Absolute best. One time my dad was too late to get me a breakfast burrito from burrito boy/amigo (wherever the hell it was) and my dad felt really bad so he said "listen...it's not burrito boy but I got you something I think you'll like better." He came home with a breakfast burrito from El Taco and it was pretty much the best experience of my life. Life changing, I tell you. I haven't gone back to burrito boy since. This place is authentic, (I'm part Mexican, so I can say that with a lot of confidence) and WAY better priced than burrito boy. I always say "2x the authenticity, 1/2 the price." Literally. My daughter and I met here for dinner. She seemed to like the food as well as her husband. I had the carne asada burrito and it was huge but it was also tasteless and bland. The meat didn't seem to be seasoned and the beans unsalted. Even with picante sauce and salt at home, it tasted like I was trying to season a wet sock. I have tried tacos in various meats including lengua ( I wasn't a fan, personally), nachos and combo plates. I love the horchata! The food isn't the best I've had but its far from mediocre. I felt the taco meat was faitly dry and a bit spicy. I hear the burritos are amazing, I can say they are huge for the cost. This place is always busy, line out the door at lunch. This is indeed the place for Authentic Mexican food. I have spent a good amount of time around Mexican food, in fact I was pretty much raised on it down in Southern Calif and El Taco Express is about as good as it gets. When you first walk in you order at the counter, then you pick up your silverware at the silverware stand then you go have a seat and wait for number to be called, its what you might call a Mexican fast food place but dont let that put you off, I tell ya, when you walk out of El Taco Express you will have eaten your fill of quality Mexican food. I'm a big eater and it's about all I can do to put away a Taco Plate which consists of 3 tacos, salad, rice and beans and the portion will almost over flow a regular good size dinner place every time and all for $8? Good gravy, where else are you going to get a deal like that?? I honestly cant remember just how long I have been going to El Taco Express but my buddy Joe and I have been going there for lunch for over 10 years at least. El Taco Express isn't a fancy place by any means but it is all by it's self when it comes to Authentic. read more

I know I know.... usually when you see 5 stars you wonder if maybe someone is high on red or green taco sauce! I can assure you this place is a gem. First off, it's rather unexpected na strip mall with an awful parking lot. Its small and its quaint and the food is genuine and delicious. And my dad is also cheap. The food comes out with so much passion and flavor without being too overwhelming with spices. I've tried much of the menu and you can't go wrong here. It's a neighborhood place and has a feel of being down home and welcoming. I love how consistent the food is here as is the service. Typically you see the same guy taking your order with a smile and being very proud of the food being served up. This place reminds me of Mexican comfort food because you feel like your in someone's kitchen with the familia. There are lots of fancy places in town and even some glitzy places to butts this place is second to none when it comes down to the food. Its a hidden gem. read more

The best Mexican food I've had in Eugene!! The place looks like a dive but trust me it will be love at first bite.
