This was our second time ordering from El Sombrero, but first time visiting the restaurant. Our first experience was with delivery, the food was lukewarm, not the fault of the restaurant, just slow deliver on the part of one of the services in town, can't remember the service. The food was good, so we knew we needed to go there in person. Sunday June 28th 11:50am, lunch. Ordered Fiesta Fajitas minus the tomatoes. (Springfield is the only city I've known to add tomatoes to their fajitas, why?, YUCK!) and Pollo Fundido. For starters, the table salsa was excellent. The service was quick and friendly. Our food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. Sizzling fajita skillet makes me so happy! The flavor of the beef and chicken and shrimp were on point! Dare I say the best fajitas in Springfield. I've tried many and these were the best so far. Pollo Fundido was excellent as well. Very authentic rice, because there are potatoes in the mix. Re-fried beans were good as well. My wife stated that the soft flour tortillas were good as well. I was watching my carb intake so I just at my fajitas straight off the skillet. Safe to say, this is my wife's and I new favorite Mexican restaurant. If you want to experience what I believe to be one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants in Springfield, I would give El Sombrero a try. read more

My friend ordered a shrimp dish and I tried it and it was super delish but the tacos I got were super dry and when I asked the sever for the lettuce and tomatoes She brought them to me without telling me that it was an additional $4.... then the manager was being super creepy to me after I was very upset with the upcharge. I could have gone and had a lobster fest meal with how much I ended up paying for my dry tacos. read more

While their margaritas were decent, the service was terrible. We waited over an hour for an to-go order & we're told multiple times it would be another 15-20 minutes wait. By the time we had waited for around 1:30 hour we finally asked what was taking so long and our order was still at the back of the line. We asked for our money back and left. The food was good. Me and a friend went for Taco Tuesday which had 99 cent tacos and budlight beer. Which was a steal of a deal. The only thing was when we ordered another round of beers they were not what we ordered. Everything else was good. The staff was nice and the food was tasty. I would recommend it. I'm visiting from St. Louis and since I love Mexican food I was scouting out places to go. I spotted El Sombrero when I stopped in at another local business. After reading several positive reviews I decided to give the place a try. It was lunch time on President's Day but the place was far from crowded. The service was speedy and excellent. The food was very similar to other small places I've been to and they are all better than the national chains. I like how each customer gets their own bowl for salsa rather than one common bowl. I ordered fajitas and the tortillas were excellent. They were very warm and either made in-house or purchased from an authentic tortilla maker. Very yummy. Best Mexican in Springfield, for my money. Queso, salsa, and chips are exactly what you want from an authentic Mexican restaurant, and their fajitas are easily the best in town. Wait staff are friendly and entertaining (though probably not on purpose). We've never had bad service there, and we go regularly. My daughters and I Love this restaurant! Close to home, fast and yummy! If you shop at Dillon's next door on the back of the rspt is a coupon, buy one get one 1/2 off or fajitas for 2 for $15. I've never had a problem with the chef removing bell peppers (very allergic) from my meals. Their salsa is so good and not too hot, very fresh tomatoes. The heat is different every time we go there so it seems that it doesn't come out of a bottle/can. This is a great place to eat! read more

I am usually pretty forgiving when it comes to poor service especially if it is late at night or really busy, but when I came here neither was the case. There were two other tables and we had to get up and go to the back to ask for new drinks after ordering a sweet tea and getting regular, ordering them again and telling them it was still not sweet. They informed us that someone was playing a joke and switched the sweet and unsweet, which is pretty unsettling to me for someone to play with the food/drink I'm ingesting. The food came out and it was okay, nothing special. I do not like the quality of the sides (rice and beans) both had crunchy bits and made it very unpleasant. When we finished we waited for the check for a while and eventually just went to the front and asked for it. Probably won't go here again, and wouldn't recommend. read more

I love going to El Sombrero. Seating is always quick, service is always right on, and the food is always great. The few times there has been a problem they have always been willing to fix it. Their cheese dip is a great blend of cheeses with a little spice, which I love, and their chori pollo is wonderful. I've had a few other items off the menu, but I always go back to the chori pollo. El Sombrero is one the better Mexican restaurants in town. The depth of the menu is refreshing and they offer some dishes and quality ingredients that many other restaurants don't typically offer (flautas and chorizo for instance). My favorite dish is actually their nachos simply because the cheese sauce is some of the best I've had. The more traditional cuisine is very good and you can get tamales, tacos, burritos, rice, beans and so on a la carte. Chile relleno is also another simple highlight. read more

I have been to El Sombrero several times for lunch and enjoy their lunch. Today I tried Carnita (pork) and it was wonderful.

We make our weekly trips here. Friendly staff, food is the most flavorful of the other restaurants we've tried.

Made another weekly trip to the good ole Sombrero, they had 15 million people working as opposed to two or three, went in around noon, new staff, corporate moved in. Downsized the menu, what I ordered and what my girlfriend ordered were both removed from the menu we had to explain what we're used to getting. read more

Best Tuesday taco day. Absolutely great chicken, shredded white meat, very tender and flavor that is otof this world. The beef tacos were amazing, too. Again, flavor was better than the expensive restaurant (corporate) down the street. Staff are friendly and make you feel at home. Vegetarians are not forgotten. Most likely the best Mexican food around. The waiters are incredibly friendly and the steak burritos are great. I've only had one bad experience and I believe the waitress was having a bad day. El Sombrero is the BEST Mexican restaurant in Springfield! The food and service is always excellent! The servers are very good at what they do. We went there for the $.99 taco Tuesday and were pleasantly surprised with the amount of meat in the tacos. They weren't skimpy like other places in Springfield. These were Great! This place is amazing. The staff is always friendly and upbeat and are often singing along with the Mexican music they play over the speakers. Their salsa is packed with flavor and is just the right temperature for anyone to enjoy and their chips are great - way better than the Villa. I have to encourage everyone to try the "Burrito Cheesesteak" because it is one of my favorite meals ever. Grilled steak and onions wrapped burrito-style in a flour tortilla covered in their creamy white queso. The thing is massive and comes with either rice or beans. I always get rice and scoop it up with the leftover queso - it's as good as it sounds. It also comes with a little salad of shredded lettuce, guacamole, and fresh diced tomato. I consider myself a guacamole connoisseur of sorts and let me tell you this stuff is great. I had been going to the Villa for 20 years before discovering this place and think more people should check it out. The great service and the ice cold Dos Equis always on tap are great but the food is just plain awesome. read more
