla. read more

We tried this place for the first time on the way to St. Louis, and it was delicious! Their salsa was some of the best I've ever had - it was somewhat spicy and had a good depth of flavor. The queso was also very good, and thankfully a bit thicker than at other restaurants. We tried the Burrito Especial and the Shrimp Chimichanga. Both were satisfyinf, we'll probably stop again next time we're through Union! read more

My family tends to default to Tex Mex or Mexican food when we cant think of somewhere else to go. El Tapatio is great for that. They also have a few dishes that we don't seem to find at other "cookie cutter" Mexican spots. The Fajitas Volcano... a variety of seafood with green and red peppers, onions and the mexi-salad fixings. They are also very accommodating for our scout committee meetings we occasionally have here. read more

Ordered a Togo order tonight and paid $40 for 3 meals. They didn't give us our rice and beans or chips and salsa or the cheese on two of our meals. I called to ask them to give us the stuff that was missing and the manager Adrien told me I was crazy and he new that I was wrong so I had to bring the food back. Ok. I took the food back and when we got there the manager informed us again that I was crazy and tried to refuse to refund our money. NEVER again will I go there. read more

The white cheese sauce and chimichanga is really good here. I dont usually stray from this meal because I love it. Service is great also.

Servers no mask. Not a one. The unbelievable. May be back at a future day but am still in shock.

Unbelievable food. We drive 25 miles to get here on a friend's recommendation. Well worth the drive.

First let's start with the employees. There were four of us. Two walked in, there was no sign at the door stating wether we should wait to be seated or not. There was a group of 4 teenage girl workers standing at the bar talking I asked "do we wait to be seated?" Very politely. A girl with long purple hair very rudely snaps at me "can you wait". I responded "I just didn't know if we wait to be seated or seat ourselves" "you wait" was the tires response. A few minutes later a different girl walks past me with the air that I was supposed to follow her. She walks to two tables joined together each which seats 4 people grabs the outer table and yanks it away from the other about 2 inches and scatters the chairs that were under the table. she takes two menus and slaps them on the table and walks away. I had to walk to the front to get two more menus. Our food was very good and our Mexican waiter was very nice but those girls soured my view of the place. read more

I ordered the tamales ala carte with rice as a side. It was hot but disgusting and didn't even resemble any tamale I have ever eaten. The meat did not taste good and the outer covering was hard and also tasted bad. I told the waiter it was lousy and he didn't offer to take it off my bill...To make matters worse my bill was padded. My bill was roughly $67.00 but we decided to have a drink before we left . I looked at the new bill and it was suddenly $129.00. All the items were listed correctly but the numbers were added wrong. When I brought it to the managers attention he said it was just a mistake but couldn't explain how it happened. It's not as if someone manually added the numbers--a machine does that.
